Welcome to Wednesday! It's the last day of March already, and I can't quite believe it. Still, there's no time to relax as F1 is moving straight on from Australia to Malaysia, and back to back racing means busy, busy times! Here are a couple of things we're talking about:

  • Renault have given a fabulous insight into the goings on back at the factory as the team prepare for the next race. They're talking about new updates to the car and their hopes for improved downforce. It looks like this is the first part of several posts, which is great news.
  • Manipe has another take on the boring/non-boring race debate, which is about tyres and the requirement for stopping to change compounds. It's an interesting idea, but my one concern is that the racing has been all about tyres in 2010, so if you take that out of the equation, what are you left with?
  • The McLaren debate is another that is rumbling on - two sides of the garage and whether they get on or not. James Allen had a balanced look at both sides of the argument, and I covered it a little in F1 Minute as well.
  • Also, this is a rather fabulous photo for F1 Big Picture to celebrate a moment in history of the Malaysian GP. Finally, if you haven't seen it already, a quick reminder of how we cover the build up to each race in photos.

That should do it for now. I'm still having a rather stressful week, but I'm just grateful it's a four day weekend soon. I will see you in the comments.

Saturday is here and the weekend has begun. We've got a week off from racing but must try and prepare for the back to back that is coming up starting with Australia next weekend. However, that is the future and now is now, and here are some things we're talking about:

  • It was definitely Franck Friday yesterday, as the Frenchman was confirmed at a new team for Superleague Formula. Mr C and I have barely had anything but scorn for this formula in the past but now it's the best thing since forever. They do have online broadcasting though, and the season is only 12 races long, which makes me very happy.
  • Given the happy news that we have another series to follow, I dutifully put all the SL events into our fabulous calendar. It's been a while since I gave the calendar a plug, so now is a good time. Did you know we do a brilliant calendar? So far, in non-F1 events, it covers rallying, the major Le Mans events and now Superleague. If there's anything missing that you'd like to see in there, please let me know, and I'll try and add it.
  • I'll also plug F1 Minute today, although it doesn't really need it right now. Apple made the odd decision to feature it on the iTunes homepage and in their newsletter, meaning lots and lots of new people are tuning in. Yesterday's minute focused on the FIA's attempts to tighten up the championship, whilst F1 Big Picture is all about Virgin Racing. Don't forget Tweets of the Week as well. There should be another one of those along tomorrow.

That should do it for now. We're working on some fun blog posts today, so keep your eyes peeled later on. I'll see you in the comments.

Saturday has dawned, bright and sunny. Well, maybe. I haven't seen the weather yet, but let us know what it's doing in your neck of the woods! There's testing ahead of us next week in Jerez but it's not looking good weather wise, so we need to brush up on our forecasting skills. Meanwhile, here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • Some comments yesterday picked up on pictures posted in the latest edition of Racecar Engineering, that have been featured on a US F1 fan blog. They give a fascinating insight into what goes on inside the car, despite the fact that it looks like the driver's leg is broken in a really uncomfortable way. It's nice to see technical drawings that don't scare people like me away.
  • We did a bit of a catch up on F1 Big Picture yesterday, and posted this cute little picture of Nick Heidfeld. With his new job at Mercedes, it was about time we featured a Nick pic, and I have to say, seeing the poor guy in a big field all by himself makes me feel compassion for him. Bless Nick.
  • Sadly, it seems that the Only One Timo Glock blog curated by RG has had to shut its doors. This is bad news, of course, but no one can say that RG doesn't have his priorities in the right place. He still has the Northern Waffler blog to, er, waffle on, and as ever, our doors are always open to any guest posts about Mr Glock or otherwise. Keep it up, RG.

That should do it for now. Let us know what you're up to with your weekend and as ever, I will see you in the comments.

Ah-ha, the end of the week at last, and another weekend just around the corner. It's been a nice slow end to the week in terms of F1 news, but I have a feeling (and Joe said) it's all going to start kicking off again next week. Meanwhile, here's what we're focusing on instead:

  • We started turning our attention towards the Sidepodparty yesterday, and came up with the Christmas Carol that will replace the 12 days of Christmas. Last year, during the party, we all took turns to sing an F1 themed 12 days, and this time it's all about Jingle Bells. Naturally, we've set up a wiki page for alternative lyrics and volunteer voices.
  • Yesterday's Thursday Thoughts was a good one, taking a closer look at the possibility of a group launch by FOTA rather than the individual team launches we know and love. We had some great answers from Lukeh, Jackie, Pat, Sean and Lady Snowcat. Mr C said he was writing one, but I haven't seen it yet, so it will have to be a Friday thought instead.
  • Finally, we did a bit of an F1 Minute catchup yesterday, posting two of everything. There are two delicious shows about Donington and FOTA, whilst the Big Picture took a slight turn away from normal programming to feature DTM cars and politicians.

That's all for now, I think. As ever, let us know what you're up to over the weekend and if you have anything exciting planned. Watch out for the Friday Fun game appearing later in the morning, and I will see you in the comments.

Here we are then, another Monday is upon us. Don't forget that if you would like the chance to write a daily post at some point in the future, then the option is there! I am taking volunteers for a series of guest written daily posts, and it's a good excuse to plug your own blog, or links that you like. We've had a great response so far, but there's always room for more.

  • It seemed to be the weekend for F1 visiting NASCAR as both Vettel and Kovi attended the race. Vettel was particularly outspoken about things F1 could learn from the sport, highlighting the spectacle that fans get, both visiting and on TV.
  • F1 Wolf has some rather stunning and you might say amusing photos of the Macau Grand Prix, which didn't exactly get off to a great start at all. Mr C and I both looked at the video of the start and wondered if David Coulthard had got in the car by mistake. Oops, sorry DC.
  • In Sidepodscience news, the Large Hadron Collider was relaunched on Friday and is apparently doing a lot better than it did first time round, in terms of research and stuff. Clearly I don't know what I'm talking about, but I know it hasn't killed us all. We did have quite a bad live show last night though... Hmm. Anyway, the original and best Big Picture has some great photos of the LHC if you haven't seen them already.

That's all for now. After two days off last week, I'm back at work and probably faced with piles of paperwork to sort through. Nevertheless I will see you in the comments.

All eyes are still on Singapore, as the racing gets underway today. It's been an interesting weekend so far, with plenty to talk about, so hopefully there is more to come. Here are some of the things we've been discussing recently:

  • It was a bit of a weird day in the paddock yesterday, as the garages seemed to be infiltrated by musicians. We blogged about the F1 Rocks crew and their attempts at a pit stop, and the Black Eyed Peas were also featured on the F1 Big Picture.
  • The fuel weights revealed some intriguing things, such as Liuzzi's very light fuel load, and the fact that Vettel seemed to be running low on fuel for pole position. Barrichello's incident has certainly stirred things up considerably!
  • If you are at a loose end before the race gets underway, what with there being no Parade Lap this week and everything, why not check out Nick's mammoth preview posts? The Singapore Build Up has actually been split into three separate posts, but is a great run through how all the teams are stacking up ahead of the Grand Prix.

That'll do it for now. We'll be along later with more live threads for the race, and for the F1 Debrief recording this evening. I'll see you in the comments.

It is Independence Day today, although Mr C and I also recognise it as the day Will Smith helps save us from aliens. Bruce has got the meteorites covered and Will knows what he's doing with those UFOs, what could go wrong? Anyway, here are some of the things we're talking about:

  • What's going on with Alan Donnelly then? The story is that Virgin are moving their sponsorship, which is fair enough. Their relationship with Brawn has been dwindling almost since the first race. So, what does this Donnelly fella have to do with it?
  • Over on the F1 Big Pic, we took the challenge of covering the Valencia story. What were the chances of finding a decent pic of that instantly forgettable race? I am mightily disappointed the green building didn't make the pic, but we should be able to see more of that if there is less seating around.
  • Finally, Alianora has written a great post about her daily process of finding out what's going on in the world of F1, detailing which sites she visits and in which order. Would love to hear other people's routines as well.

That'll do it for now. It's Goodwood Saturday, so we'll still be keeping an ear and eye out for any pics or tweets cropping up. As always, I'll see you in the comments.

Heading into the weekend now, apparently it's David Beckham's birthday today. Good to know, hey, fact fans? Anyway, it seems to be a quiet time in F1 at the moment, as teams have a rest before Spain, and digest the budget cap information. Here are some of the things we're talking about at the moment:

  • Coulthard can concentrate on his career as a broadcaster now, as Hartley has received the paperwork that will allow him to take on the third driver role at Red Bull. Hands up who's disappointed we didn't get to see DC back in the car if only for a short time?
  • The Boston Big Picture (inspiration behind F1 Minute's daily big pic) had an F1 feature yesterday. 31 pictures take a trip back over the last few races and look at some stunning shots. It's good to see that we featured a couple in our big pic as well, meaning that our homage is working out perfectly.
  • Finally, if you're craving some racing this weekend, Pat has written up a good guide to what you can look out for over the next couple of days. We're looking at A1GP, Touring Cars, and yes, NASCAR. Pat writes this up frequently, so it's always worth keeping an eye out if you're looking for more wheels to watch.

That'll do it for now. Let us know if you're up to anything exciting this weekend, and equally, let us know if you're up to anything not exciting. Yesterday's daily post saw comments about custard, so it's fair to say that anything goes. I'll see you in the comments.

Things really should be all about the racing right now, but there are certain elements of the politics of F1 still hanging over our shoulders. The Donington Park saga still rumbles on but there is plenty more to talk about:

  • McLaren have apparently offered the FIA a written apology. Whitmarsh confirms this is true but won't say anymore about what was inside the letter, so the question is, what kind of an effect are they hoping this will have? Will their sentencing (that seems like the appropriate word?) be more leniant because they've said sorry again?
  • It's been a while since I've plugged the F1 Big Picture, and it's a pretty good one of Piquet at the moment. This is topical because anyone who is anyone is making bets on how long the youngster will last. His performance hasn't been up to scratch, and surely there's a driver snapping at his heels for the opportunity.
  • The SofaF1 Pole Poll continues, and if you're already taking part (or if you want to have a go), you've got until qualifying starts to make your selections. I don't know how I got roped into this, considering how much I dislike making predictions, but it's great fun - even if Mr C is beating me. I don't quite know exactly how the scoring works, but you get points based on whether you select the correct pole sitter and for your guesswork on the top eight points finishers as well. Good luck!

That'll do it for now. It's not long until qualifying gets underway, although thankfully for us in the UK, it's on at a more reasonable time of day. There will be many threads popping up throughout the day, so no doubt I'll see you in the comments.

Always Look at the Bigger Picture

By Mr. C.

If you'll excuse a bit of shameless self promotion, I just wanted to quickly plug a new feature we're trialling on F1 Minute this week.

Nico Rosberg

Christine and I are huge, huge fans of The Big Picture from boston.com. The site is promoted in the comments frequently, and it originally came to our attention after Alex pointed out their coverage of The Singapore Grand Prix.

If we have one complaint though, it is that Formula One doesn't get nearly enough of a look in, and even with the slightly oddball 2009 chassis designs and liveries, there's still some gorgeous F1 images to be found. We're therefore proposing to address this problem with our very own F1 related homage to The Big Picture over on f1minute.com.

We can't claim this is the most original idea we've ever come up with, but the plan is to add a new photograph each and every weekday, around the same time as the audio podcast goes up. Ideally the content will be editorially relevant, but on a quiet news day that may not be possible. Much like the minute we're hoping this can become a historical resource we can draw upon in the future.

From a technical standpoint, we may struggle with the amount of bandwidth these images have the potential to consume, and we may be biting off more work than we can chew in terms of additional workload, but until we try, we'll never know.

Yesterday's comments offered some positive feedback, but if you have any thoughts, for or against the idea, please do let us know.

Still haven't found what you're looking for? The full page of contents contains detailed links for the whole site.
