Welcome along to the first ever Sidepodfilmclub evening. As there is no live show this week, we didn't want to leave you without entertainment, and thought it would be fun to watch a film together. Although we have done a few small trials of live commenting TV shows in the daily threads, this is the first time we are trying to be organised about something. It's going to be brilliant.

We've chosen a motorsport related film for the evening, although I'm afraid I have to admit it does involve NASCAR. It seems to have quite a few fans in the comments, though, who have been quoting the film all week since we first suggested this idea. Here's some more information about the film:

Stars: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gary Cole, Michael Clarke Duncan
Director: Adam McKay
Duration: 1:47:55

The best place to join us for this evening's event is the Live Commenting Live... Thing. We have embedded a clock set to London time, and when it hits 20:00, everybody needs to start their engines films. I imagine we should also take bets on how far apart we will be by the end as well.

Once we're done, let us know your thoughts, maybe even give it a Sidepodfilmrating, which we can compile over on the wiki.

I'm really looking forward to sharing this film with you, as neither Mr C nor myself have seen it before.

Might be best to play it then press pause as soon as it loads if your player is slo so you wont be 5-6 seconds behind?

I have paused it at the point just before the columbia symbol appears.

I guess we should all start there as different versions will have different pre film waning titles?

Hehehe, we'll have to see how it goes.

I don't anticipate us being in sync the entire way through at all. It's more about the conversation the film generates, rather than being frame for frame exact.

worked for me too! After complaining about the fact its wireless I noticed my controller was actually charging so it was a simple case of follow the cable and find it hiding under the bed.

part of the issue is that uk/pal versions run 5 frames a faster than the us versions. so even the same film may finish earlier depending on where you bought it.

no. pal runs at 25 fps. ntsc runs at 30 fps. when films get converted for our viewing they run fractionally quicker. so over the course of a film, you've gained about a minute.

so we're closer to how it looks in the movies. however, DVD's are mostly 30fps i believe.

Those numbers don't add up. The 30 fps is 20% quicker which is about 18 minutes over the course of a minute

5 out of 30 is 20% more than 25. So you in effect 1 second at the faster speed takes 1.2 seconds at the slower speed
