It is supposedly the shortest day of the year today, which means that after today, the evenings will be getting lighter again. This is good as seeing the darkness come in before 4pm each day is not much fun at all! It also means we are really into Christmas, and the F1 news should be slowing down. Good stuff! Meanwhile, here is what we're talking about today:

  • It was the Sidepodcast Christmas Party last night where we handed out a bunch of awards for good and bad performance throughout the year, drank some wine, pulled some crackers and sang a Christmas Carol. Check out the replay which should be available soonish, and the edited show will be along later.
  • Our displaced F1 Debrief that was recorded live on Saturday was edited yesterday, so you can listen to that here. We discuss all manner of things, including the new teams and their signings, plus Michael Schumacher and his future. I remember the days when retirement was retirement!
  • Guest writer, (or should that be guest artist?) Stuart Taylor shared a great season review with us in the form of some illustrations. I am jealous of anyone who can draw like that and particularly like the depiction of Bernie Ecclestone. Head on over and have a look, and why not rate the post?

That'll do it for now. It's Monday again, but the holidays are drawing near, if you are not in them already. Let us know what you're up to and I'll see you in the comments.

The Twelve Days of F1 Christmas Revisited

Last year, we debuted the sing-a-long Christmas Carol in the shape of The 12 Days of F1 Christmas. It featured nine willing volunteers, 12 lines of song, and quite a lot of laughing. It was chaos, the singing was questionable, but it was great fun, and we want to recreate that tonight.

As mentioned a couple of times across various Sidepodmedia, we're attempting our second annual live streaming party tonight, in which there will be some singing, and you will be getting involved.

We're posting this reminder of the original Sidepodchristmas Carol because firstly, you can never hear it too many times, and secondly, we know it's going to be hard to beat it and want to celebrate how good it was in 2008.

The lyrics are only slightly out of date, some of them are still quite relevant:

  • Twelve years of gridwalks
  • Eleven points for Rubens
  • Ten Kimi fast laps
  • Nine dromes from Tilke
  • Eight points positions
  • Seven different winners
  • Six wet races
  • Five Massa spins
  • Four Heidfeld podiums
  • Three maiden winners
  • Two teams a-leavin'
  • And a last corner Championship win!

Stay tuned for more information on the party, and I hope you can join us as we live stream, consume some wine, and eat mince pies. Should be a great night. Enjoy!

Sunday has dawned and there is mass confusion at Sidepodcast Towers as we have already done one podcast this weekend. We had to host an impromptu F1 Debrief yesterday due to the sheer volume of news that has come in since our last podcast. That means tonight we can concentrate solely on the Sidepoddie Awards show, as we had originally intended. Here's some info on what is in store tonight:

  • The party will get underway about 8pm GMT, with a live thread opening shortly before that. I hope you've RSVP'ed to let us know if you're planning on attending, and don't forget you'll need food and drink as sustenance as the party gets underway.
  • We will probably play a party tune or two, so get your requests in early, and don't forget we will be looking for volunteers to join in the Sidepodchristmas Carol. The lyrics have been narrowed down to one set on the wiki, and we'll be assigning one line at a time to as many willing voices as we can get. Familiarise yourself with it, because we'll be calling you up later.
  • Be prepared to get clapping as we hand out the 2009 Sidepoddie Awards to various deserving Formula 1 personnel. As per usual, we'll be expecting an A list attendance, but if the last few years are anything to go by, it'll just be Mr C and myself. Oh well. Get prepared, put up some fairy lights and gather the mince pies, because the party is ready to get going.

That should do it for now. I'm disappointed I have to wait an entire day for the party now, but it'll be here before we know it and until then I'll see you in the comments.

Wrapping up the year the best way we know how, with a collection of bizarre and not altogether meaningful awards from Sidepodcast. We also discuss the latest addition to the Sidepodtour, and there's a special Christmas treat for those listening to the end of the show.

Intro

It's a Sidepodparty - Drink!

Good Week / Bad Week

We turn the tables on our listeners, and find out why it's a good week for both Lou and R.G, but not so good for Dank and Scott.

Sidepoddies

The Sidepoddie Awards enter their second year, and become an annual tradition at Sidepodcast Towers, with a packed schedule of Best Accessory, Best Animal, and the Juan Pablo Montoya Award for Worst Injury Outside of a Formula 1 Car. The nominees and winners are about as good as the titles themselves.

Housekeeping

We took the next step of the Sidepodtour and turned up to the Williams Headquarters in Grove. Unfortunately there was no tour of the engineering works itself, but a simple peek at the Grand Prix Collection and Trophy room. Nevertheless, there was plenty to see and learn, with an impromptu visit from Sir Frank himself, an opportunity to shop, and a brand new love interest.

Live: There Ain't No Party, Like a Sidepodparty

The idea for a Sidepodparty was dreamt up in the comments, and was originally just going to be a few people hanging out on the Live Commenting Live... Thing, and maybe playing a few games and chatting about Christmas. Instead, we have taken over the idea, and turned it into the Sidepodcast Christmas Party. We're live streaming the whole thing, and somewhere in the middle of pulling crackers and singing carols, we'll be recording a show. The Sidepoddie Awards are now an annual tradition (here's last year's fun and games) and no expense has been spared on the 2008 lineup.

Talking of singing carols, Mr Christine dreamt up the idea of a live rendition of the "12 Days of Christmas" Formula 1 style. All the information you need is in the Wiki, and we'll obviously talk about it when the times comes. Never fear, though, it will be chaos.

We'll be live shortly, and would love to see you in the comments. Forevermore, people will look back and recall where they were the day of the inaugural Sidepodparty.
