Mercedes had another troublesome day testing, as Lewis Hamilton made his debut for the German team on the second day in Jerez. He managed to complete 15 laps overall before a brake failure saw him sailing off track and into the barrier. He was out of the car unharmed, but for the second day in a row, the team looked into getting the car running again but opted to halt their test early.

Meanwhile, Romain Grosjean put in the fastest time overall, about seven tenths of a second above second place Paul di Resta. Grosjean had been on top for much of the day and beat his own time with the softer tyres bolted on in the afternoon.

Along with Mercedes and their ongoing troubles, newly confirmed Luiz Razia had an engine problem that stopped his time in the Marussia in the morning, and Nico Hülkenberg also ran out of fuel at one point. Also, Force India ran James Rossiter, who hasn’t been in an F1 car since he tested for Super Aguri way back in 2008.
