Sidepodcast Hangout Plus - All day, Christmas day

A very merry Christmas to each and every one!

Published by Christine Blachford

It's Christmas! And to celebrate, here's a happy hangout that will stay open all day, so that we can discuss presents, Christmas dinner, that oh-so-terrible-but-brilliant festive television and anything else that you have in mind. There will be a special event for the fabulous Doctor Who episode, but apart from that, feel free to share whatever part of your day you want to with us. We'll be around, so stop in and say hello. A Merry Christmas to all!

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:02:35

    merry christmas y'all!

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:03:34

our usual entertainments manager has phoned in sick on this most festive of occasions, so i've been drafted in at short notice, beer in hand, to say "hello" :)

  • Adam Mills (@AdamMillsF1) 25/12/2012 at 00:06:15

Hello Mr C and a very Merry Christmas to you too! What's your festive beer of choice today?

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:07:45

Hello Mr C and a very Merry Christmas to you too! What's your festive beer of choice today?

    hey chappie!

a had guinness earlier, but didn't put enough in the fridge, so have reverted to a cider who's name i've forgotten, but which came in a light brown box :)

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:08:28

i've no idea if mixing stout and cider is recommended, but i'll go with it.

  • Adam Mills (@AdamMillsF1) 25/12/2012 at 00:09:08

Ah, you'll ben fine, best to top it off with a wee festive dram though.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:10:14

Ah, you'll ben fine, best to top it off with a wee festive dram though.

i may have an issue procuring such an item. bad planning :(

    what are you having?

  • Adam Mills (@AdamMillsF1) 25/12/2012 at 00:12:17

Just had a couple of whiskies and finished the wrapping so heading to bed. Just had to post the picture of a badger in a santa hat. ....as you do.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:12:35

Just had a couple of whiskies and finished the wrapping so heading to bed. Just had to post the picture of a badger in a santa hat. ....as you do.

we need a link to that :)

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:14:09

Badger in a Santa hat? O.o

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:14:50

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:18:35

the traditional autosport festive quiz. it's kinda mandatory to at least have a go, seeing as they make geoff stay up until midnight to post it!

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:20:12

Surely it auto posts. Even wordpress can do that

if it does, then it auto-tweets and auto-google-pluses too:

    i'll ask :)

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:20:21

You say that, BBC seem to have botched their 100 Things We Didn't Know Last Year publication earlier...

  • Amy 25/12/2012 at 00:21:50

    Merry Christmas all!

I have just got back from my Christmas run to the smell of my roast. Great idea, putting it in the oven before I left. House smells gooooood.

  • Adam Mills (@AdamMillsF1) 25/12/2012 at 00:22:34

Ecky thump, I swear it wasn't that hard last year...

You may have something you can sell there. Running to cooking food

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:24:07

    Merry Christmas all!

    and you ms amy.

it's not quite the same league, but i hope christine is well enough to cook some festive(ish) nachos later :)

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:27:14

Ecky thump, I swear it wasn't that hard last year...

    i don't know any!

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:27:54

    i don't know any!

Exactly!! I'm sure I had at least 5 "I know that" certs to get me started last year... :/

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:28:45

IndyCar: How many ex-F1 drivers started an IndyCar round in 2012? 6, 7, or 8?

    surely answer is "rubens barichello"?

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:29:16

...Justin Wilson, Takuma Sato... uh... uh....

  • Ryan 25/12/2012 at 00:29:55

    Merry Christmas people.

    surely answer is "rubens barichello"?

Takuma Sato, how can you forget the legend that is Takuma Sato. And that other guy, and the other one, and him, you know.

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:30:07

    Happy Christmas.

I'd be happier if I didn't feel so.. odd, and no it wasn't the drink, I stopped and had tea. :) I blame last night, unable to sleep.. I just had some cherry pie which was very nice.

  • Matt G 25/12/2012 at 00:30:50

    Merry Xmas Sidepodders :D

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:31:01

Takuma Sato, how can you forget the legend that is Takuma Sato. And that other guy, and the other one, and him, you know.

    oooooooh yeah!

the traditional autosport festive quiz. it's kinda mandatory to at least have a go, seeing as they make geoff stay up until midnight to post it!

That's difficult every year. Might have a bash at that tomorrow afternoon. :)

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:31:53

I just got slaughtered by that quiz. I used to know all about the junior formulae and rallying etc and now I know nothing

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:32:12

I just had some cherry pie which was very nice.

doh, everyone has better food than me.

    *runs to cupboard*

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:33:07

I've got pringles and hot choc...

  • Ryan 25/12/2012 at 00:34:00

doh, everyone has better food than me.

All the 'good' food I want is under wrapping paper. #needschocolate

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:35:08

    Got a miserable 21 out of 50

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:36:00

IndyCar: How many ex-F1 drivers started an IndyCar round in 2012? 6, 7, or 8?

    I've got 5.

Barrichello, Sato, Wilson, Bourdais - and Alesi started Indy.

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:36:19

Ah screw it I'll try the quiz now :)

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:36:25

    Got a miserable 21 out of 50

    that's a lot more than my 0.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:38:32

Surely it auto posts. Even wordpress can do that

    nope: https://twitter.c…83368108838756353

have to say, i've had to give up reading autosport.com's news content this year, but the people who work there are bloody extraordinary.

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:39:11

Barrichello, Sato, Wilson, Bourdais - and Alesi started Indy.

    Conway was a test driver?

    Pantano is the missing link

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:39:19

All the 'good' food I want is under wrapping paper. #needschocolate

    :) :)

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:40:23

    Pantano is the missing link

    when was he in f1?

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:40:44

    when was he in f1?

    Jordan F1 towards the end.

  • Ryan 25/12/2012 at 00:40:45

    when was he in f1?

2004. Got replaced by Glock in Canada and the final three races.....

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:40:56

    that's a lot more than my 0.

It's multiple choice. Must be impossible to get less than about 13

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:41:52

    Jordan F1 towards the end.

2004. Got replaced by Glock in Canada and the final three races.....

didn't know that. why was there such a fuss that he was overlooked by f1 teams after winning gp2-thingy?

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:42:03

    when was he in f1?

I remember when he was karting and the people in the know thought he was capable of dominating F1. Sometime karting form doesn't translate to cars

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:42:13

It's multiple choice. Must be impossible to get less than about 13

i didn't submit, i looked for any questions i could answer... i'm still looking.

  • guille2306 25/12/2012 at 00:42:44

Waiting for dinner to be ready, so I can't stay as much as I'd like. But I wanted to wish you all a very happy and a merry Christmas!!! :-)

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:43:15

    *hugs guille2306*

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:43:21

When he dropped down to GP2 after F1, he was consistently running towards the sharp end for several seasons. Experienced head for the young'uns to measure themselves against, it built his rep back up.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:43:45

see, if christine was here you wouldn't get hugs.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:44:28

When he dropped down to GP2 after F1, he was consistently running towards the sharp end for several seasons. Experienced head for the young'uns to measure themselves against, it built his rep back up.

ahh, fair enough. what i've learnt from autosport today is my memory is worse than i remember.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:45:04

oooh. i do know the "what did Juan Pablo Montoya hit" question. yet none relating to f1.

  • Ryan 25/12/2012 at 00:46:04

24/50! I'm sort of happy to note I got 2/3 questions in the HRT/Caterham category, correct.

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:46:18

Waiting for dinner to be ready, so I can't stay as much as I'd like. But I wanted to wish you all a very happy and a merry Christmas!!! :-)

Merry Xmas Guille. I take it if it is dinner time you are back in Argentina

  • guille2306 25/12/2012 at 00:46:34

I don't think anyone who saw him hit that is going to forget it

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:47:05

oooh. i do know the "what did Juan Pablo Montoya hit" question. yet none relating to f1.

Indeed, didn't spot that. I'd forgotten about that incident!

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:47:45

Why is it that regardless which channel I switch the TV to Sarah Millican is on it

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 00:47:56

Indeed, didn't spot that. I'd forgotten about that incident!

i'm shocked it was this year.

  • guille2306 25/12/2012 at 00:49:36

Merry Xmas Guille. I take it if it is dinner time you are back in Argentina

Melting at my parents house, 30° at 10pm...

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:50:40

    20/50

    Not too bad..

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:50:45

    Hi Guille

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:52:40

    19/50

And ALL of the WRC ones wrong, lol

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:53:05

Melting at my parents house, 30° at 10pm...

    That's slightly warmer than here.

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 00:54:26

Looks like all our quiz scores are around the same area.

And ALL of the WRC ones wrong, lol

The WRC is dead. No-one is really interested in it any more. Max did a good job of killing it off so it wouldn't compete with F1

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:54:54

And ALL of the WRC ones wrong, lol

Same. And only 2 NASCAR and 2 IndyCar right. Did get both LM questions and the WEC and a GT. Accurately shows where my priorities were this year!

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:55:17

Oh there was a 3rd LM question I got wrong

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:55:45

And I got the last IndyCar Q as well about triple winners

  • guille2306 25/12/2012 at 00:59:22

I have to go now, Merry Christmas again! Bye!

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:59:33

Oh there was a 3rd LM question I got wrong

Got 2/3 Le Mans myself. Got the # of nationalities wrong.

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 00:59:52

I have to go now, Merry Christmas again! Bye!

    Have a good one. :)

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 00:59:56

Same to you too, have a good one :)

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 01:00:12

Got 2/3 Le Mans myself. Got the # of nationalities wrong.

I changed that at the last minute before hitting submit

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 01:00:41

I changed that at the last minute before hitting submit

I hovered over the right answer, then "corrected" it, grrrr :/

  • Amy 25/12/2012 at 01:08:02

I am good at the 'putting the roast in the oven' bit but I'm not so good at the 'how long do I cook it for' bit.

So I am gift wrapping instead, I may have left this bit a bit late.

  • Steven Roy 25/12/2012 at 01:14:25

So I am gift wrapping instead, I may have left this bit a bit late.

It's a traditional thing for Xmas dinner to take way longer than expected

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 01:22:20

I have some Johnnie Walker black while I play around with Spotify playlists.

  • Pat W 25/12/2012 at 01:22:39

By the way I like the idea of calling it a Hangout Plus.

  • Jay (@burwellian) 25/12/2012 at 01:23:29

Watching old Scrapheap Challenge's (Junkyard Wars if in USA) on YouTube 4oD.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 01:35:48

By the way I like the idea of calling it a Hangout Plus.

    i guess it'll soon be a lock in :)

  • Jordan F1 25/12/2012 at 05:34:55

Merry Christmas from Tundraland everyone! Turned midnight about 28 minutes ago. Still on Santa's black list. No industrial strength covert coal-to-diamonds pressure cooker for me from Santa this year, so already I am on the back foot and I have yet to go to bed!

As much as the gal does not mind me getting free coal each year to keep our heating costs down, (Our house is so old we have a coal bunker) she woukld like something a little more unpredictable as a present....

  • Christine 25/12/2012 at 05:46:18

see, if christine was here you wouldn't get hugs.

I think I can dispense hugs seeing as it is Christmas. I am mellowing in my old age.

Merry Sidepodchristmas everyone. Hope it's an excellent day full of fun, food and medium to rubbish TV. Do pop back and let us know what presents you get :)

  • Amy 25/12/2012 at 10:44:03

boxing day cricket is famous here! Last time I went it was Australia v England in an ashes test which was a little more interesting to me than tomorrow's Australia v SriLanka

Goodo, that's what the Kindle does best. Never mind any of the other fancy stuff. Mmmm, reading.

  • Amy 25/12/2012 at 13:06:08

I just had to throw out a plate of trifle, I just can't fit any more food in :(

In present news, I got the armband for my phone that I wanted so now I can go running and not have to hold onto it and keep accidentally pausing my Nike+ app.

  • Amy 25/12/2012 at 13:06:33

Merry Christmas you lovely lot! Hope you all have a nice day :) I've been gifted with one thing so far - a Mclaren Membership!

    yay!

amazon's prices could be very dangerous... Plus I read part one of That'll be the Day ,already!

That will make quite a lot of difference :)

I wanted to go for a run today, I did last year on Christmas Day and it was ace. No one about at all. Don't think my throat/chest would appreciate it today though. Rats.

The trouble with Amazon is, they keep having silly sales that suck me in, even though I have a book backlog a mile long!

I saw heaps of others out this morning but I guess we do have slightly better running weather at Christmas :)

My mum got me this top www.kathmandu.co.…men-v2-black.html but in purple. I had no idea it retailed for that much, its really really nice. Points for her, shes normally so pants at buying me clothes :)

  • Christine 25/12/2012 at 13:11:02

    books for 20p is brilliant/evil!

Exactly! And the 99p Daily Deal throws up some surprises sometimes too.

I did spot the Amazon chaps being a bit cheeky though, making the second book in a series 20p so that it's too bargainous to resist, but then if you're anything like me, you have to go back and buy the full price first book anyway. Tricksy :)

    definitely!

in giving news, I gave my friend this notebook www.moleskine.com…9335#.UNmmVW-TySo so she can do a retro analogue version of film watch and she spent all night talking about how awesome it was. I think that may be the most thoughtful gift I've ever gotten someone because I definitely come from the Christmas school of 'tell me what you want and I'll buy it for you, no surprises here'

oh and tips for not ending Christmas early, my friends wanted to play Buzz but trivia, me, and serious competitiveness go together quite nicely so after absolutely smashing them twice in a row they didn't want to play any more and they went home haha. Oops.

some of them make sense, but how much can you really need to write about your dog and cat? or do you just rate dogs and cats that you see on the street?

Accidentally ran my iPad out of juice earlier, but I got F1 shower gel and deodorant. Hope it doesn't smell of engine oil - it does look like it!

    It should be!

  • Kai 25/12/2012 at 17:00:17

sleeping until 3pm on xmas day. priceless.

Merry Christmas everyone! I slept until 10, made pancakes and bacon, and put the chicken in to cook for later. And I had a few gifts sent from family so I had a few things to open. Single people on Christmas with no family around...yep. Mixed emotions.

  • Kai 25/12/2012 at 17:04:30

I like the time on my own to do whatever I want, but it would be nice to meet the right guy. The holidays can be a little sad. And after the tragedy in Sandy Hook last week, the most important things like love and friendship come into sharp focus. It's been a rough year. It'd be nice to have a lovely boyfriend to share life with.

On a lighter note, I'm watching House Hunters and House Hunters International. I like watching people look for new places to live. Living vicariously until next summer, hopefully.

  • Mr C 25/12/2012 at 17:10:59

    yay! we has nachos.

The good thing about a rough year is that it comes to an end and a whole new one is waiting to take its place.

I'm ready. Sandy Hook is 10 minutes from my school. We were on high alert and no one could go outside for any reason. It was scary. I'm glad to leave all of that fear behind. We have new, permanent security measures that will always be reminders, but we also feel closer as a staff and priorities get sorted out real quick in a situation like that.

  • Kai 25/12/2012 at 17:20:08

    yay! we has nachos.

mmm. I'm finishing my chocolate cake from my birthday on Saturday. nom nom.

  • Kai 25/12/2012 at 17:21:04

oh, and I woke up to a white Christmas! It snowed last night a little bit! Yes!

  • Kai 25/12/2012 at 17:49:10

Not yet. I think we'll be getting some more in a few days. I hope so. I love snow. I was born in a snowstorm.

well, not, like, out in it. My mom was taken to the hospital to have me while there was a snowstorm outside. #clarity

Merry Christmas, Will. I'm watching Giggles Advent. I missed a bunch of them. It's fun to see so many different people contributing.

  • Will^ 25/12/2012 at 18:45:59

I still have a lot of those to watch, now I have time instead of getting ready for the big day. I feel this next will provide the time.

  • Christine 25/12/2012 at 19:31:57

Think we're gonna see about watching a film (festive or otherwise). Back in a bit peoples!

When I was at the zoo a little while ago they had pygmy hippos. They are about as big as a labrador or retriever. Very cute. If I had land I would want to have a dozen or two

There will be a special event for the fabulous Doctor Who episode, but apart from that, feel free to share whatever part of your day you want to with us. We'll be around, so stop in and say hello.
