If you could be number one in the world at anything, what would it be?

Published by Christine Blachford

This week, I've stolen a line from the children's TV show Blue Peter. They occasionally do live questions and take responses from the viewers, just to prove they are live, I think. A couple of week's ago, the question was this: If you could be number one in the world at anything, what would it be? It can be sports, but doesn't have to be. I think I would like to be number one in the world at baking bread. I'm not very good at it, but I'd like to be better. And maybe eating it too. How about you?

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 14:01:15

  • Jordan F1 (I really owe Button an apology) 20/05/2012 at 14:02:39

Hey guys! Can you do me a favour?

  • Lukeh 20/05/2012 at 14:02:54

if i could be number one at anything, it would have to be number one rubens fan.

Was going to give a cheesy answer but no, number 1 rubens fan would be awesome :)

  • Christine 20/05/2012 at 14:03:08

Was going to give a cheesy answer but no, number 1 rubens fan would be awesome :)

i'm not sure if he's ever been amazingly. Not in the years I have anyways, it's a shame. He seems to rarely be in the UK for fan type of stuff after the Honda years

  • Christine 20/05/2012 at 14:06:38

i'm not sure if he's ever been amazingly. Not in the years I have anyways, it's a shame. He seems to rarely be in the UK for fan type of stuff after the Honda years

Being in Indycar will not help that, either.

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 14:17:33

In like an 80,000 seater? That's less than what Wales get...

there was 11,000 sold before the last round of ticket sales so i assume more sold then, but yes, it won't be anywhere near full which is why even though we don't have tickets yet I'm not worried about not getting any :D

  • Bassano 20/05/2012 at 14:17:40

back to london on a train after the match, wake up on thursday, watch some torch relay, drink some beer, eat some mini pies or other snack, perfect :D

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 14:21:01

Can't see that being an issue

we thought it made more sense than him travelling from cardiff to patland then from patland to london the following day, plus i didnt fancy too much the idea of travelling by myself in the dark.

  • Jordan F1 (I really owe Button an apology) 20/05/2012 at 14:21:05

    Hello Sidepodpeople!

I really don't know what I'd like to be number one at. Maybe I'd like to trade it for being very good at several things...

  • Mr C 20/05/2012 at 14:21:42

Depends where these meetups are. Can't imagine travelling to London would be cheap during the Olympics.

pricey no doubt, but we're only planning one meet-up this year and that'll be it.

    *grips desk for dear life*

  • Lukeh 20/05/2012 at 14:22:03

the rome final starts in about 40 minutes! nadal v djokovic. then its time for RG! Who is not our Ryan or F1's Romain.

  • Mark 20/05/2012 at 14:22:19

pricey no doubt, but we're only planning one meet-up this year and that'll be it.

Well, if the meetup is in Cardiff that wouldn't be so bad.

Mostly I just want to give Lukeh some Australian Fanta and watch his head explode.

  • Mark 20/05/2012 at 14:22:41

i like roland garros, although it needs blue clay just to annoy people.

Purple clay, green clay, pink clay...

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 14:23:35

Well, if the meetup is in Cardiff that wouldn't be so bad.

meetup will be in london, the day before the opening ceremony, so technically not "during" the olympics, just ;)

judging by this tennis i might still be up, the men still haven't started!

  • Kai 20/05/2012 at 15:53:04

Do other countries make such a big deal out of the torch carrying when they host the Olympics?

    Yes.

  • Mark 20/05/2012 at 15:53:48

    Yes.

How did it work in America? Did they visit the entire country or only the state?

was it athens that sent it to every prior host city? that was an epic relay.

  • Janna 20/05/2012 at 15:53:55

To answer the question in the post, I would like to be number one in the world at keeping up with people. I can get very involved in work and what I'm doing and forget to text, tweet or comment with friends.

Generally it goes to a load of countries. This time they stuck it in a plane in Greece and sent ot straight to Cornwall. No other countries involved

What did North Dakota do to not get it?

  • Kai 20/05/2012 at 15:59:05

    huh, interesting.

Torch Relay staff resarched historical sites and key moments in US Olympic history to create a route that would showcase the US.In summer 1994, the senior manager of operations secretly journeyed cross-country to determine the initial proposed route and undertake an initial mileage measurement. He also drove the secondary roads to ensure the route was passable, tracked mileage for a preliminary distance estimate, and resarched local folklore and landmarks to choose celebration sites that ensured the route would pass by places important to the local pobulation. Many ideas generated on that drive were adopted in the final route.

  • Steven Roy 20/05/2012 at 15:59:08

In 2000 it went to a load of places before Australia. In the past they have even sent torches into space. Although they were not lit

yeah. I like that eternal flame idea and the spirit of it all

The most sacred, dramatic, and anticipated moment of the Opening Ceremony has arrived - the arrival of the Olympic flame. It has been 84 days since its arrival in the United States, which, together with the 16 days of competition to come, will equal a symbolic 100 days. In the US, the flame has traveled more than 16,000 miles (25,749 km) in a journey that will conclude momentarily in Atlanta.

  • Kai 20/05/2012 at 16:03:31

yeah. I like that eternal flame idea and the spirit of it all

then there's the traffic, the crowds, the cost, and all that daily trying-to-get-around stuff. But there was a great spirit to it all and it was much better than being in the usual crowd crush stuff.

Actually. No it did not cross the border. Mind you, there more than a few towns where the actual border goes lengthwise down someone's dining room table, as that's what happens when a line of latitude is picked as the border, but thr touch itself did not cross the actual border in 2010.

Another first world problem solved. Trying to charge your phone in the dark: fixed!

Errr, why are you in the dark trying to charge your phone in the first place. Either turn on the light or good luck trying to charge anything during a power outage.....

Coomon Sense over another stupid electronic device....

I need a different name for each day of the week, I can't stick to one. This is why I have no tattoos.

That's why brackets are useful when you login to SPC

You have a Leith there too?

  • Bassano 20/05/2012 at 16:32:49

i think pebble is a bit flawed sadly, we'll see when it's released though. should work okay with android, but at the moment, iphone over bluetooth appears limited.

Could be, we'll see. I've bought two to sell the other on eBay so at least it'll be subsidised.

Or I could make a big loss, I suppose

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 16:32:50

You have a Leith there too?

everything we have we stole from Edinburgh :D

  • Bassano 20/05/2012 at 16:33:54

Is your Leith as depressed today because their team got beaten 5-1 by their rivals in the cup final which they have not won for 111 years?

  • Amy 20/05/2012 at 16:34:33

Not surprized. London, Ontario is another university town, with legendary party stories to match. Worth my neck to state that Western University (London) is on of Canada's more noted University normally in Laws and Medience..

  • Steven Roy 20/05/2012 at 16:49:12

    True story

  • Bassano 20/05/2012 at 16:50:21

Are they throwing celery at the Chelsea bus?

Is it because of *that* football song?

  • Lukeh 20/05/2012 at 16:50:24

    What?

A few years back I won a compeition to create a video supporting Ari Vatanen and he offered tickets to Monaco and a lunch with himself, but couldn't include travel and accomadation. Due to lack of funds for that side of it and utter planning fail on my part, it didn't work out which was really frustrating because a) it's monaco and it's ari vatanen!! b) i reeaallllyy wanted to take lou and partially watch her reaction to being in the monaco paddock and c) IT'S MONACO!!

Long life ahead yet to visit though :)

  • Mark 20/05/2012 at 16:50:27

    True story

Wow. I wish I had famous friends. Especially if they were world champion at something.

I teach it every day. It takes effort if you're not born with it. If people aren't invested in it, there's no point.

  • Jordan F1 (I really owe Button an apology) 20/05/2012 at 16:55:59

Wow. I wish I had famous friends. Especially if they were world champion at something.

At this time every year I keep bugging a monarchist friend I know by the name of Caroline, who lives in the small Ontario town of Hanover. Still has not gotten me any closer to hang with Albert and Steph at the Royal Box at the Grand Prix. :P
