Ever Dream of Being a Radio DJ?

Published

By Christine Blachford

A few weeks ago, RG came up with the idea of Sidepodradio in the comments. It was mentioned in jest, and some of the Sidepodcommunity came up with shows they'd like to do, tailored to their interests. Fast forward to now, and Sidepodradio is real, it's happening and we want you to be a part of it.

Not Another Sidepod... Show

Yes, sorry about that. Not content with providing more content than it is feasible to listen to, we are now going to go for an entire 12 hours on Sunday 2nd August. From 12pm UK time to midnight, we will be broadcasting various shows in half hour slots, and there will be plenty to listen to. The exact mechanics of the process are yet to be decided, but as a listener, all you have to do is show up to the Live Comments on Sunday and get listening.

Put That Hairbrush Away

Now, for the more adventurous out there, we need you. No longer do you have to stand in front of the mirror with a hairbrush, there are 24 half hour slots to fill and we want you to host them. The wiki is already filling up with great content, but there is still plenty of space for more. Have an idea for a radio show that you've always wanted to broadcast? Now is your chance. It doesn't even have to be specifically about F1. We're going for a Parade Lap feel, where F1 is always there, but doesn't have to be on the tip of our tongue.

The options are limitless as well. You can broadcast live with us on the day, or you can submit a pre-recorded show. You can take callers, play music, discuss whatever topics are on your mind. You can be on air with Mr C and myself, or you can fly solo. If you want technical help or advice, ask away.

A Whole Half Hour

Say you don't want to commit to an entire show (and I'll be disappointed if you don't), there's space for you as well. Why not leave us a voicemail with a smooth transition that we can play between shows? Ever wanted to be like the callers on radio that say: "Every time I'm on the interwebs, I listen to Sidepodradio." Now you can. Call us on 0121 28 87225, and leave a quick thought for us to play.

Sidepodcast - Hobby Turned Radio Station

Calling it radio is perhaps a little misleading because we  aren't suddenly going to be hitting the FM airwaves or anything like that. Radio is expensive, the internet is less so. However, broadcasting for 12 hours will cost us a little more, something in the region of £120. We are therefore asking for donations, however big or small, to put towards the cause. There's a paypal donate button on the right hand side of the homepage. If we go over our total, the rest of the money will go to an as yet undecided charity.

So, there you have it. That's what we know so far, and in our usual chaotic and spontaneous fashion, it will all come together at the last minute. However, if you have any questions or thoughts, leave them in the comments or email me: christine at sidepodcast dot com.

Live: Indoors on a Day Like Today?

Published

By Christine Blachford

Actually, we already did the outdoor thing, and it was hot and sunny and all things beautiful. Now it's time to hole up in the Sidepodbunker and prepare ourselves for another live streaming of the Debrief. What could possibly go wrong?

With just a small amount of news to catchup on, including those troublesome 2010 entries, we're hosting a bumper feedback show this week, with emails and voicemails galore. Please keep them coming, as I love every single one.

We're hoping to be ready for 7pm BST, but I think the sun may have fried our brains a little, and we might be running behind schedule. Fingers crossed though. See you soon!

And so we come to the last day in May. At least I think it is. Yesterday, I managed to head up my daily post with the wrong date and confuse everyone in the process. Fingers crossed I am more factually correct today. Here are some of the things we're talking about today:

  • It's Debrief day today, and we'll be live streaming a show later in the evening. We're looking for all kinds of feedback for this show, be it voicemails, emails, or just something you want to share with us. The number is 0121 28 87225, or 0121 28 TRACK. Search on Skype for Sidepodcast, or send your emails to christine@sidepodcast.com. You know you want to, and it would make my day.
  • Lukeh did some amazing work designing a car for Sidepodcast on Forza 2 on the X-Box. He's got some pictures of the initial design and then some of the car in action. Check them out and praise him because you're looking at hours worth of effort.
  • We tuned in to the F2 race yesterday and it wasn't all that bad. We're pretty impressed with the site, though, as the live stream was available right next to the live timing. I had great fun trying to pronounce all the names of the drivers, and decided that Brundle was going to get my support.

We're looking forward to the debrief stream later, but there's plenty of sunshine hours to be enjoyed before that. If we're not out, soaking up some rays, then I'll see you in the comments.

A catchup with all that's happened since the Brazilian showdown, this episode of the Debrief takes in yet more Red Bull misfortune, that Toro Rosso shoot-out and what is going on in France.

Intro

We got a bit carried away with Sidepodpanel, but F1 Debrief is back!

Good Week / Bad Week

Good week for Martin Brundle who has a job, and Sebastien Loeb who thinks he could have had one if he wanted. Bad week for the Red Bulletin and the current points system.

News and Views

We look at Red Bull news which features the constant bad luck of Mark Webber. Now with a broken leg, he's going to miss out on some serious winter testing, but how much will that harm him? We also cover Force India news and ponder their McLaren B team status. Then it's time to think about what we saw in Barcelona testing, and finally take a look at what havoc Bernie is creating on the calendar now.

Feedback

One full voicemail with some end of season round ups to follow, and a half a voicemail as it's actually led on to a much better idea. There's also a couple of Facebook messages and a few emails as well.

Housekeeping

There's a new commenting feature to test out for us, some daily posts to try and create some order, and as ever, we want your feedback.

Episode 66 - The Cars are Gonna be a Little Bit Faster than the People

Published

Audio preview

The world of Formula 1 took a back seat this weekend as Le Mans took over, but Sidepodcast keeps it F1 related... for the most part.

Intro

Oh, wait, this bit is about Le Mans.

Good Week / Bad Week

Albert Park appears to have a bright future, but we're curious on the compromise, Force India are struggling with a former driver, Toro Rosso may have a new investor - but are they ready, and the track in Montreal is set for a change.

News and Views

If it wasn't for testing this week, the news would literally be just about tyre compounds. Thankfully, there were three days in Barcelona to give us something to discuss - Davidson at Honda, the Toro Rosso still being slow, Heidfeld getting some extra track time, and Ferrari's running out of fuel.

Feedback

Jordan leaves us a voicemail plugging his favourite F1 news source, and SidepodcastFan emails his in. Call us with your F1 site suggestions. We run down some Facebook stats, discussions and photos. Lou saw a Renault close up, F1 Wolf has some great photos, and we have some unclaimed ones on drop.io.

Housekeeping

Okay, yea, this bit is about Le Mans as well.
