I am startledbunny, and I'm covering for Lukeh while he is off, somewhere in Europe, but more about that in a moment. I make a Monthly Podcast, a kind of mixtape, featuring new music. I also did a small show for Nikki for Sidepodradio, but that is more than enough about me, it's all about the Unordered List, known as Bullet Points.
are getting ready to go see Free Practice today at Spa.
It's amazing that the circuit used to be twice the length it is today. Christine talks about Spa here.
Mark Webber takes you round the track in the simulator here.
It looks as though loads of you attended the Meetup in London on Tuesday. Wish I could have been there.
Leigh put out a post regarding a Go-Karting Benefit event, with Special Guest star being none other than Mark Webber.
As was mentioned in yesterday's daily from James, Joe Saward will be hosting another "An Audience With Joe" in Singapore. Here are the details.
One piece of trivia for you. Felipe Massa has travelled the furthest during the GPs so far, with 2260.856 miles under his belt. Fernando Alonso is next, with 2256.677 miles. They are the only two drivers to finish all the races, but nobody has completed every single lap so far this season. Robert Kubica was the only driver on course to do that until his retirement at Silverstone.
Another couple of points unrelated to Motorsport.
If you're looking for new Podcasts to subscribe or listen to, then I can recommend Dave Cusick's That Sound podcast. He used to be a
DJ on Portland State University's Radio Station KPSU, and released his show as a Podcast, originally called the Post-Modern Rock Show. I've been listening for five years, and my music collection has grown a lot since listening to him.
Here's hoping you all have a good Friday, and an even better Weekend. If you've been visiting the site, and haven't commented yet, then please do so. I did so over a year ago, and haven't stopped since. You'll not meet a nicer bunch of people anywhere on the internet. See you in the comments!
Joe drops in for a surprise chat, before starting his summer break. Conversation includes, respecting the fans, a force of character, flawed characters and what Stefano Domenicali said. Also on the agenda, which drivers are treating the media like idiots, why Michael Schumacher is a mere beginner and who needs lessons in humility.
There's talk of monster accidents, jumping for joy, fraudulent attendance and the cost of covering the sport. Plus listen out for news on an upcoming Singapore meet-up, on how to stay dry when shipwrecked and what's the best drink to discuss Formula 1 too.
Don't miss a minute of this episode of An Aside With Joe.
Another week, another Friday and another way daily from myself to kick off a nice day of the week. Seeing as Formula 1 is on an extended break till Spa in a few weeks, there must be plenty to talk about I'm sure. Did you know yesterday was Lou's 3 year Sidepodiversary with visiting this wonderful site? On the same day she got a new phone as well, a good Thursday for Lou then! But today is Friday and we can look forward to the weekend with the bullet points of awesomeness that follow:
Not too much going on in the world of Formula 1 right now what with everyone seeking the sun and sand around the world. Even our lovely friend Joe Saward can be found taking a well deserved break too! It is Tonio Liuzzu's birthday today though so happy birthday Vimto Liuzzi!! There was a great story that popped up yesterday involving Mark Webber and his assistance of fellow Aussie racer Will Power and friends in his career that I enjoyed finding out about. What a great bloke Webber is! We did get another update yesterday though from Alex Snell's fantastically insightful F1 diary as he follows the championship around the globe. Love the picture of Alex and Tiny Timo!
We can't go a daily without mentioning the Character Cup, of course! With the investigation of the controversial result for the first Semi final showing Rubens Barrichello was the actual winner, Bruno Sena took a big victory over Lewis Hamilton yesterday with the final Semi Final taking place today between the popular Karun Chandhok and the always sweet Heikki Kovaleinen. Do your part readers and make your vote known - Bruno won by just four votes so every vote counts - then let us know in the comments as people are always around to chat and talk.
Now for Bloggers Central, where I'll get some of the bloggers out there a bit of exposure and get that plugging in there! Viva F1 posted a look at the various retirements and results for the new teams in Formula 1 - straight away it caught my eye with that unique graph that explains the data very, very well. Christine blogged another Film Watch entry with her opinions posted on Valentines Day - that's the film, not the frustratingly overexposed day of the year. Finally, RG has gone on holiday to Italy the lucky ....awesome dude that he is, so why not take a glance at his mid-season review of the New Teams Championship he is undertaking? Fascinating to see how the new teams are progressing in his alternative championship. Also, Sakon Yamamoto.
I've had a very musical week this week and I thought I'd quickly share my adventures with you. On Monday I purchased the fabulous new Arcade Fire album 'The Suburbs' which is just a lovely album, with Sprawl II being such a highlight, a gorgeous 80's-esque uplifting gem of a song that makes the album. Later in the week I then moved onto the Belgium rock band Ghinzu and their 2009 album Mirror Mirror which really blew me away. I'm a big fan of these guys what with their Muse similarity but the combination of the tracks Mirror Mirror and The Dream Maker are two highlights for myself. Finally, why not add me as a friend on my brand spanking new last.fm? Go onnn, you can then sign up to the Sidepodcast last.fm group and find the musical habits and loves from the many commentors that flock here!
Well, that's that for another week. I would advise everyone to keep your eyes and ears open around the site we may get another Aside with Joe coming up very soon, woohoo!! If you're following the Formula 1 2010 news in relation to the Xbox 360/PS3/PC game, you may be interested to know the achievements/trophies have been announced for the game. Fancy getting 41 poles and 41 wins from them and rewarded for doing so? Well there's an achievement for that! Also if you have any good HTC Desire app recommendations I'm sure Lou will be happy to listen with her new gadget so please post any in the comments! Just come and join us all anyways for another good day that we can enjoy as one in the comments. In fact, I'm heading there right now!
Hey there! Just a quick Daily Post from me because I am writing this post at the last minute, because I had some friends over to play Kubb, Pétanque and eat pizza - and they only just left!
Here are your links for today:
The FIA have confirmed the date for the Germany 'Team Orders' hearing. Also, apparently Derek Warwick (who was one of the Stewards on Sunday) has told 5Live that he wanted to black flag Schumacher but the video evidence didn't come quick enough. If you ask me, that sounds a little bit like the Monday Morning Quarterback, but still...
Speaking of Schumacher, Joe Saward has written a fantastic post about Schumacher, his move on Barrichello and his motivations for a comeback. A must read!
Adam Cooper has been writing about the Korean Grand Prix, which Bernie Ecclestone insists is happening. All right then!
The folks at Sidepodcast have been very busy writing posts for you. Firstly, re-live their awesome experiences watching the Hungarian Grand Prix from the Renault F1 Factory here and here.
Christine loved the Factory so much, she wanted to move in. Instead, she has to keep dreaming about her ultimate bunker house sadly...
The next round of the Character Cup has been posted. Petrov vs. Barrichello. Should be an easy win for Rubens, eh?
That's all from me then. Sorry if you had any links to plug but I haven't been in the comments tonight.
One more thing - this will be the last Daily I will be able to write until the first Tuesday in September, as I go on holiday next week and won't be around the internet much. Then I have an Aunty visiting and finally the Spa Grand Prix trip.
So if you ever wanted to write a Daily and never had the chance, now is the time! Either sign up on the wiki or let Christine know and it will be sorted out in a jiffy ;)
Joe checks in prior to the German Grand Prix with talk of IndyCar aerodynamics, Tony's plans for more power and deserved penalties for gesticulating drivers. We cover setting the tone of a team and why nobody really wins a manipulated World Championship.
Further discussion ensues with talk of Major League players, F1 survivors and why retaining Timo at Virgin isn't such a bad idea. Joe speculates on the Grand Prix of St Austell, talks old school re-launches and who gave up on their town planning, before we try to find 20,000 paying subscribers for Grand Prix+ magazine.
It's a feature length podcast and the last before two back-to-back races lead into F1's summer holiday. Don't miss out on this episode of Aside with Joe.
Last week, I wrote a post about Robert Kubica and his future at Renault, which was ruined almost instantly by the announcement that he would be staying with the team until the end of 2012. In the post, I was somewhat dismissive of Petrov, not for anything in particular, but perhaps for his anonymity in F1 at the moment.
A few things this weekend have made me rethink, or at least form an opinion, of F1's only Russian driver.

Early morning Petrov has little to say for himself.
On Friday morning, prior to Free Practice at Silverstone, we went driver stalking, and watched as several of those participating climbed into their respective cars and headed towards the circuit. Vitaly Petrov was one of those who we saw, and he left the hotel only moments after Kubica had previously departed (he can't even manage to be first out of bed).
As the above picture demonstrates, there were several fans lining up to see who was going to emerge, blinking into the morning sun, and each time a driver came out you'd hear cries of: "Robert, Robert," or "Tonio, Tonio." When Petrov came out, there was just one lone voice, asking in an unsure tone: "Vitaly?"
Poor chap. I felt really sorry for him. Granted, he didn't sign any autographs or pose for any pictures, but would you want to if no one was asking for them? He wasn't so much grumpy as completely ignored.
Later that day, during the Audience with Joe, Mr Saward was sharing some thoughts on Petrov and his season so far. Whilst there is nothing outstanding to say about the performance on track, the fact that he hasn't been rubbished by Kubica and is at least catching up to his more experienced partners' coat-tails speaks volumes.
Something I hadn't realised until this weekend was that Petrov didn't do the karting thing. Whilst the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso rose through the ranks and gained vital experience at the wheel of a kart, Vitaly was doing nothing of the sort. He had a comparatively late introduction to motor racing than you might expect of the best these days, and spent the formative years of his career in the Russian Lada Cup. No, I haven't heard of it either.
Before coming to F1, he competed in GP2 for several years as well, but he's arguably one of the least experienced racers out there. Keeping his nose clean and steering clear of trouble seems like much more of an achievement knowing that!
Now that Renault scuppered my plans for debating Kubica's future, I can turn my attention to Petrov instead. Will he have a future with them? He doesn't seem to mind being in a team dominated by the other driver, but as he gets more experience, will he stay that way? Would any other teams want him? If not next year, then further into the future?
Hello everyone and welcome to Sunday. We’ve got another very full day of sport ahead of us, the main two events for me being the British Grand Prix, and the final of the World Cup. Now, if you’ve been paying attention to the comments you’ll probably be wondering why I’m looking forward to the football today. Well, to put it simply it marks the end of it all! I’m sure many people will be sad about it, and I’ve seen many people enjoying the atmosphere over in the comments... but it’s been a month, time for a break. However this is the daily, not the football post, which means I should really get on with the bullet points;
It’s been a busy couple of days over at Sidepodcast towers, several people from the comments, Mr and Mrs C included headed over to Joe’s event at Silverstone, and despite trying to drown their ipad in beer, and abusing their camera it sounds like the second British Evening with Joe event went very very well.
The site has also been busy yesterday with two fabulous posts. Firstly Janna has written about her first experience at Silverstone, it’s a must read so please spend some time reading and contributing to the comments. It sounds like a brilliant day! Another must read post that’s been published in the last 24hours highlights another brilliant Mclaren video, this time Jenson and Lewis ‘hit the road’. Personally I’m really enjoying these videos let’s hope they continue to make more!
Christine has also been writing for her own blog too this weekend with 3 brilliant posts for us all to read. She talks about marmots, the next stage of her adventures, and ipads. There’s even new photos on her flickr page too.
That’s it for another daily, apologies for it's lateness and shortness. This time tomorrow I’ll be on my week long holiday. However if you miss me, or have some time to kill I’ve now uploaded last weekend photographs from Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. I’d love to know what you think. Have a lovely day!!
Friday evening, after F1 Free Practice at Silverstone had long been done and dusted, Christine and I made our way to the Plum Park Hotel just East of the circuit, to enjoy a second Audience with Joe. Being set in such a green and leisurely location, the atmosphere couldn't have be more contrasting to Joe's more hectic introductory event in London.

Joe talking in the Plum Park Hotel garden before the evening got underway.
The evening started with talk of Bruno Senna and the situation at Hispania. Joe talked openly about the feeling of sitting on a news scoop and the thought processes he went through before hitting the big button marked 'publish'. He offered a fantastic insight into the world of motor sport journalism, and I recommend anybody who is even remotely interested in becoming part of that world, sign themselves up to the next audience event Joe puts on.
We have been talking to Mr Saward on the Aside Podcast for 18 months and have now witnessed two live forums with the man, yet his ability to surprise, amuse and shock never dwindles. Joe has an anecdote for every question that comes his way, no matter how far back into Formula 1 history the questions delve.
Joining Joe in Silverstone were a circuit designer (who's name I've forgotten), and Formula BMW driver Michael Lewis. Neither took any questions during the course of the evening though. A running order change from previous occasions saw the introduction of two breaks for food and drinks. The provided buffet justified the price increase and it was heartening knowing the food was healthy enough for a current driver like Lewis to tuck in too.
Naoise from Manipe F1 arrived directly from the paddock and a somewhat sunburnt Leigh of The Formula 1 and Motorsports Archive walked all the way from the track to the hotel. The additional breaks allowed for more mingling with other attendees, and we picked up some appreciated feedback about this site and associated podcasts. The revised environment encouraged more audience interaction too, as F1 discussion brought up further questions that could be put to Joe during the next session.

Joe with microphone in hand, taking on all questions.
As ever, time passed all too quickly. It's telling that the two of us were happy to pay for two tickets for an evening in Joe's company, but were not prepared to pay for two tickets for a Friday F1 session just around the corner. To us, one offered significantly more value than the other. It was a shame a smaller contingent of fans made it to Silverstone than we previously saw in London. I felt it was a much better packaged event as a whole, especially with much of the paddock insider news being red hot off the press.
The concept and format Joe has hit upon is so good the Formula One Teams Association saw fit to borrow the model recently, albeit in a somewhat hamstrung fashion. F1 fans have never before had access to such an up close and personal insight into the sport and I very much hope more people take time to come along and take part. Miss it and you miss out.
Why hello my friends! Apologies for not being able to keep up with my normal Friday scheduled daily post but sadly issues out of control mean I am here writing your daily for another bright Saturday! First off, a very big happy birthday to commenter Nick as it's his big day today! Yay! I love it when people have birthdays in my daily's! I'm sure Alison will be providing the cake and candles to celebrate (as well as a few drinks I'm sure) so happy birthday Nick! Formula 1 returns to it's home this weekend so let's see what homely bullet points we can throw out to entertain you lovely people:
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that Silverstone is the playground for the next round of Formula 1 action this weekend! Yay Silverstone! Drivers still seem a bit mixed about the new section that occurs during the infield but I suppose we'll find out just how good it will be. Of course, we could be at Donington this weekend but we all know how that went. Anyways qualifying does indeed take place later on today so make sure you check the dates and times here at Sidepodcast and join the comments when qualifying occurs later today! I've no idea who is going to be getting pole but it's almost definitely going to be Rubens Barrichello. In other news, my prediction skills are almost as good as Luca Badoer.
Just seven days ago I found myself touring the grounds of Goodwood House with Lou as we enjoyed ourselves to a huge degree being part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Now I know it's been mentioned quite a lot this week what with the quite excellent occurence of the Sidepodcast banner but I finally got round to writing up my thoughts, feelings and memories of this fantastic experience. What a couple of days! If you've never been to Goodwood then you must go in 2011 - that's a command, soldier!
What's all this nonsense then with Bruno Senna, eh? What a complete joke! I know this was coered in yesterday's daily but I'm still very disappointed at what occured with HRT. Yamamatontomtomatotoyotamatosato, or Mr Saxon, seemed quite disappointing in practise although what can you do with that car I suppose, but as Bruno is my newest bestest friend then I have no reason but to be upset at this stupid news to be quite honest. What awful timing! What an unjoyful act! It's been rumoured that Bruno will get his seat back after this weekend though. He'd better or some fist shakes may commence at HRT. *shakes fist anyways at them*
And now for some very quick lovely links to share with you peoples. First off, how very sweet is this picture from Rubens' children? They seem the sweetest kids ever! I also noticed this picture on Twitter earlier today I loved featuring Hill, Stewart and Oliver back in the day, just a nice little photo and glimpse of a different time. Finally for something completely different. If you're Monkey Island mad like myself then you may like to know that Monkey Island 2 is now available all done up and modernised for your entertainment for the iPad, iPhone and iPod! Now I'm a massive fan of the series and these games do a wonderful job bringing them to 2010 whilst keeping it true to it's original form and a must for those that love the games!
That seems about right. Kimi Raikkonen finds himself rallying again this weekend in the country of Bulgaria so the best of luck with explaining this mishap. I'm sure he'll do fine really, go Kimi! Of course yesterday evening several commenters, including our loved hosts, were spending their time as I write this at an evening with Joe Saward listening to his always-wise responses and definitely enjoying themselves I'm sure. Not that I'm jealous I'm not there, of course, ahem. Anyways, I'm sure we can expect something back from this meet-up and plenty of fantastic info and hopefully a post about it! Nevertheless I hope you guys enjoy qualifying today and have a lovely weekend!
Joe Saward is hosting a second Audience with Joe event in the UK this coming Friday, 9 July. This time around the venue is the Plum Park Hotel near Silverstone, an ideal location for anyone at a loose end after attending F1 Free Practice earlier in the day.
Credit: F1 Lou
Taking questions from the floor, Joe Saward at his inaugural meet and greet.
Both Christine and I are planning to be there, but it should be noted that unlike last time we are not intending to record the event for a future podcast. We have had lots of people getting in touch saying they may not able to make the event, but are looking forward to listening in afterwards. That is not going to be possible.
If you'd like the inside line on what's happening in F1 right now, from Joe or any special guests he might be planning to bring along, you must book tickets and be there on the day. We haven't ever said the evening would be recorded, but given the number of people still asking about it, we just wanted to make sure nobody ends up disappointed.
It's not too late to book tickets, they cost £45 per person and that price includes a buffet dinner. Previous events have been a roaring success, and we highly recommend any F1 fan in the area on Friday, consider coming along to meet Joe and other likeminded individuals. As yet we've not heard from anyone who has come home disappointed.
If you're interested in finding out more, head on over to Joe's site. Specific venue details can be found on the hotel's web site and you can listen past conversations with Joe in the podcast archive.
Please do let us know in the comments if you're planning on attending and if you've bought your tickets, we hope to see you there.
