Published by Christine Blachford

Three high definition channels will debut in August, BT Sport 1 and 2 plus an ESPN channel running content acquired from the cable television network back in February. Included in the ESPN purchase were rights to screen both IndyCar and NASCAR championships.

  • Considering the build up this has had (in our household anyway), our doubts about Jake's career choices may have been wrong!

  • I'm watchingt too!

  • I'm watchingt too!

    Yay!

  • Aww, I forgot how good jake is at live presenting

  • i ♥ jake!

  • Aww, I forgot how good jake is at live presenting

    He is!

  • The walking and talking alongside talking about the premier league reminds me of the Mitchell and Webb look football sketch

  • Is it my eyes or have BT turned the world purple?

  • That's a cool studio.

  • That guy was pretty good too.

  • OH WOWOWOW

  • Silly rio, you don't play for BT Sport

  • It's huuuuuge!

  • Owen Hargreaves has resurfaced!

  • what a studio.

    *dies*

  • Macacamanama,

  • How is it possible that Michael Owen still hasn't developed a personality in all this time?

  • Owen and Owen.

  • Nobody said you had to order it to watch it on the ipad. I just downloaded the app, put in my BT ID... and it told me I hadn't ordered the channel. Well duh, I don't want the channel, I want the app.

  • Massive mics.

  • Nobody said you had to order it to watch it on the ipad. I just downloaded the app, put in my BT ID... and it told me I hadn't ordered the channel. Well duh, I don't want the channel, I want the app.

ahh shoot sorry. i stayed up until midnight to do that.

  • ahh shoot sorry. i stayed up until midnight to do that.

Not your fault. They didn't make it clear at all.

  • Yes yes Man city vs Bayern, but what about Aston Villa

(psst... christine... aston villa lost 5-2 to newport last week. sorry)

  • Not your fault. They didn't make it clear at all.

there's a lot bt have got wrong on the customer service front.

  • Poor David James, someone has grown crest on his head and no ones told him

  • odd buffering on this app, it doesn't fall behind it just skips content.

  • i guess that means you'll never fall behind during an event.

  • Where's Phil Tufnell>

  • ref cam!

  • Wow. Ref Cam?!

  • GoProtastic

  • wow, great picture coming from that thing.

  • I'm watching too, and desperate to hear concrete details about subscriptions. I've seen them mentioned here and there.

  • there's a lot bt have got wrong on the customer service front.

I tried to do it on the iPad. 'Sorry, there's been a technical error'. But it works on the desktop! It'll take 15 minutes to authorise. And they sent one of those voice texts to my landline to confirm.. :)

so you're up and running? that's fab.

  • sky sports to respond to bt sport by introducing charlie-whiting-cam

  • do we know what the desktop delay, about 60 seconds as usual?

  • so you're up and running? that's fab.

Yep. Based on the text form I had to fill in to confirm my email address, I reckon the 'technical error' is that my BT ID isn't an email address.

  • Yep. Based on the text form I had to fill in to confirm my email address, I reckon the 'technical error' is that my BT ID isn't an email address.

    glad it's working.

  • I'm watching too, and desperate to hear concrete details about subscriptions. I've seen them mentioned here and there.

hope they have a solution. for virgin customers too.

  • Wondered what Michael Owen did at Goodwood for a second there

  • Wait wait wait, so claire balding is presenting 2 channels at once>

  • @seenituk Weird, part of @BTSport launch show includes Clare Balding clutching a C4 racing mic. Good of C4!

    how odd.

  • tennis courts? Well you must be talking about your moto gp coverage, jake.

  • odd buffering on this app, it doesn't fall behind it just skips content.

Lots of skipping in the ipad app here - flawless on the web stream but a good two or three minutes behind there.

  • timed the difference between freeview and ipad streams at 50 seconds. seems about average.

  • Lots of skipping in the ipad app here - flawless on the web stream but a good two or three minutes behind there.

silverlight buffering is probably more traditional. never seen a stream jump like the ipad is doing right now.

  • Lots of skipping in the ipad app here - flawless on the web stream but a good two or three minutes behind there.

I saw flawless - there's no skipping but the quality has dropped a bit.

  • app stream just stopped too. the weakest link in the streaming chain, no question.

  • app stream just stopped too. the weakest link in the streaming chain, no question.

    Mine too

  • hope they have a solution. for virgin customers too.

I know I'm a broken record on this, but I'm amazed they've not given people a pay-for option when it's not completely free for all. I know they want people to use BT Broadband, but they won't get everyone but it's another revenue stream.

biggest subscriber base is apparently sky satellite. so they're not adverse to competitor platforms.

i wonder if they just ran out of time.

  • Lots of skipping in the ipad app here - flawless on the web stream but a good two or three minutes behind there.

I timed the gap out of the last ad break. iPad was 1m50s ahead of web, so with your 50secs to Freeview that's 2m40s behind TV.

  • i wonder if they just ran out of time.

worth noting that their forums are full of complaints from people with BT youview boxes not having any access. that's a BT box, funded and promoted by BT, yet even that doesn't get support on day one.

  • I timed the gap out of the last ad break. iPad was 1m50s ahead of web, so with your 50secs to Freeview that's 2m40s behind TV.

holy cow. that's the most delayed stream i've ever heard of.

  • Oh cool, james richardson. I like him.

  • i am going to watch sooooooo much sport. every show sounds ace.

  • Mr Marcotti has a Paul Robeson twitter avatar so it's very confusing seeing him there

  • danny baker!

  • baker and kelly have a show? that'll be fun!

  • biggest subscriber base is apparently sky satellite. so they're not adverse to competitor platforms.

In a way that doesn't surprise me as people who like a lot of sport will likely have Sky or Virgin already, and Sky is bigger. I wonder if Freeview will catch up and overtake over time.

  • phew, hand drum communication. I was worried

  • under 5 impressions of footballers for profiles is an amazing idea.

  • In a way that doesn't surprise me as people who like a lot of sport will likely have Sky or Virgin already, and Sky is bigger. I wonder if Freeview will catch up and overtake over time.

depends what you call freeview i guess? i think IPTV is the future and even Sky are moving to sport over the internet with their day pass.

  • under 5 impressions of footballers for profiles is an amazing idea.

    ♥ ♥

  • cal!

  • yaaay for indy car being recognised.

  • i NEEEEEED that floor of lights.

  • worth noting that their forums are full of complaints from people with BT youview boxes not having any access. that's a BT box, funded and promoted by BT, yet even that doesn't get support on day one.

Now that is odd. Wonder if they didn't know about ordering it?

depends what you call freeview i guess? i think IPTV is the future and even Sky are moving to sport over the internet with their day pass.

I thought they were still on old-style Freeview if you had the right viewing card?

  • Now that is odd. Wonder if they didn't know about ordering it?

i think that the firmware either hasn't been released, or isn't finished if it has been.

I thought they were still on old-style Freeview if you had the right viewing card?

not the HD channels? or do i have that wrong. I thought freeview ran out of bandwidth,

  • I may write to them formally to ask why subscriptions aren't an option and of they plan to change it. Some people just don't have the full range of options. What's the deal with Bt Vision? How do you get it/ is it any good?

  • I may write to them formally to ask why subscriptions aren't an option and of they plan to change it. Some people just don't have the full range of options. What's the deal with Bt Vision? How do you get it/ is it any good?

you must have BT broadband. that's about the only catch so far as i can tell.

  • mohawk dude clearly not interested in being there.

  • not the HD channels? or do i have that wrong. I thought freeview ran out of bandwidth,

Is HD that big of a deal? I think most people will settle for being able to see their favourite things.

  • I just don't have the courage to watch MotoGP!

  • Is HD that big of a deal? I think most people will settle for being able to see their favourite things.

    don't know.

it is a massive deal to me, so i'm backing IPTV, which effectively has limitless throughput. you can have a million channels, which seem way more modern than 50 :)

  • I just don't have the courage to watch MotoGP!

    There's always Indy Car... :)

  • There's always Indy Car... :)

V exited for IndyCar. May even FBFB one one day.

  • V exited for IndyCar. May even FBFB one one day.

    Yay!

Need to make sure I get you a thread ready for that :)

  • Evening all. As a Virgin customer I won't be partaking in much of this in the near future (unless they've already solved that).

  • That was awkward

  • @robcollingridge @BTSport goes live on my @YouView box in crystal clear HD over IP Multicast. Life just got better :-)

    #amen

  • I just don't have the courage to watch MotoGP!

    They're a bit crazy :)

  • it is a massive deal to me, so i'm backing IPTV, which effectively has limitless throughput. you can have a million channels, which seem way more modern than 50 :)

It should be the solution to both: quantity AND quality.

  • It should be the solution to both: quantity AND quality.

indeed. it'll be much better when you can record and rewind IP channels too. right now they're inferior to over the air content in that department, but that should be solved by the end of the year.

  • Evening all. As a Virgin customer I won't be partaking in much of this in the near future (unless they've already solved that).

aww. apparently still in discussions. rich don't wanna pay.

  • ally mccoist, now they just need to go and get matt dawson from the studio and we can have question of bt sport

  • when sky launched their f1 channel i assumed it would be like this. i think sky have got to up their game after seeing this.

  • I like how they have to have scottish people do the scottish stuff

  • aww. apparently still in discussions. rich don't wanna pay.

...Then he runs the risk of customers moving to a platform where they can get everything. (I do not fall into that category right now.)

  • OK, doing my ten-minute catchup again. Yes, For me, HD is a big deal. Massive difference in quality So Bt Vision not a great solution. Youview? What's the score with that?

  • There's loads of sport on this channel, there's almost more than on Sky Sports. Certainly better than some of what Sky show...

  • OK, doing my ten-minute catchup again. Yes, For me, HD is a big deal. Massive difference in quality So Bt Vision not a great solution. Youview? What's the score with that?

three channels are in HD on youview today. BT Sport 1, 2 and ESPN. others inc. eurosport and discovery are currently SD only. assume that'll change though.

  • david james' hair seems is still scaring me

  • OK, but for Youview you only need the box, right? No provider lock-ins? How do you do things like activate your Eurosport sub on Youview?

  • three channels are in HD on youview today. BT Sport 1, 2 and ESPN. others inc. eurosport and discovery are currently SD only. assume that'll change though.

it's actually better to get eurosport through their own app at the moment, as that's HD quality and cheap.

  • Looking forward to seeing how BT do things. Hopefully cause some competition and make it better for us viewers. Nice to have Indycar on and had forgot about DTM too. Loads of WTA tennis too :)

  • Looking forward to seeing how BT do things. Hopefully cause some competition and make it better for us viewers. Nice to have Indycar on and had forgot about DTM too. Loads of WTA tennis too :)

21 tennis tournaments live on there, very cool.

  • OK, but for Youview you only need the box, right? No provider lock-ins? How do you do things like activate your Eurosport sub on Youview?

eurosport on youview is only available if BT is your broadband provider. so the lock in is at the cabinet level down the road, rather than the box in your house.

  • Cool, how do you get Bt Sort through Youview?

  • Looking forward to seeing how BT do things. Hopefully cause some competition and make it better for us viewers. Nice to have Indycar on and had forgot about DTM too. Loads of WTA tennis too :)

    sooooo much sport :)

  • you know eddie jordans just going to wander in interrupting everyone in a moment

  • Cool, how do you get Bt Sort through Youview?

Call BT or go through their website. Free if you have broadband, I think £12 if not?

  • Indeed, be great to see tournaments outside of the slams! How's the wrist btw?

  • Indeed, be great to see tournaments outside of the slams! How's the wrist btw?

Sore but OK thanks. Gonna get me a nice cast tomorrow at the fracture clinic :)

  • BT are out-Skying Sky right now in presentation approach and in amount of sport. This is what Sky Sports did 20-25 years ago, though I'd argue theirs was the bigger change. BT is moving it on again.

What happens at the next round of bidding in a few years time? Expect Sky to fight back..

  • Not watching, but are they still sticking with a live audience for the football matches idea?

  • Oh they just split. :)

I'm on BT Sport 2 - Craig walked away with a camera and Jake carried on talking to the other one.

  • Got to nip to the shop, will test our their live coverage in a little while.

  • Sky will fight back but it's either try and beat BT out of the game or try and offer better value i suppose

  • I can hear background notice. It's quite annoying.

  • Not watching, but are they still sticking with a live audience for the football matches idea?

there's a live audience there. how will that work for a match?

  • there's a live audience there. how will that work for a match?

I'm not sure, I could swear I read somewhere they would have a live audience for it, but frankly if anything is going to put me off...

To be honest, I don't care much about the presenters and the style because I simply don't bother with that for anything anymore (apart from James Richardson, love James Richardson, and probably the obligation to watch Lawrence Dallaglio). As long as the sport runs seamlessly and the commentators aren't too annoying (or mundane, Mr Owen), it can do whatever it wants.

  • interesting, just hit a "maximum number of concurrent streams" error.

wasn't actually running any at the time. wonder what the count is?

  • wasn't actually running any at the time. wonder what the count is?

    Max 2 permitted

  • Turns out Youview also requires BT. Looks like I'm locked out of BT Sport :-(

  • Turns out Youview also requires BT. Looks like I'm locked out of BT Sport :-(

    depends what you mean.

youview is an open platform, you can get youview via talk talk for example, but obviously you won't get bt sport that way.

daft question, but can't you just switch to BT broadband?

  • Max 2 permitted

must've not disconnected previous streams properly. that could be annoying.

  • switched to a bit of rugby. no interest in it, just like the options :)

Is there such a thing? ;)

ask me again in a month...

That is when the NFL will be back :D

  • Do we really need to see the opening ceremony for a pre-season tournament?

  • Do we really need to see the opening ceremony for a pre-season tournament?

i can imagine they're a bit short on content. especially replays!

  • some odd error messages popping up.

    corrupt h264 data encountered

I have it, but I'm not the account holder. She lives in Cambodia. She wouldn't want the hassle.

i have no solution to that one :)

This is why I don't want to be too harsh on suzi. Jake's ability to present sets an unreal level of expectation because he's so good at it.

there's no excuse for that man ever having had a career in tv :)

  • Didn't know BT Sport started today or that it was live here.

I need to investigate what they are showing because Sky today have removed ESPN America which was the channel that showed baseball

The biggest disgrace is that there is no more ESPN Classic.
