People Who Listen to Sidepodcast, Also Listen To...

Published

By Mr. C.

Not so long ago we discovered the online music recommendation site last.fm had introduced the ability to create "groups", or areas on the site for like minded individuals to share musical tastes and ideas.

Top Weekly Tracks

Given that we're prone to signing up to anything with a login button, we created a Sidepodcast Music Group, admittedly with no real clue as to what use it might serve.

Quickly however, this proved to be something of a special idea. In essence, anyone with a last.fm account can join the group which allows you to take part in audio related discussions and to see what other Sidepodcast listeners are enjoying at any particular moment in time.

That's all well and good, but the really cool feature the group offers is that any songs you listen to get added to the weekly Sidepodchart - calculated every Sunday, as all good music charts should be. Having a chart gives us a good idea of what tracks people who listen and contribute to the show also consume, as well as highlighting those who actually have some taste when it comes to music.

There are currently 18 members in the group, including ourselves, and after about three weeks The Beatles top the chart which also features, Beck, Kings of Leon and The Ting Tings. Wonderful stuff but clearly none of those are our doing.

If you're interested in seeing what the F1 community listens to, check out last.fm/group/sidepodcast, and why not sign up while you're there?

Audio preview

With very little news to cover this week, Sidepodcast takes it's annual trip down the grid to predict the futures of the 2008 drivers.

Intro

I'm having the worst week of my whole entire life, no exaggeration or drama. Look forward to an optimistic show!

Good Week / Bad Week

Trulli's depression is actually a good week for Ferrari, whilst Jerez and Singapore are having troubles.

News and Views

Super Aguri have delayed their launch, we discuss why and what effect this is having on the drivers. The "Racing Against Racism" campaign is gaining momentum, but do we sign up to it? And what exactly are we signing up to? Also, Ron Dennis is having some personal troubles and we justify why this is news.

Class of 2008

A rundown of the 2008 Entry List with driver statistics (Krypton Factor stylee) and a word or two on what we think.

On The Phones

Just the one voicemail this week - part of his "on the phones" initiative. We talk about Nigel Stepney and his dignified silence - that's the silence where he keeps talking about what happened.

Housekeeping

I'm not email bankrupt just yet, so keep trying. We talk about some of the brilliant emails we got this week, and how they link to the Facebook group. Train rides, counting coins, Honda being half and half, and DarrenHeath.com. Join in the fun on the group, or email me at christine [@] sidepodcast.com.

Face to Face

You may have already heard about this from Episode 49, or you may have found your way there by yourself, but today I'm here to promote the Facebook group.

A while back, I had an email from Paul Gibson who suggested: "Why don't you set up a Facebook group."

Ten minutes later, I mailed him back: "Done. Enjoy."

This is what we're like here at Sidepodcast Towers. Tell us what you want to see, or something you think we should be trying and we will do it. I'm not talking bungy jumping or anything like that, though, so don't get any ideas.

Anyway, the group.

I didn't really know what the point of a Facebook group was before, but every day I'm starting to see how fun it can be and what cool things we can do:

  • Share photos
  • Upload videos
  • Submit links
  • Discuss stuff
  • Post on the wall

I've got to be honest and say the wall is my favourite because we get comments like this:

Sidepodcast's Facebook Wall

I'm assuming that being the crack cocaine of something is a good thing? Or is it not? I'm going to take it as a compliment.

At the moment we're discussing the merits of Honda's livery and how it may or may not be growing on us, and I'm posting links about Max Mosley and Rubens Barrichello.

If you're a Facebook user and you want yet another place to catch up with Sidepodcast and other like-minded individuals, please sign up to be a member of the group. We welcome one and all.
