What did you want to be when you grew up?

Published by Christine Blachford

This week in the UK, many students eagerly anticipated and received their A Level results - prompting decisions about universities and future career paths. That clearly leads us onto the question, what did you want to be when you grew up? Astronaut or bus driver, we all had those dreams of being something when we didn't really know what it meant. What was yours, and what changed your mind in the end? Or are you living that dream?

    Hello Sidepodcast Sunday.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:01:58

    Hello!

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:02:03

    Afternoon everyone in Sidepodcastland....

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:02:11

    Good evening to you.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:03:14

    Nice question :)

Because of those books about a caterpillar you get read to you when you are super young, i really wanted to be a caterpillar because i thought it was incredibly cool they turned into butterflies. Alas, it was not a career choice to be...

  • Amy 19/08/2012 at 17:03:18

    hello!

i am plugging and running because i really need to go to sleep. stupid monday morning.

Aww, that would have been quite the news story if you'd achieved it!

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:04:16

Aww, that would have been quite the news story if you'd achieved it!

    channel 4 would've had a field day

  • Amy 19/08/2012 at 17:04:25

oh and in answer to the question i wanted to be a lawyer (strange for a child, apparently), not being in the top 1/3 of my LAWS101 class killed that dream because only the top 1/3 got to go onto second year classes.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:04:54

Although in junior school I did really want to be a journalist, which kind of fed into my enjoyment of english in high school I suppose

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:05:22

Considering I haven't grown up yet, I'd still like to be a fully functioning human being. I live in hope.

  • Ryan 19/08/2012 at 17:06:53

    Goooood evening.

I've always really wanted to be a journalist, but I've always thought I could do a decent job as a football manager if someone fancied giving me a chance.

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:07:25

I had no idea what I wanted to be and I succeeded. Now when growing up should have happened a long time ago there are loads of things I want to do.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:08:03

    Goooood evening.

    How was your holiday ryan?

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:08:04

I should point out some of us have a week to go before we get exam results

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:09:05

Hmmm what did I want to be when I grew up.....

    I) Aged: Very young brat: A Truck driver (you call them lorry driver)

    2) After 1982: A Military Fighter Jet Pilot. The Canadians would not except me as I had farsighted vision at teh them. (They wanted 20/20) End up as a pilot for the reserves. (Less Modernized equipment meant farsighted vision was a plus.) Eventually worked down towards current glider and propeller driven aircraft status only....

    3) Filthly rich. Trying to prove I am bernie's long lost cousin.... :P Still working on it.

  • Ryan 19/08/2012 at 17:10:51

    How was your holiday ryan?

It was fine, too hot like, but no one ever seems keen on going to Iceland in the summer...

Of course the best part was not really a part of the holiday and I did miss the Spurs match, which turned out to be quite useful.

  • Will^ 19/08/2012 at 17:11:18

    Afternoon all.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:11:55

Christine what did you want to be?

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:12:36

I should point out some of us have a week to go before we get exam results

You've been taking A levels Steven?

    Afternoon peeps

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:13:13

Christine what did you want to be?

I passed through lots of different phases. Teacher, bus driver, postman. At one point I wanted to be a firefighter before I realised that it's quite scary.

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:14:01

There was also a time I wanted to be the person who opened and closed curtains in the theatre. Quite a niche role, I would have thought.

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:14:01

You've been taking A levels Steven?

Nope. I am hoping for a proper serious safety qualification And Christine says if I fail she is taking my safety column off me

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:14:05

When I was younger, I wanted to be a professional race car driver. (Of course who didn't)

When I got older, I wanted to work with tuning shops and set performance parts for cars, or be a race driving instructor.

And seeing that I drive around daily in a car covered in race car stickers, it's save to say that I haven't grown out of those dreams. - startinggrid.org/…ag/project-kyoko/

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:14:39

There was also a time I wanted to be the person who opened and closed curtains in the theatre. Quite a niche role, I would have thought.

    Great hours though

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:14:46

I passed through lots of different phases. Teacher, bus driver, postman. At one point I wanted to be a firefighter before I realised that it's quite scary.

    Heheh.

also, thinking about childhood tv shows... Postman pat, Fireman Sam, The Magic School Bus... maybe it was kids tv's fault!

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:15:18

There was also a time I wanted to be the person who opened and closed curtains in the theatre. Quite a niche role, I would have thought.

Classic, I used to think that those curtains were super heavy and it took a fleet of strongmen to pull them open. (I was 8 though)

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:15:40

    Great hours though

Except for the all-nighter marathon shows on occasion

  • Will^ 19/08/2012 at 17:15:58

I never really had a good idea of what I'd want to be, apart from I never wanted to be a teacher. Needless to say I became a teacher. And have since been reminded of why I didn't want to do it in the first place.

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:16:20

Does Power Ranger count? I did want to be a Power Ranger. Oh, and then I wanted to be Captain Sisko from Star Trek. ;)

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:16:29

also, thinking about childhood tv shows... Postman pat, Fireman Sam, The Magic School Bus... maybe it was kids tv's fault!

I blame my parents! Being born on a Military base does make you have a skewed view on the world around you....It seems so strangly regimented......

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:16:32

I remember one time we went on a trip to techniquest in cardiff which is a sciency place of scienceness for kids (they say for kids, I still want to go again as it's brilliant) and they had a guy one time we went testing the machines and contraptions. on that day I wanted his job.

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:16:34

Does Power Ranger count? I did want to be a Power Ranger. Oh, and then I wanted to be Captain Sisko from Star Trek. ;)

    Power Ranger definitely counts!

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:16:46

Is it wrong to have absolutely no conception of what I want to do when I'm older?

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:17:01

Is it wrong to have absolutely no conception of what I want to do when I'm older?

Gonna break it to you now - caterpillar's a no go.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:17:22

Does Power Ranger count? I did want to be a Power Ranger. Oh, and then I wanted to be Captain Sisko from Star Trek. ;)

Sisko was pretty cool, though only once he shaved his head and grew the beard

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:17:40

Gonna break it to you now - caterpillar's a no go.

    I'll find a day dangit.

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:17:50

Does Power Ranger count? I did want to be a Power Ranger. Oh, and then I wanted to be Captain Sisko from Star Trek. ;)

That would mean that you would be speaking Japanese and having somebody else dubbing your voice into passible English.... :P

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:17:52

Is it wrong to have absolutely no conception of what I want to do when I'm older?

No, it just means you haven't found it yet

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:18:13

oooh! another one when i was growing up was wanting to be someone who test games but I realised i would be forcibly made to try and break them which would in turn make me hate them. Not good!

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:18:42

oooh! another one when i was growing up was wanting to be someone who test games but I realised i would be forcibly made to try and break them which would in turn make me hate them. Not good!

You could be a games reviewer, which is more like playing them.

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:19:31

That would mean that you would be speaking Japanese and having somebody else dubbing your voice into passible English.... :P

I have no problem with that, as long as I get to pilot the robots. ;)

  • Amy 19/08/2012 at 17:20:12

after the excitement of the olympics i want to work in sports. i dont know how or what, just sports.

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:20:52

oooh! another one when i was growing up was wanting to be someone who test games but I realised i would be forcibly made to try and break them which would in turn make me hate them. Not good!

This is truth. I spent a year testing racing video games. (My name is in the credits on Forza 3) When I was finished, I couldn't pick up a game controller for like a year. Put a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:21:16

after the excitement of the olympics i want to work in sports. i dont know how or what, just sports.

What about sports event management? You could probably teach them a thing or two on how NOT to do it

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:21:32

    cool!

As a freebie, do not let Malide have a demo run, would be a good start.... :P

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:22:31

Sisko was pretty cool, though only once he shaved his head and grew the beard

Basically when he got command of the Defiant, Sisko became a badass. He was my favorite captain after that.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:23:10

Basically when he got command of the Defiant ....

    Very true

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:23:25

Basically when he got command of the Defiant, Sisko became a badass. He was my favorite captain after that.

I could never take to Sisko or Deep Space 9. It's called Star Trek not Star Park Here for a decade

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:24:05

I could never take to Sisko or Deep Space 9. It's called Star Trek not Star Park Here for a decade

Voyager was dire and they went farther than anyone else in Starfleet.

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:24:09

Basically when he got command of the Defiant, Sisko became a badass. He was my favorite captain after that.

Is not the Deflant teh ship in Star Trek NG that keeps getting blown up?

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:24:19

As a freebie, do not let Malide have a demo run, would be a good start.... :P

You have to wonder what he wanted to be when he grew. Demolition Derby driver? what did the other drivers want to be?

  • Amy 19/08/2012 at 17:24:43

What about sports event management? You could probably teach them a thing or two on how NOT to do it

i have bookmarked the 'job vacancies' page on the NZ Olympic Committee just in case ;)

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:24:53

I could never take to Sisko or Deep Space 9. It's called Star Trek not Star Park Here for a decade

That's why the Dominion War made things more interesting for me. The epic battles came to us, rather than going out and upsetting other aliens. ;)!

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:25:01

Voyager was dire and they went farther than anyone else in Starfleet.

Voyager was the best Star Trek series ever. But i think we are getting about as far off topic as they did

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:25:21

In terms of now, I still want to be a teacher preferably with IT. I think ultimately I'll get it but I kinda feel that it'll happen at the right time in life. Got accepted for a BA teaching course but at 18 it felt really... wrong? Like I had no experience and stuff.

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:25:29

You have to wonder what he wanted to be when he grew. Demolition Derby driver? what did the other drivers want to be?

A point can me made (like I did) that he has yet to grow up, Steven.....

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:25:56

Is not the Deflant teh ship in Star Trek NG that keeps getting blown up?

    This episode?

    en.wikipedia.org/…_Next_Generation)

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:26:10

Is not the Deflant teh ship in Star Trek NG that keeps getting blown up?

It only got blown up once. Otherwise, it was doing all of the blowing up!

(Good to know we have alot of Trek fans out here.)

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:27:48

(Good to know we have alot of Trek fans out here.)

Janeway would have kicked Sisko's butt. She is really Kirk in terms of character.

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:29:06

    This episode?

Nope, that was the Enterprise-D, and they were stuck in a temporal singularity there.

The Defiant got blown up during Season 7 of DS9 when a Federation Fleet was looking to recapture Chintoka. Breen energy dampening weapon.

(And yes, I knew that without Wikipedia. -Go useless trivia) lol

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:29:14

Voyager was the best Star Trek series ever. But i think we are getting about as far off topic as they did

    "That would be logical."

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:29:29

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:29:55

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

Well, we know that Mr C was born in front of a computer, so I think it was always to be a geek.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:30:02

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

    a genius. he suceeded! :)

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:30:15

    a genius. he suceeded! :)

by that i mean smart, and not a genius from Apple. although he could be one of them too.

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:30:23

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

I guess he want to move up in the world. so maybe the letter "B" or "A". ?

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:30:34

Maybe Mr C was born to invent the number 3 in binary

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:31:21

Janeway would have kicked Sisko's butt. She is really Kirk in terms of character.

Most likely, Sisko and Janeway would have both rammed their ships into one another and the whole thing would have been a draw. Sisko was a combat captain anyway, and Janeway was a scientist that got battle-hardened by Delta Quadrant aliens for seven years. She took no guff by the end of it.

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:31:32

Maybe Mr C was born to invent the number 3 in binary

That would make him very clever. Especially if he did it without the number 2

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:31:35

Maybe Mr C was born to invent the number 3 in binary

surely C(hex) in binary is 1100?

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:31:44

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

I can't imagine Mr C was ever a child. Like David Attenborough.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:31:58

That would make him very clever. Especially if he did it without the number 2

Thats what makes it even more amazing! like spinal tap, it's one more.

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:32:07

I can't imagine Mr C was ever a child. Like David Attenborough.

    Hehehe!

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:33:35

Thats what makes it even more amazing! like spinal tap, it's one more.

The only thing in Spinal Tap you can conncet Mr. C to a few of the drummer's deaths.... :^p

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:34:48

The only thing in Spinal Tap you can conncet Mr. C to a few of the drummer's deaths.... :^p

But mr c's coding skills go up to 11.

No literally, because it's binary too.

I want that quote on a shirt!

  • Will^ 19/08/2012 at 17:36:55

I wonder what Mr C wanted to be

If he wanted to become an anonymous cog in a machine, then he only managed to achieve half of it.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:37:02

    Lukeh, this would help: www.escapade.co.u…illar-dlx-cos.asp

    He he

    George Bush would approve

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:38:17

Autosport have analysed that williams are the most improved team so far this season. I'm glad it took them lots of analysis to work that out as I could have told them for free

    They finally fired Maldie?

  • Davin S 19/08/2012 at 17:39:41

I used to want to be a motorsport journalist, but then the internet appeared and now everyone is one ;) jk .

  • Janna 19/08/2012 at 17:43:14

Hello all. I don't remember wanting to be anything growing up which is why I have drifted around doing different jobs. Everyone told me I was going to teach because of my parents' jobs but I knew I definitely could not do that.

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 17:46:47

    Hi Janna.

I found it really difficult growing up to think of myself ever being an adult and working. I think that is why I was so indecisive. Maybe it would have been easier with the internet where you can find out a lot more about the world.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:47:25

Hello all. I don't remember wanting to be anything growing up which is why I have drifted around doing different jobs. Everyone told me I was going to teach because of my parents' jobs but I knew I definitely could not do that.

You should take over the trains Janna. I am still amazed by your pinpoint precisisity of the trains last year

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:47:38

Preciseness... even... I'm not sure if thats a word

  • Janna 19/08/2012 at 17:48:07

I think it would have been but I have to say I'm glad I went to university when you still got a grant & didn't have to pay tuition.

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:48:54

So, I took the quiz and it said I should be a Fashion Boutique Owner. I knew I'd taken a wrong turning in my life.

  • Kai 19/08/2012 at 17:49:34

I never really had a good idea of what I'd want to be, apart from I never wanted to be a teacher. Needless to say I became a teacher. And have since been reminded of why I didn't want to do it in the first place.

amen. I didn't know what I wanted to do until sophomore year in college. I had to declare a major, so I went with teaching. I do love parts of it very much. I'm trying to focus on that and keep the rest of the bs at bay.

I did want to be a truck driver when I was about 10. My 'friends' laughed at me. I thought it'd be cool. I liked the sound of the engines, the power. I guess I was preparing to love racing.

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:50:44

So, I took the quiz and it said I should be a Fashion Boutique Owner. I knew I'd taken a wrong turning in my life.

I'm taking this quiz now. I'm sure my being male won't affect this quiz for women.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:51:02

So, I took the quiz and it said I should be a Fashion Boutique Owner. I knew I'd taken a wrong turning in my life.

I am stuck at the faviurite tv show quetsion as none of them are futurama or arrested development.

  • Kai 19/08/2012 at 17:51:08

Is it wrong to have absolutely no conception of what I want to do when I'm older?

No, I'm not sure I know now.

    Truck driving is awesome.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 17:51:18

Mine cam out as Boutique Owner too and a link to being a makeup artist. Not careers I have previously considered!

  • Christine 19/08/2012 at 17:52:34

Mine: "You Should Be a CSI Investigator!"

There could be a new version of those show, CSI Bassano.

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 17:52:42

Mine: "You Should Be a CSI Investigator!"

Me too. I demand to work with Diebenkorn.

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 17:52:50

There could be a new version of those show, CSI Bassano.

But which Who song would be the theme tune?!

  • Ryan 19/08/2012 at 17:53:01

I am stuck at the faviurite tv show quetsion as none of them are futurama or arrested development.

It doesn't even have the best US crime drama... (despite CSI still being freakin awesome)

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:53:55

So, I took the quiz and it said I should be a Fashion Boutique Owner. I knew I'd taken a wrong turning in my life.

What do you know. CSI Investigator. Actually with "the stiffs" that I do work with... It is not that far off.... :P..

There's definitely a SidepodCSI offshoot available here.

Who knew we had so many crimefighters here?

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 17:54:51

I did want to be a truck driver when I was about 10. My 'friends' laughed at me. I thought it'd be cool. I liked the sound of the engines, the power. I guess I was preparing to love racing.

So KIa is actually Lisa from the TV show "Ice Road Truckers?" :P

But which Who song would be the theme tune?!

"Who Are You?" as the first line is "I woke up in a Soho doorway, the policeman knew my name" and we know what a bad influence Bassano is ;)

I found it really difficult growing up to think of myself ever being an adult and working. I think that is why I was so indecisive. Maybe it would have been easier with the internet where you can find out a lot more about the world.

I'm now tutoring - which is the best part of it all ;)

Yes! I'll be tutoring more again soon, and that's a great fall back plan if there's no teaching job for me in Chicago next year. I'll start my last year here next week. Whew! I can try to do some voice over work, too, but I need to get better at that.

If he just said that, I'd be ok with Maldonado crashing his way through F1, since we're admitting the truth.

I still find it bewildering that Rubens thinks that Pastor has crashed less this year that last year, I'm still trying to see if that's true...

Certainly is. We were discussing what you wanted to be when you grew up.

Am guessing it's not a pizza chef ;)

  • Ryan 19/08/2012 at 18:41:26

I heard that it's been crash insane this weekend.

You rarely see it that bad or spectacular in speedway, looks all scary...

  • Brij 19/08/2012 at 18:41:29

    is the pub still open?

If you come to Edinburgh, pubs are open until 3am until the end of the month (festival liquor licenses, God help us all)

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 18:42:12

Nicky Hayden's crash looked horrible. A couple of broken bones in his hand and was knocked out. The other effect of the crash is that it sent his sister into labour

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 18:42:14

If you come to Edinburgh, pubs are open until 3am until the end of the month (festival liquor licenses, God help us all)

yeah, probably best as an email question. :)

  • Jordan F1 19/08/2012 at 18:44:10

I bet dollars to donuts that mr. C's dream job was to be a stage technician for the Bangles, I wonder if he knows that they are still on tour?

  • Brij 19/08/2012 at 18:46:25

There's an ice diving site about 1.5 hours away from me. There's a massive lake 5min utes away from me where the weater is freezing all teh time.

How much interesting stuff grows under the lake? (I've got my eye on a uni in Norway, because they offer marine botany courses that include ice diving.)

    Must be heaving!

It is. The city's population has doubled for the month.

I'd love to do the Edinburgh Festival one year though

Make sure you book accommo in advance (or if you have a friend with a flat, crash on their couch). Hotels in this place charge insane prices for August.

How much interesting stuff grows under the lake? (I've got my eye on a uni in Norway, because they offer marine botany courses that include ice diving.)

I've always dreamed of taking courses in Stockholm, 'cause it's awesome, and almost free. :)

How much interesting stuff grows under the lake? (I've got my eye on a uni in Norway, because they offer marine botany courses that include ice diving.)

Gods knows, as the lake inquestion is called "Ontario" and has been recorded as going down as deep as 823 feet.

I do know that there is a sandly botom at the every western tip at 70 feet, with a shipwreck... The Storms just rip up teh bottm in that area, although.

Another wreck is in 115 feet. Has a tiller instead of a rudder, and a ton of zebra mussells.

Ooh, interesting! I shall have to dive it (when I've bought a dry suit).

Last I checked they were instituting some kind of fee for foreigners going full time, but it was so much less than here that it seemed doable.

i can't laugh at other sports anymore since i enjoyed ball gymnastics at the olympics.

  • lou 19/08/2012 at 19:28:27

    was sup?

went to my aunts today (the one with the super fast internet), was there from 7am -6:30pm.. was that enough time to download a film (sidepodfilm infact) and mountain lion? no. no it wasn't. you would have thought so right... but no. the internet gods hate me. Firstly the film half downloaded then the internet dropped, so i had to redownload as the film corrupted. THEN the internet dropped again... this went on for about 2 hours. I reset the router, turned off the mac and then on again, did all the things i do to stop it dropping out or not letting me connect to the wifi and it kinda fixed the problem.. so i thought.

so an hour passes and i've given up on the film by this point, then i attempt to download mountain lion (as the connection has stopped dropping) then OH connection drops and wont let me on the wifi for hours.. then, a few hours later i try again and then oh there is something wrong with the download.. and ergh. I give up. I'm going into the apple store and a nice man will do it for me. I can't do this anymore it shouldn't be so difficult to download the solution to the problem they gave me with lion!!!

plus i've paid for the film and mountain lion.. neither of which i have... who said downloading things was the future!! give me CDs any day!!!

    :)

downloading is the future, but only if you live in the future. i wouldn't/couldn't go back to CD's now, but we've spent the last 5 years preparing for it.

many easily-entertained people love it, I guess? Maybe they don't care if they're not really racing, as long as the cars are going around and around? I have no idea. I can't take the whole marketing approach, just, bleck.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 19:34:05

one visit to my house and you would feel my frustration 1mb of internet max is a joke

Just be thankful you don't have to use a 56k modem

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 19:34:31

how is it so popular though?

I think the long cautions gives the redneck fans time to figure out where they left the fridge so they can get more beer

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 19:34:35

one visit to my house and you would feel my frustration 1mb of internet max is a joke

this is another issue i have with downloadable only future - the level of internet connections/access isp's provide make it impossible to be solely reliant on downloads. it's impossible to rely on it when the UK is so rubbish with broadband especially compared to other nations.

  • Bassano 19/08/2012 at 19:34:39

Because I kept reading tweets about it.

I see tweets about the x factor but have never been compelled to watch it

  • Mr C 19/08/2012 at 19:34:49

I think this is precisely why we can't be entirely based on downloadable things though. at least with physical things you *have* it, if that makes sense.

why can't we? pay for decent broadband packages, live near a decent exchange, buy decent equipment. i have no use/time for physical media in my life anymore, not at home or in the office.

  • lou 19/08/2012 at 19:34:58

    Lou, that sucks. #helpful?

is it as easy as that though? look at lou's internet, she lives in the country and her ISP makes it impossible to provide a solid, fast internet connection because of this

  • Steven Roy 19/08/2012 at 19:38:15

when we move house. internet availability is priority #1.

How many #1 priorities do you have? I thought lack of extraneous sounds that interfere with podcasting was #1

is it as easy as that though? look at lou's internet, she lives in the country and her ISP makes it impossible to provide a solid, fast internet connection because of this

depends how important it is. if i lived in the countryside, satellite broadband would be the first thing i invested it.

mum and dad have been here since before the internet existed! we havr been told not till 2015 will we get 20mb speeds. Joy.

I'm just annoyed today becase had I been able to just buy the cd of both the film and mountain lion I would not feel like I had wasted my money because their opersting system destroyed my connectivity. So apple can fix this before I loose my temper or burst into tears :)

  • Lukeh 19/08/2012 at 19:39:07

Just record what you want to say onto a (very retro) tape, then leave everyone who sends you a letter a voicemail by playing back the sound.

Not surprized as your planned solar unit will not produce electricity at that point. Sort of the reason why I am against solar energy. You still need all other forms of energy to act as a primary system for 50% of the time anyway....

    Nuclear energy, on the hand....

You don't need aerodynamics, when you are flying on wires ;)

    :)

  • Mark 19/08/2012 at 19:59:19

Thuderbird 2 is awesome even if its aerodynamics is all wrong. Gerry Anderson knew nothing about rockets though. Watch what happens when any of them land

Gerry Anderson should've hired Gary Anderson.
