Rolex 24 at Daytona
Endurance racing at the Daytona International Speedway
Published by Christine Blachford
This year's race sees the Starworks Motorsport team on pole position, with a lineup that features endurance racing legend Allan McNish. Last year's winner, Chip Ganassi Racing were unable to qualify one of their cars and thus start from the back of the grid. With 24 hours and a 5.73 kilometre course in front of them, it's all to play for as the 50th anniversary of the race gets underway. Oh, and look out for bonus Patrick Dempsey somewhere in the field.

Hello everyone! :)
Hi all, and thanks to our gracious hosts for taking up the suggestion. :)
I'll be back in an hour or so, but here are a few preliminaries:
TV coverage starts up to an hour before the race.
UK/Europe: MotorsTV full race; Eurosport 2 comes and goes;
USA: SPEED / SPEED.com
Australia: SPEED Australia
Radio Le Mans WILL have coverage this year, that's the feed MotorsTV will take!
This race is great for guest drivers and one-off entries from other places.
Names:
Allan McNish;
Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon, Juan Montoya and Jamie McMurray share a leading Ganassi entry;
IndyCar guys: aforementioned plus Rahal, Hunter-Reay, Wilson, Tracy, Max Papis.
Ex-F1 interest: Fisichella in a GT Ferrari, and Montoya obviously;
Others: Travis Pastrana, Michael Waltrip, AJ Allmendinger, Olly Gavin, Jan Magnussen, Ricardo Zonta, Mike Rockenfeller, Lucas Luhr, Emmanuele Pirro and RG's man Rob Bell.
An unusually high level of yellows means unlike Le Mans this race often really is contested until last lap.
Thanks for the info Pat, very useful :)
this will be my first dip into the Daytona 24....Motors TV will be a fixture this weekend I think!
plenty of coffee on hand :)
Will you watch the whole race, Barrie?
cheers pat, hey marti.
quick heads-up from us... been doing some updates in the background since the last live event, so although things look the same, the code and database are a bit different. if anything breaks we'll sort it asap (likely by switching things off and on again).
Surely it will be a huge test for the live comment system. I think that, for the F1 season, it could be useful to add a little widget on the sidebar linked to this page, because now it's hard to get here if you don't have the complete link :P
all testing is good testing :)
It's coming, but I made a last minute feature request that has delayed it.
eurosport 2 is available on the ipad for £2.99 (for 1 months subscription). has on and off coverage for the next 24hrs.
That's likely how I'll watch, either there or my existing website subscription. iPad useful to clear up screen space.
Also racing: Brian Johnson of the band AC/DC. Yes, really! Car #50 in DP class.
I think I'll be the main character of 'In the Persuit of Live-Streaming' saga... :P
Hmm... do I watch on Sky Player or Eurosport Player?
24h is quite a lot. I guess you can move from one to the other until you finally decide your final choice :)
will they play thunderstruck as he makes his way around the warmup lap?
Steven Tyler could sing it in the anthem-mode.
you say "sing", i say "ruin" ;)
Is it too early for useful links?
hit me.
Nope!
Official site, link through to timing - http://www.grand-am.com/
Entry list - www.grand-am.com/…es=r&eid=3428
Andy Blackmore's Spotter Guide - http://www.spotterguides.com/
And if you're struggling for a TV feed, RLM are there doing comms for MotorsTV and I think will go live soon on their site - http://www.radiolemans.com/
Thanks Pat :)
14 DP cars, lower than usual but a quality field inc some new Corvettes.
46(!) GT cars, higher than usual with big variety between all-pro quick cars and some less-than-pro drivers, that's a lot of traffic.
btw Speed and Motors should be live now. I'm off to get food. :)
hmm.. why isn't MotorsTV on SkyGo ... :-/
Just found out Eurosport 2 is 8.30 not 8pm. The green flag is at 8.30pm.. will be close
30 minutes to go
15 minutes...
we have eurosport beamed to the tv from ipad. this should be awesome :)
Remind me again, how do you remove an ipad app.. eurosport locked up midupdated
tap and hold till they jiggle.
I'm printing some docs for school. Now I'll search for a streaming and I'll watch the start! :) Then sleep and 12h more of racing after.
Got it, thanks,.
Looking for a streaming!
Hey Marti
no I wont be watching the whole race, I need some sleep sometime lol
I save myself for 2 things - Le Mans and the annual Bathurst 1000 / Japanese GP clash :D
Also - Travis Pastrana = NUTCASE! lol
Streaming found! Wohoo ca.justin.tv/spec…4#/w/2526216976/2
This year I want to watch the whole Le Mans race! It's my intention :P
Also a stream here
www.justin.tv/bes…et2#/w/2526860560
tried it a couple of times........ last year was easy because it was gripping!
Hello from Atlanta, GA USA
Luckily I have Sky so Motors TV is on :D
Oh shame. My streaming is not working well....
blimey I thought that was Ted then!
hehe. odd male voice, to female presenter syncing.
cars and stuff!
Oh, it's on... and I'm not feeling so good :(
:( for Carlton Kirby
:) for Martin Haven
Oh, at first shot, I thought it was Ted Kravitz, but it's not :(
"High road.... way to hell." Oops.
Rock and roll!
Green!
After watching the start, it's time to have dinner-study-sleep. See you tomorrow! :)
See you
Oh, no, it was a man. Maybe I am ahead of/behind you
cheerio!
Someone has pitted already.
#5 Action Express of Darren Law
right I'm off to watch it for a bit :D see you all later I expect :D
I love watching stuff like this because I get excited when I recognise a name. It's like when I started watching F1 oh so long ago.
Just found out from Twitter that this car had an engine fire on Thursday
who are supporting today? every time i follow montoya he does badly.
Yeah all sorts of people do this one now, it's a great warm up to the season. :)
I think I know of Monty, and Dempsey, and Franchitti. And was that a Fisichella I saw? Not him ;)
i love how you hold a grudge.
Ooh this works now: onboard feed www.foxsports.com…3z3-1226253141954
I'm backing McNish/Luhr but not their teammates so much.
Dixon and Franchitti too but they share with JPM so might inherit crash damage..
Better, has choice of feed: http://stream.speedtv.com/rolex24
ooooh, nice ta.
Ah, SunTrust car in the garage, that's a fancied runner
"There are very few numpties in the field". That's a sjame.
Ryan Briscoe's car. He tweets.
Not a good start checking the engine in garage just 25min in. Aaahhh.
loving all the tv/twitter integration.
wilson's there too? cool, lots of known names.
This is his first race back after his midseason injury last year
dr dreamy at the wheel.
Ah I think they just said that as I typed it :)
ahh good.
Race for the lead!
I love them crowd sourcing what the flag was.
Shame they haven't worked out when to fade up the pit reporters!
What was the flag? Did I miss that?
It was some kind of blue and yellow one, apparently means faster cars are approaching.
I guess the blue flag was sent along with the Titanic then…
The US equivalent of a blue flag. Not sure why Kirby thought it was purple.
One hour down already.
On my screen, it also looked purple.
Bad news on the SunTrust car
@Ryan_Briscoe: I think we're done. Unbelievable...
bah.
ahh, boo, coverage is done for a short bit.
Speaking of Twitter..
99forever - I love how heavily @SPEED is integrating Twitter into the broadcast. @IndyCar would be wise to pick up a few pointers! #50throlex24
IndyCar - @99forever Always open to suggestions, thanks!
coool!
commentators aren't that clued up, are they?
Yeh, Handball! i need to swat up before the olympics! enjoying the race so far!
Feels like a total rush job!
Why show handball highlights for 15 minutes midrace?
eurosport schedules are always random...
Well they would likely get complaints if they devoted the whole channel to Daytona for 24hrs.
This is also true, and often their own commentators don't even know if they'll be on live!
I've switched to Radio Le Mans
Eurosport are back and there's a full course caution
I've just hit random links in the Sidepodcast menu and ended up on Christine's YouTube channel…
heh. gonna stretch me legs for a bit. back soon.
Of course, there would be a caution during the long break, wouldn't there!
Restart
Another yellow, that Oryx Audi is having a nightmare race
Whew, glad I found you guys, the old live doohickey is dead or something
This is a new live events system and comments here don't show up there
Bah, more yellow!
Took long enough throwing it!
Evening all.
Has it been interesting so far?
Hurley Haywood is driving? He is 104
The guy in front in the pit lane race was definitely pulling away.
Yeah, the DPs are having a nice battle. The SunTrust Briscoe/Angelelli car is either out or will return hours down, which is a shame.
GT seems fairly tight as well, at least the top 5 or 6.
His 40th Daytona 24 - and he says his last, but he's said that before I think?
He retired from racing about 15 years ago
He is 63 in May
what?
oh phew :)
Not literally!
Looks like we've lost Eurosport until tomorrow..
eh? thought it said until 1am?
i mean, before we paid, it said coverage finished at 1am.
I seem to have Eurosport News instead of racing
That's correct. It's on until 1am on British Eurosport 2.
News is on until 11:15pm.
They're back.
Looks great at night, the way it's lit up.
Justin Wilson leads, great going
McNish getting in the car in the lead. How boring. We want to see him hunting down the opposition
Wow, 3-way battle for the lead involving Wilson and McNish, fantastic
There is an 80 year old driver in the race - Dick Greer who is also the team owner.
Wow. What's the minimum drive time? :)
No idea. His 5 driver team totals 280 plus years but is not the oldest. There is another team with 5 drivers totalling 294 years. According to RLM they have lots of experience.
Andy Lally vs Jorg Bergmeister racing for the GT lead, and now the two Ganassi cars almost banging each others doors!
Oops.
crash?
SC - no.41 Mazda spinning into the no.50 DP
Yep, yellow thrown.
bugger, back in time for a yellow :)
Love Michael Waltrip's attitude, learning a different form of racing
what does montoya's sign read?
It's very distracting trying to write a Superbowl preview post while watching a race and keeping up with comments
isn't it a week away?
So who are you putting as favourites for to win?
yes
Yay, ski jumping coming up :-)
blimey, not back on eurosport until 5pm tomorrow.
am loving their app though. x100 better than last year.
Yes but like last year I want to put a preview post up in the next couple of days so people know about it. Last years was all about badgers and mascara. sidepodcast.com/p…gers-mascara-hike
ahh, cool
I am writing about the Patriots and Kai is writing about the Giants then somehow we will tie it alltogether in one semi-coherent post
It's very good, I wish I could put it on my telly.
can highly recommend the little appletv, but with rumours of a full spec apple television coming, it's probably not the best time to buy one.
How would an Apple Television be different to Apple TV?
it's meant to have a screen. so the box is built into it. replaces your sony, samsung, lg, whatever.
Oh, OK, but if you already have a screen, isn't it just a really expensive screen? Although this is getting off-topic... maybe this is best discussed elsewhere.
it's all rumour anyway, just didn't want to recommend it to pat, only for it to be replaced for something better soon.
eurosport + ipad + apple tv + tv is a fantastic (if not a little convoluted) setup. works very well.
tweet me if you need more info, but eurosport app on apple television sounds like a more simple setup that everyone can fathom :)
I'll add it to the list of things I need to tweet you about :-)
Can't afford either anyway right now
MotorsTV feed with RLM commentary, not sure when it ends www.justin.tv/thu…s#/w/2527933312/2
Oh, thanks, 'cos I'm still on the ski jumping here :-) Will switch over...
cheers pat.
I am watching www.justin.tv/bes…2#/w/2526860560/4 which has run really well all night. Haven't noticed it buffer once and the picture quality is good too
First draft of my part of the Superbowl preview post is done. So now I can sit back and watch McNish leading
flap from mcnish. odd watching him and no franck to back. better get used to that i guess.
I read somewhere Toyota are now going to run a second LMP1 car so maybe they plan on picking up some of the Peugeot drivers. Porsche are talking about doing LMP1 too so Franck should get a drive with one of those
ah-ha, although didn't franck fall out with toyota over their f1 plans?
Marco Andretti has never sat in the car and he is going to race it. Weird idea
Porsche it is then.
i frickin love the daytona grass. where do you get a star shaped lawnmover to mow those lines?
Amazed he's allowed.
This is the car which Kanaan was going to race, then it pulled out after losing a sponsor, somehow they're back with no TK and a last-minute Marco.. after some other swaps all week.
Yellow again
Cup of coffee does sounds good, but I may need to go to bed soon.
The safety car gives me a great opportunity to pump up the tyres on my racing bike so I don't need to in the morning :-)
Fisico's car is out, the 62 Ferrari has engine problems :(
Right, I must sleep. Oh, wait, there's a stray tire. I'll stay up for this.
Well, no yellow thrown, seems to be nothing, so I'm off. will see if I can catch some of this tomorrow afternoon.
night chap.
ahh, boo.
See you.
Hi everybody
hey kai.
I just got in from a big day out in NYC seeing art and stuff. How has the race been so far for you?
how's tricks? am watching the feed, listening to music, drinking wine, eating crackers and coding.
it's kinda like multitasking :)
aka Mr C Heaven on Earth :)
Hi Kai. I'm playing mario with blogathon people :)
seems like a pretty quiet race. couple of fights for the lead, few disappointments. nice to see cars again.
indeed!
... huh?
Thanks for the post on your blog Pat, that's how I found this.
Mr C, how do I find the live commenting events from the home page? Or do I need to get a link for now?
#confuzzled
http://www.grabbagsports.com/
COOL!
Never mind, contents/live events does the trick just fine. :)
contents drop down > live events.
working on a sidebar widget, but christine keeps coming up with new ideas!
Thanks. It's very obvious, I just have too much going on at the mo.
nah, it's unfinished. am literally coding updates right now :)
It sounds silly but I forget how long these races are. 7 hours in.. so far to go
I know what you mean. It's incredible to be able to go to sleep and then get up and watch some more!
Nice to see Justin Bell behind the wheel here. He's interesting to listen to.
Oryx again?? It keeps stopping.
I was thinking about how unpopular they'd be out there if they keep causing cautions. When they drive by, "oh no, not again!".
I'm so tired after a day of tons of walking and great fun. Catch you guys on the flip side.
night kai.
They've caused 2 or 3 now..
See ya for the end maybe
Wait, Marco is actually doing okay? Impressive.
is that unexpected, is he a bit rubbish?
He's not great, but added to that he only arrived as the race was in progress because he'd been testing an IndyCar all day elsewhere in Florida. He's never driven a Daytona Protoype before, and last time he raced this track was in junior formulae. No practice time this week. I'm amazed they allowed it.
My comment vanished I think
i saw it. did it not appear for you?
ahh yes. minor miracle then :)
Nope.
He does have sportscar experience in LMP, but still. They should've made him practice the car. Mind you, this is the first time he's ever driven like Grandad Mario. Drive one car, go to other track, drive completely different car, still fast.
v.odd.
MotorsTV feed ended, there are Speed ones in the Racing list at Justin. But I'm going to bed in about 5 minutes, after this beer.
no probs, catch ya tomorrow sir.
oh go here for overnight feed http://stream.speedtv.com/rolex24
See ya. I'll be back (I hope) at 10 or 11 or 12 depending on when I can drag myself up, but even then there'll still be 8 hrs left..
that's a great stream!
Who is winning?
Morning everyone!
Anyone here?
Blow me, I am obviously out of date. I was looking forward to live-commenting this race on Sidepodcast, but checked the old Real-Time page and could not find a thread and was disapointed. Only found this via Pat's TMR site, although it is looking quiet out ther.
Hello, anyone. Marti. Anyone else?
Lacanta is on twitter. Seems everyone is still sleeping! Awesome race.
I was also expecting new comments to appear automatically, so sorry to be so slow in my reply.
Hello Marti. It is just nice to get any racing.
Negri (second) is now 9seconds behind McNish. I guess his stint will be longer.
They should be automatic.
I certainly did.
Now they are, but for some reason not initially.
Meanwhile, Ant is tempted: https://twitter.c…63544854016692224
Antony needs the work.
We had a single camara-man on the whole Daytona track and now it seems he's gone to sleep. Booo
Am I missing something? I can not find any mention of this thread on either the front-page or the blog-page?
It's a work in progress.
You can get to the events page from the homepage by clicking Contents and then Live events. Or you can head straight to sidepodcast.com/events. We try and tweet and publicise each event as much as possible whilst we're working on it.
There will be something massively obvious on the homepage in time for the F1 season.
Studing time. I'll be back in one hour, i guess.Byee
I fell asleep around 2am. It was only when I noticed my laptop was powered up that I remembered there was a race. Nice to see McNish's car is still in the lead.
9 and a half hours to go
There was a precious persuit between McNish and Allmendinger around the 12h mark... Awesome.
Late last night there were three of them covered by a few seconds but they just ran in formation so it was not exciting. Although I am a McNish fan I almost don't want him to have the lead when he gets back in the car because there is no finer site in racing than Allan hunting down the cars in front
Morning.
Looks like the cars have spread out a bit, still 3 on the lead lap though.
Hi Pat.
Apparently some of the DPs had problems over night. It was mentioned in commentary but they didn't say who had what problems or what the impact of them would be
I'm looking at timing and both the Krohn and GAINSCO cars are a long way down the order. Action Express #9 also a bit back.
Trouble for Olly Gavin
So we had an axle failure just about halfway. It was right when RW was going 2 switch 2 me, cost us 14laps. I just ran 2 stints
I'm back. Wohoo
Watching this race I want to go the my PS3, open Gran Turismo 5 and race around the Daytona GP course... :P
Wilson takes the lead :)
Go Wilson go! Finally the º60 takes the lead.
I've been tweeting for hours and I've not recieved a single RT xD Shame. Hate spanish alonso followers that don't support foreign competitions.
Wilson is giving his best. He is scoring fastest laps lap after lap...
Off out to Argos to get an extension cable. I must have bought enough of those to run a cable to the power station by now. Where do they go
Pick me up one with a figure-8 end.. can't find one locally.
Figure-8-end???
On-board camaras are back! The director is awake. Wohoo
www.tvcables.co.u…8-power-cable.jpg
Brumos won a class at the first Daytona 24 in 1962 with a Porsche, now they lead a class at Daytona with a Porsche..
All seems a bit settled, just lapping around, waiting for the race to come to them. Reliability is biting for many.
This is the NASCAR of sports-cars. We spend most the race thinning out the possible winners, and then there is a sprint at the end.
Just think, this race isn't much longer than the Australian Open final…
The Franchitti breakfast http://lockerz.com/s/178870688
Dario's a bit underpowered.. @DarioFranchitti:
Finished a hard old stint, trying to make up some laps, pretty hard when the only thing the 02 can pass on the straight is the pace car!!
TV is back!
www.justin.tv/bes…#/w/2526860560/10 for Speed
http://www.justin.tv/thunderbunnies for Motors/RLM
I nip out and McNish is third. What happened?
and Dario is not happy
Accident damage to the rear, not sure what hit it though
That will be why the back end looked like it was falling off at the last stop
I think the fluid leaking out of the #8 car in the pits is a greater concern.
Approaching 5 hours to go. Ganassi's 01 into the lead, I took a break so I didn't see why but I guess pitstop sequence?
I haven't been concentrating on the race but I have had it running while I was doing other stuff. I haven't heard of any particular recent problems for any of the leaders.
Heeello everyone again :) How's the race going?
It's a little bit quiet but I get the feeling things could get interesting in the next hour or two.
I've seen that the 01 has taken the lead on the prototypes race. Amazing! Any problems for the 8 and the 60?
Ryan Dalziel has just got the 8 Starworks back on to the lead lap (McNish's car). Now we have 3 cars on the lead lap again.
ooh, cool. how are ya watching, eurosport's back at 5pm, right?
The besweet feed I posted at 2pm, muted listening to RLM.
The Motor feed which has RLM on it, is lower quality.
This yellow is for debris / track cleanup. Puts leaders togehter though.
ta.
Green flag on lap 634
Greetings, all. Waking up to 4 hours still left is freaky and cool.
I am not sure I can make four hours. I was so shattered I went to bed this morning, and then could not sleep! Now my eyelids are drooping.
Get the caffeine. Good time for Mr C and Kai to join, this race is getting more interesting. It needed to.
Yellow for that?
I slept about 10 hours after a really tiring day yesterday.
so I've missed most of the race. I'm appreciating the highlights packages quite a bit.
eurosport is back :)
Great, but I can't stick Kirby so I'll use their feed on mute, listen to RLM.
can't say he's annoyed me. good to have it on the big screen though.
McNish hunting the leader!
awesum!
4 wide!
WOW
fantastic
What a luxury to have a race in my time zone.
Rahal is only 3 seconds behind them
What do you think the car-insurance premium is like for someone that gives their occupation as, "Racing driver".
pitstop race.
mcnish leads.
Wow, good fightback from Allmendinger
amazing!
Imagine getting a last minute call to come and drive a stint or 2 in the Daytona 24 hour because their regular drivers are dehydrated?
*gets up from the couch*
"Honey, do you know where my racing suit is?"
Wow. Banging doors for first.
:)
Yikes, panel bashing
If you guys are listening to the Speed coverage of this with Varsha and Hobbs, this is similar to the F1 coverage I get on Speed, minus the excellent Steve Matchett. It's...underwhelming....
Lead change in the pits after some driver changes, Pruett somehow beat Allmendinger. Pruett could win this.
Love Allan McNish.
90 minutes to go! 3-way fights for the lead in both classes!
Damn. Missed my favourite sight in racing
What incredibly good taste you have
Unfortunately he's not in the car anymore.
I saw the start of his stint. I don't understand why they would not give him the last stint in a race where the point is to stay on the lead lap then race at the end
I think it'll be great if the 60 wins, Justin Wilson's comeback drive after injury and he drove brilliantly
:) He had some choice words for AJ Allmendinger "he moved up on me at 180 mph." And he went on to say (paraphrasing) I wouldn't do that if I were him, but if that's how he wants it... I've been in this game long enough to know that if you do that you have a good chance of it all going wrong and having a big one.
Dalziel getting in again. He seems to have driven a lot of stints
One of the teams ran out of drivers and had to grab some other racer who was about to go home.
@SeanEdwardsR
A tough double stint, power steering has failed and I learnt just how heavy these cars actually are! @NickTandyRacing in now.
Marco Andretti in his arriving late and hopping in was treated for dehydration afterward. Some other info on the race here, kind of a recap of some highlights.
www.ajc.com/sport…-for-1322303.html
I heard about Marco earlier. Getting in without even a seat fitting is asking for problems but dehydration should not have been a problem. There is an 80 year old driving in this race after all
NOOO!!! Pruett major issues getting out of pit lane!!!! Couldn't get a gear!
Pruett loses the engine? The win lost..
Only has third gear
Drove an IndyCar all day, then drove from one track to anohter, then almost straight in the DP car.
waaaaaa!!!!!!
yeah, got the IV fluids then flew off to do Superbowl commercials.
I knew he had driven the Indycar but I didn't know he had done a road trip too
and with no first gear the pit lane limiter doesn't work.
RLM say Pruett has 3rd, 4th and 5th gears
Dario drove a 917K? Is he crazy?
917 is what Steve McQueen drove in the film Le Mans. They were evil cars and killed a few drivers. They even had a pressure gauge that showed when the chassis was getting weak and could split in half behind the driver.
blog.digitalslrph…/2010/07/917k.jpg
www.bing.com/imag…1&FORM=IDFRIR
Look at all those cogs
I think I saw this car or replica at Lime Rock.
I have seen a couple of them in museums. Best place for them. They look and sound fabulous but the engineering and aero was very very dodgy
I like the driver they were referring to who said "if that pressure gauge drops I'm getting out and going home to my mum!" :)
You just have to wonder at the logic.
The chassis is liable to fall apart so we will put a gauge in to tell the driver when that will happen rather than fisx the problem. Says a lot that the governing body didn't think this was a massive problem and let the car pass scrutineering
Indeed.
gah, too bad for the 01. I'd really like to see Pruett match Hurley Haywood with another win.
wouldn't mind Haywood winning another one, either, but the GT class doesn't really interest me in Grand-Am racing.
In any multi-class racing I struggle to take any interest in anything other than the top class
Yeah in ACO/ALMS racing I can follow the GTs with interest, this one just hasn't grabbed me as much even though it is just as tight. Also with only 2 classes here, there was a lull for a long time earlier. With 4 classes, usually when 2 go quiet one of the others picks up.
I take great interest in the GT class in ALMS (and Le Mans), I'm a big Corvette fan. But I previously also took great interest in the LMP's because of Audi vs. Peugeot. Not sure how that's gonna work out this year without the Pugs.
and here it's mostly Porsche GT3 cup cars. And I friggin' hate them.
at least in ALMS it's a knock down drag out fight between Corvettes, BMW's, and Porsche's almost every time.
The lack of Peugeots is a big issue. I hope Toyota is close to being competitive but I am not optimistic
meh, maybe they'll be competitive, eventually. But I doubt they'll be this year.
There seem to be hundreds of them!
They claim that Montoya is in the car, but I think that's a lie. Haven't seen that car hit anything yet.
:D
If it makes a pie stop rather than a pit stop it is JPM
They should have kept McNish for this stint
How he ever fit into an F1 car is beyond me.
As much as I hope it won't be an Audi walkover in each WEC race I fear it might be.
I'll disagree with people who don't like Varsha and/or Hobbs, but that's not a big deal to me.
However, I HATE the Speed TV commercials.
they need to bench mcnish. he's hard enough to beat when you have a top lineup and a decent car.
His car always runs into problems at Le Mans though
Mr C
I have F5d this page a couple of times and I cannot believe how fast it reloads.
YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW
Someone stuck an Audi in the wall just as McNish needs a little assistance. erm??
yay! worked soooooo hard on perf on the new site. glad you can notice it :)
no yellow yet.
but road america etc? walkover surely.
Without Peugeot the best you can hope for is a battle between the Audis
I demand a yellow flag. How can a NASCAR-ish event not throw a yellow this close to the end of a race?
Le Mans is the only one up in the air, especially if Peugeot magic a customer car there. Got to beat the race as much as the competition. Like Daytona!
Oh and Sebring. Massive field, anything could happen.
Awww...doing it for the kids, so they can watch the car go round. I love racers hearts.
I hadn't thought about a customer Peugeot team. That would be a nice way of them continuing to race while showing financial prudence to the wider world
Damn dust in my eye.
*sniff* 'xactly.
I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen any "France surrenders to Germany AGAIN" jokes.
It was tried but ruled out, but I can't believe they'll leave it at that. Rumour on Thur/Fri that the entry deadline was extended for some mysterious reason.
Allmendinger really moved up on McNish. He went from being right on the yellow line to being about 4 feet higher
ACO changing the rules to favour a French team? That can't possible have ever happened before.
;)
Last lap!
Really happy for Justin Wilson to come back from his broken vertebrae to win this.
all done!
good race. cheers pat, cheers everyone for commenting.
A great win for Wilson and Allmendinger! Great drives from both, and Negri.
Thanks for the thread and everyone for keeping me up to speed with everything even when I couldn't watch.
Great to see a close finish after 24 hour and very few full course cautions. A lot of great drives by the winning crew and others through the field
Top quality driving from both sets of drivers, and the 'young drivers' get 3rd as well, F3 champ, Indy lights guy, etc.
A great way to warm up the year. Thanks for joining in. :)
Next endurance race worth anything is Sebring in March, but there is the Bathurst 12 Hr one month from now.
Any race on the mountain is worth watching
By the way this Shank felller is setting up an IndyCar team this year.
Interesting. Never heard of him before
if you can put together a brief description, we can do that too :)
I remember when the only sport you were interested in was F1
hehehe.
Can try. Don't know much about it. Apart from timezones being wonky.
So is the next live commenting going to be the Superbowl?
Was there talk of picking a 6 Nations game?
Superbowl starts 11:30pm next Sunday. I would like to do a 6 nations game
can do, tell us what/when.
we may have to close comments on your pre-game post, otherwise i can see people getting confused where they need to comment :)
We should think of a likely competitive game.
Good idea

Late comment, I know, but it's England v. Scotland on Saturday, isn't it?
Sorry, comments are now closed to new entries.
