Joe extends the season just a little bit longer as he covers the week's important topics, including the shenanigans at Toyota, BMW and Renault, the long term view at Williams and a free Prius.

Additionally we talk knocking Gino, punching Ron and solving the problem of the Ferrari roof.

As ever, all of this and very much more, in this episode of An Aside With Joe.

Another great show. I think in this episode more than any the thing that's struck me most whilst he's been talking is that he's just a normal guy, doing a job that he loves, and fran(c)kly i hope he keeps going for as long as it stays that way.

Joe was right about the Gino bashing.
The Dutch F1 presenter (15 year veteran) said this of him:
Ah Gino, job title: Annoying little s..t
Job description: Walking through the paddock as wide as possible and stepping on everybodies toes.
But then, he works for Ferrari and I don't.
    Nice description I think.

I was at the quiz night in question (Belgian GP 2007), and I distinctly remember not only being beaten to the Prius by Joe, but also that the prize was a three-year lend, not outright ownership.

I'm always very suspicious of people who turn up on web forums, etc, and promulgate 'inside info' from behind the veil of a false name. What's in it for them, apart from a peculiar form of self-aggrandisement?

He worked at Super Aguri, then when Aguri went bust went to Honda, then when Honda went bust he went to Toyota...

Wouldn't be surprised to find he was poached by BMW at some stage mid season.

It's an odd thing, really. But FWIW, he has been accurate more often than not. Perhaps, as his name implies, he just likes getting the scoop?

has he/she though? go back through the tweets and tell me which were both accurate and a scoop?

of 1,079 tweets, how many made any difference to our lives at all?

what's really interesting to me from this aside conversation. is that we're all refreshing twitter hoping to find some news from a reliable source, yet joe knew 3 whole days before twitter exploded with toyota echoes.

the real-time web is fast, but joe is faster.

Good point. But ultimately, Joe didn't break the news first (which was the right thing to do given the context). It seemed to come out on Twitter first.

it didn't quite. it was published by a japanese publication first, then translated and propagated via twitter.

Joe's 'Massive Assumption' comment was too subtle for me - I only just listened to the Aside today and checked out the comment over the weekend - because his replies don't thread together I assumed he was talking about Villeneuve...

I thought the most telling of Joe's comments was the disconnect from what Mr C thought Joe was going to say and what Joe actually said.

Twitter is desperate to be first (or rather those on it). To the extent that people make things up.

But what Joe is doing, is what we want, the first to be able to explain what it means.

i hadn't thought about that at all before. i've just been interested in those who are right, rather than those who are first.

if anything though, joe's point highlights the limitation of 140 characters. you can't explain much with that limitation.

For as long as there have been interweb BBs there have been people who like to stir the pot. I know of someone who invested a great deal of time building up the trust of people on Star Wars forums about 12 years ago so that he could spread abject misinformation and get them all excited over nothing.
