Welcome to F1Minute - Michael Schumacher retires from Formula One a second time.

Seven times world champion Michael Schumacher has revealed his plans to retire from Formula One at the end of this year, after a three year comeback with Mercedes. Once the news emerged that Lewis Hamilton was to join the German team for 2013, it was only a matter of time before Schumacher had to announce his intentions.

Speaking to the media, he said: “During the past month, I was not sure if I still had the motivation and energy which is necessary to go on. It’s not my style to do something that I’m not 100% feeling.” He also added: “Although I am still able and capable to compete with the best drivers that are around, at some point it is good to say goodbye - and that is what I am doing this season. This time it might even be forever.”

He also pointed out there were other options for him to stay and drive in F1, but he turned them down, and has yet to decide what his future plans are.
