Feet Up Friday - Sending the season off in style // Recording Feet Up Friday

Published by Christine Blachford

The Brazilian Grand Prix plays host to what could be a thrilling championship showdown this weekend. Or it could be a damp squib as Vettel breezes to his third title in a row. Either way, we are back to discuss recent F1 happenings, predictions for the race and our plans for the off-season. It's about time we put our podcasting hats on again, so do pull up a chair, grab a beverage and relax as we send the 2012 F1 season off in Sidepodcast style.

You'll know all about it next year I think there's some specials planned for the 50th anniversary. However, as it is the day after the 50th anniversary of JFK being shot there may be one or two other programmes on too.

  • I was struggling to sort out the facts from the rumour. Do we know if Hekki has a drive?

All we know is Pic = definitely Caterham, Guti = definitely Sauber. No news on heikki but it looks unlikely he;ll secure the other Caterham seat which is utterly ridiculous.

I'd like to see Team Finn at Lotus.

Very good. I'm super busy but keeping out of trouble :)

  • No, first time listening live but I've already downloaded the podcast numerous times!

Careful, making sure that you listen live gets addictive!!

  • Wow! What is this?

  • Hello :D I'm not ignoring you, I'm tidying my house and doing some coursework #boring

This is definitely a blast from the past. I haven't heard a live show in like 2 years.

  • By the way Christine I think I might know why you guys remember me. Remember the Franck Montagny picture from 2011 Masters Kart at Bercy? Yeah, I'm a huge fan of FKM too :)

  • Alonso can have the trophy Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Vettel Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then they differentiate ownership every weekend.

  • Or the wet weather

  • In a fair world, Alonso should win the Championship. That Ferrari is horrbile.

There still Grosjean and Pastor that Vettel has to worry about....

  • In a fair world, Alonso should win the Championship. That Ferrari is horrbile.

In a fair world, Ferrari wouldn't break a seal to penalise one driver to make another gain

  • 2009? That was a sleep inducing season...

  • Mmmmm Brawn.

  • Sxchumi strop was 2010?

  • Oh wait, it was 2009 wasn't it. wow.

  • In a fair world, Ferrari wouldn't break a seal to penalise one driver to make another gain

In a fair world, Vettel would have won last race, so we do not have to watch this race, nor talk about it...

  • It was 2009 but I was enjoying Brawn so much I forgot all about it :)

  • In a fair world, Vettel would have won last race, so we do not have to watch this race, nor talk about it...

But who doesn't want to watch this race? Brazil is fantastic!

  • I maintain that there is a Kers fail switch remote for Webbers car.

It seems to be every race that he's anywhere near the front.

  • In a fair world, Vettel would have won last race, so we do not have to watch this race, nor talk about it...

But who doesn't want to watch this race? Brazil is fantastic!

This is like the the 10 thousandth race of the season, if it was not title deciding I would not even care it it was the old Spa circuit....

  • I maintain that there is a Kers fail switch remote for Webbers car.

Ferrari lacks the technology to be subtle about it.

  • The thing is now that team orders are allowed, it is no longer that shocking to assume that F1 as a team sport sometimes include these kind of decisions. Of course this can be seen as a moral-grey area but in the end it wasn't that bad I think.

  • Ferrari lacks the technology to be subtle about it.

I think it's that they simply don't care about subtlety.

To Italians, if Ferrari win, the end justifies the means and the Tifosi will love them for it

  • Mercedes seem to have too many names in there.

  • Mercedes seem to have too many names in there.

    I have no complaints.

  • I wonder if the theory about Webber's size making cooling compromises has an air of truth in it

  • RBR seem to not have enough cooling... alternators, KERS,...

  • Who bets on an alternator failure for Vettel on Sunday? (and who prays for it..??)

  • Unless Ferrari comes up with an awesome car over the off-season, which is doubtful.

  • RBR seem to not have enough cooling... alternators, KERS,...

Newey infamously prefers a 'tight package at the rear'

Remember when Red Bulls fell apart if they hit too many blades of grass at the wrong angle. Newey pushes the limits and seems to be just shy of the sweet spot at the moment

  • Who bets on an alternator failure for Vettel on Sunday? (and who prays for it..??)

I'd not pray for a failure on Sunday (I have been for the past few raced), just that he doesn't get pole and break DRS before end of lap 1.

  • Who bets on an alternator failure for Vettel on Sunday? (and who prays for it..??)

All Renaults have the new spec unit for Brazil

  • surprised the Pic news ended up being true.

  • That sweeper always makes me think Countryfile

  • I bet either Past or Grosjean decides the title in a first corner incident...

  • surprised the Pic news ended up being true.

But whose seat is he taking?

  • The link with Renault, Jerome D'Ambrosio sort of has one, can't he have a seat?

  • He definitely got the drive because his name is Charles.

  • I bet either Past or Grosjean decides the title in a first corner incident...

I'm betting on Karthikayan at the last corner.

  • He definitely got the drive because his name is Charles.

Lukeh, will this forshadow your next season?...

  • It's about money with Caterham likely to lose 10th place

  • That's the made in France I guess... ;)

  • But whose seat is he taking?

Hopefully Petrov... I want heikki to have a drive #sorrychristine

  • Sky's interviews tend to happen Thursday, I think

  • Jerome D'Ambrosio was best thing Marussia ever signed, and they got rid of him, he's far better.

  • Pic has not even attached Chrisitne's notice unlike that guy from two years ago....

  • Hopefully Petrov... I want heikki to have a drive #sorrychristine

As do I but the rumours suggest otherwise

  • Hopefully Petrov... I want heikki to have a drive #sorrychristine

I want to see Heikki go to Williams, probably not going to happen.

  • On the d'Ambrosio/Pic debate, the Belgian and the French will have very different interpretations, but agree on how biased they'd sound!

  • I want to see Heikki go to Williams, probably not going to happen.

    Force India?

  • Force India?

I'll say it again, Jaime thinks he has a drive

  • I want to see Heikki go to Williams, probably not going to happen.

Bottas expected to take Senna's seat

  • Force India?

Anywhere that scores a minimum of one point each year

  • I'll say it again, Jaime thinks he has a drive

    James Allen's chaffeur...?

  • I'll say it again, Jaime thinks he has a drive

    But race or Fridays?

  • But race or Fridays?

He seems v pleased with in before Singa, so I've been guessing race ever since then.

  • I'll say it again, Jaime thinks he has a drive

    HRT?

  • HRT?

do HRT even know if they have a drive? :)

  • He seems v pleased with in before Singa, so I've been guessing race ever since then.

Well, if the FI funding story is true, there should be an imminent announcement

  • Man that's confusing.

  • do HRT even know if they have a drive? :)

A paved one, maybe. That's about it

  • All but I made an awesome post about having all the teams have the name Lotus in them....I would like to being it back...:P

  • Ah not quite right Mr C.

Lotus Racing -> Team Lotus -> Caterham

Renault -> Lotus Renault GP -> Team Lotus

  • Honda leave F1, well, at least twice as Manufacturers....

  • Honda would have to start from scratch, again. Can't see it until they sell a gazillion cars again

  • What, no Heikki? Isn't that a shame.

  • do HRT even know if they have a drive? :)

Might have an HRT drive = one of this year's leftover chassis.

  • Honda leave F1, well, at least twice as Manufacturers....

Once engine suppliers, once manufacturers, no?

  • where's jarno trulli when you need him to fill a seat?

  • Lotus Racing -> Team Lotus -> Caterham

    -> Renault ??!!

  • where's jarno trulli when you need him to fill a seat?

    Hanging out with Luca

  • Team Finn!! Heikki and Kimi pls.

  • where's jarno trulli when you need him to fill a seat?

Sitting on a veranda on his vineyard enjoying the good life.

  • Once engine suppliers, once manufacturers, no?

Plus, I believe it was in response to Toyota F1

  • Team Finn!! Heikki and Kimi pls.

Heikki isn't good enough for Lotus.

  • Honda leave F1, well, at least twice as Manufacturers....

Once engine suppliers, once manufacturers, no?

I think Honda won a race with Sirtees driving. it was the reason why they get a japanese team in the movie Grand Prix.

They had a car called the Hondalola, really.

  • Heikki isn't good enough for Lotus.

Although he did used to drive for them

  • Heikki isn't good enough for Lotus.

He wasn't good enough for McLaren but that happened

    #SorryAmy

  • We need to find out if Heikki still has his Group Caterham shares

  • First to the Finnish Line

    Hire me now, Lotus.

  • First to the Finnish Line

    #hashtag that all season

  • But Renault had a history of being a French team. Prost and Arnoux, anyone?

  • Bear in mind McLaren was essentially Team GB for the last three years

  • Team Finn, lead by Hakkinnen as Team Principle.

    Imagine the after parties!

  • Team Finn, lead by Hakkinnen as Team Principle.

    amazing!

  • Bear in mind McLaren was essentially Team GB for the last three years

But having two good drivers from the same country at the same time is very rare.

  • I think perez just lacked a bit of media training

  • Team Finn, lead by Hakkinnen as Team Principle.

I can only imagine the vodka delivery coming by a shipping crate

  • Perez's head is at McLaren and has been for races, he probably doesn't care.

  • I think it was a leak on someone's behalf, but whose?

  • How much was in the brown paper bag that Gutti gave Sergio for doing that?

  • I don't think Guti is ready. Guti doesn't think he's probably ready. But we need someone to pay for their seat and with the people around and available, he's the best fit.

  • Gutierrez hasn't set the world alight in the feeder series. Mexican money

  • Hulkenburg and Guti seems like such a 'meh' team to me, just seems like such a dull line up... #sorryryan

Although there are about 3 other teams who fall under the same category for 2013

  • Hulkenburg and Guti seems like such a 'meh' team to me, just seems like such a dull line up... #sorryryan

I like Hulk, he's slowly climbing the ladder

  • Hulkenburg and Guti seems like such a 'meh' team to me, just seems like such a dull line up... #sorryryan

Hulk is a good driver, I think he'll be fine. Guti is.. eh.

  • Gutierrez hasn't set the world alight in the feeder series. Mexican money

Agree. Calado, GP2 rookie, almost beat him and Gutiérrez can thank his team for screwing Calado's strategy in Valencia feature race, first one Esteban has won

  • Doc-doc-doctor beat

  • Test and reserve driver, apart from Canada 2011.

  • Thanks, mr. C, now I have that "Gloria" song stuck in my head....

  • Doc-doc-doctor beat

KERS is gonna get-cha, KERS is gonna get-cha

    [not quite as catchy]

  • GP2 can be entertaining but the short races help

  • MSC leaving:

Copy and paste comments from 2006 with the all praise removed.

  • Copy and paste comments from 2006 with the all praise removed.

There was praise in 2006? :)

  • It;s like a cup for a car

  • GP2 can be entertaining but the short races help

Pity about reversed grid tho. World Series by Renault, with 2 qualifying sessions, works better on that particular point

  • A flying modesty panel in Turn 1

  • I propose we (the fans) wear modesty panels to Silverstone on our noses

  • The cars need nose art like the Jordans used to. Shark and snake heads would be quite nice on the cars....

  • I propose we bring back the BMW walrus nose.

  • I propose we bring back the BMW walrus nose.

Now that needs a modestly panel....

  • At least now that as the DRS will only be used on the straights, it will shed as much drag as possible :)

  • I expect to see DRS revert to the long chord due to the change in rules. No need to open it at the end of corners anymore so no need for the little open lots flap type.

  • Hello all. Final Race Weekend live Sidepodcast chat for me for the season because I'm scheduled to work as Qualifying and the race are taking place this weekend. :(

  • It'd hid dad's carting helmet, I think.

  • I expect to see DRS revert to the long chord due to the change in rules. No need to open it at the end of corners anymore so no need for the little open lots flap type.

Exactly. No need to balance it for max track use during Quali - big dumping of drag for the overtakes :)

  • Stefan GP!!!!

  • Would Peter Windsor and all USF1-related parties interested in buying a team? :treed by Mr. C::

And yes, I was dissapointed that Super Aguri couldn't finish the last season that they were in. At leasy Aguri Suzuki had the SuperGT series to fall back on then.

  • The first time anyone has turned it down to 11.

  • Prodrive!

Dave's not even doing mini WRC anymore

Think of all the free time he has

  • I wouldn't mind seeing Roger Penske have a go at a F1 team again.

  • Here's a spade, mr C

  • When Penske was Headquatered in Reading, PA a few years ago, I had the oppurtunity to tour the facility and got to see one of his F1 cars up close and personal. :)

  • Off season plans?

  • Here's hoping for a proper fight/race to the finish at Interlagos on Sunday.

  • Would you say Mr C has been "Working the pole?"

  • Swingometers :)

  • Polemic Polls are Positively & Preemptively Perfect

  • 2013 for Sidepodcast: KERS and DRS are activated Full Time. :D

  • Plus he did a contact page!

  • ...phew!!!!!

  • Red Bull Crashed Ice?

  • 24 Hours of Dubai in Mid-January and the Rolex 24 at Daytona near the end of that month for those who are needing a wintertime racing fix. :)

    Sure, why not.

Shame they got rid of the exhaust blowing last year.

  • Awwww, we've loved it too

  • It's been awesome :)

  • MrC suggesting he'll add voiceless to his already faceless persona.

  • Does Mr C go into the cellar of the biker to code? Deep, deep undercover

  • *bunker, not biker

    Grrr

  • I rarely use my desktop to comment now. Could be one of 3 mobile devices though

  • *Busted*

  • Back in the day, the site never even used to work properly on my laptop because the screen wasn't big enough. Forget the phone!

  • ... But, but, but this is my first year.

  • But but but, I do the odd post, but there no way I have the time to do a regualr column....

  • :D = not lazy.

  • I'm getting more tutoring hours at school, so might not be doing too many late-night games as well.

  • well, I can do strange too, if you want. Working on another "What if" now...

  • Sounds like a job for Rubbergoat....

  • I'm hoping to push Tech Spec into a more full-time column for next year - so long as there are enough developments to speculate about.

  • Cheers guys

  • End of year review?

  • She's kicking you off the air , mr. C!

  • Amazing. Thanks both :)

  • Thanks, guys!

  • Thanks everyone. We knows how to waffle :)

  • BOO. I missed FuF because I was playing weird bowling. Still it means I have FuF and Joe to listen to.

    How weird can bowling get?

  • How weird can bowling get?

Very. Kai gave me a technique tip last night because I have only played twice and that was 20 years ago and I was hopeless. So I did what she said and got 9 with my first ball. Then it got odd. In one frame I put the first ball in the gutter then knocked down all the pins with the second. Next shot I got a strike. Next frame two gutter balls. I keep doing the same thing yet some times I send all the pins flying and at other times the ball is in the gutter before it is half way to the pins

  • BOO. I missed FuF because I was playing weird bowling. Still it means I have FuF and Joe to listen to.

combined they become a seemingly never-ending discussion about renault :)

That sounds like normal bowling to me :)

  • combined they become a seemingly never-ending discussion about renault :)

It is a subject that needs much discussion.

  • That sounds like normal bowling to me :)

Not just me then. It is so frustrating because a couple of times I thought I had it sussed then the magnets in the gutter were switched on again. I can understand getting 3 then getting 6 or 7 but to get so many zeros with a few tens makes no sense. I need video and expert analysis

Yes! Some live timing and some on screen analysis with lines and strategies and stuff... this would help.

  • Hi! I realize this is somewhat off-topic but I had to ask.

Does building a well-established website such as

yours require a massive amount work? I am completely new to operating a blog but I do write in my diary

on a daily basis. I'd like to start a blog so I can easily share my personal experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips for new aspiring blog owners. Thankyou!
