There are also rumours that there is a certain amount of friction inside Mercedes GP as the data of the two cars is not being shared as it is in other teams

They won two championships a few times while the second driver was hamstrung. It's how they operate

He was threatened with being fired.

What people remember is Austria 2002 but they forget Austria the previous season. In 2001 Rubens was running second when he got the call to give up the position. After the press had a go after the race Ferrari said they would never ask him to give up a win. Then the next season they did exactly that.

    Question.

Tyres are locked in Q3 for the race, but what happens if Q3 is wet and the race dry, or the other way around?

  • 12/03/2010 at 09:40:52 #363 Alianora La Canta said

I don't think Force India were quite expecting that P1 from Sutil - how else can you explain why @clubforce decided the timing screen absolutely had to be photographed and displayed to us (when presumably we can see how they did using our usual information sources?)

    Correct: http://www.aut…s/article.php/id/2674 (paywall)

Of course if it's wet, all bets are off. A wet qualifying and/or a wet start means that the rule about using the same tyres does not apply. And more importantly, neither does the rule that says you must use two types of tyres.

In my case, it's very similar to last year, except that some of the sites I use have changed. I'm currently doing live commenting for here, two fora and Twitter in practise sessions. I also have Autosport, my blog's "quick links panel" and at least one spare tab in the window covering the top 2/3 of the screen.

The other 1/3 is shared between BBC's live streaming and Live Timing... ...in theory.

For qualifying and the race, I'll be watching on the TV downstairs with my folder, book and note paper.

In my case, no. I'm the sort of person who found plenty of time in 1996 to read books during the race coverage (probably the only reason I didn't do it earlier was because in 1993-1995, I was still struggling to understand some of what was going on). I stated note-taking in 2001, initially for posterity and later to make sure I had my facts right when discussing races with people on the internet. Since 1996, there's only been one race where I haven't read a book or magazine in the coverage and since 2001, I've taken notes for every race I've watched.

It is unlikely that I will ever stop note-taking or reading during motorsport coverage because the reading/writing part of my brain demands something to do even when the listening/watching parts are engaged.

Watching the Classic GP's this week, I noted that pretty much all of them are included for race action, but not necessarily because of overtaking. Maybe stuff will happen this year? I mean, with slow cars, lapping traffic is going to be interesting and the strategy calls too...

Vettels brake failiure today is interesting in light of their aggressive calliper positioning (F1Technical) which other teams have avoided due to cooling issues.

sounds the heat could be causing problems not spotted in wet testing?

It seems strange he decided to include it this season given all we have heard about increased strain on the brakes

I guess it depends on how the air feeds into the wheels.

Will the fact the wheels are smaller put more strain on them?

obviously their is more weight from the fuel

It should make the airflow through the wheel for cooling better I would have thought. The extra fuel weight will make the brakes work a lot harder. The limit to braking power is the grip between the tyres and the road so a smaller contact patch means longer braking distances

Last time I remember McLaren having something banned, was their 3rd pedal braking system in 1998. Even though it's not an external moveable aero device, it performs the same function as one.
