Thankfully, the German action gets underway just in time to distract us from all things FIA and FOTA, and it is to Free Practice 1 that we turn for a fresh glimpse of the cars. We haven't seen them for weeks!
Weather Update
It looks as though Friday is supposed to see rain at the Nurburgring that could continue through Saturday and brighten up by Sunday. This may mean a lack of running today, though.
One to Watch
The McLaren boys, as Hamilton has suggested that the team are taking steps forward all the time, and are close to finding out the root cause of their problem. Knowing the problem and fixing it, though, are two very different things.
Predictions Please
Will the weather adversely affect the running today? Will we get away with no mention of politics? Will any German drivers go for broke in front of the crowds? For that matter, will their be any crowds?

I will be travelling home from work while FP1 is on, so I will miss most of it.
If Lewis cannot 'go', then I hope Mark Webber can outpace Seb Vettel for the win.
Webber for the Win, with Seb on the podium, Force India for a point and Lewis for Q3.
I've just found a major problem with LCLT. None of the boxes move or re-size, so I can either read or write a comment, but not both simultaneously.
I will be missing FP2, so I'm hoping FP1 isn't too dull...

I have to admit I haven't tried re-sizing or moving the boxes before - I simply did a load test and trusted the features would work as reported by others. One day I'll learn not to do that...

It always does that. There are normally a couple of links. Last race I was sat waiting for a feed to start on a page that had the stuff from the race before on it.....
The easiest way seems to go Home -> Sport -> Formula 1 -> Live rather than rely on anything else.

Force India have some minor tweaks here, but the main upgrade they intended to bring (KERS) isn't ready.
No . It's on the Toyota nose holding on Red Bull-esque bits. It looked like see through blue tape like you get covering sheets of Lexan

They're still investigating KERS, but concentrating more on the aero side due to the big improvements they're getting from it.

Geoff Willis and Jorg Zander have both left equivalent positions in top teams. This is quite strange and hints at a seismic shift in the way F1 teams work.

Buemi did an installation lap and, I think, has concluded that it's still too greasy to learn anything. Meanwhile, dark grey clouds lean heavily on the surface of the sky.

Bridgestone translator - FIA told us to have non-consecutive tyres, the teams didn't like it and we just listen to whoever is in charge at the time
Mine's fine, but that may be because my speakers are heavily biased towards treble.
Anthony's just complained about the way the Bridgestone engineer is talking.
This guy is talking so much bull. Because there is more downforce than expected some of the tyres they have supplied have been too hard to work. That's a bit of inverse logic

No. They were planning on using KERS this race, but then opted to focus more on aero. There definitely won't be any for the next two races for them, and possibly not at all this season.

Yes. I remember Nigel Roebuck posted a column once where he talked about the lack of honesty in these situations. The example he gave was of a car that had withdrawn because of an oil leak. One ofthe mechanics showed him where the oil was leaking from. There was a hole in the engine he could put his fist in and according to the mechanic the main reason the oil was leaking was because the engine had gone off like a hand grenade.

just caught the end of FP, seemed alright.
This weekend will be interesting to see if F1 has redeamed itself in my head from all the politics.
That's the problem with F1 - it's 310 days of politics interspersed with just 50 days of racing
He was quick about 4 years ago, then he moved to ferrari 2 years ago, and mclaren gave him the world champiionship as a going away present.
Since then he has given up on f1 and concentrated more on hats.
I cant see a problem?

In the theres been F1 politics that we can laugh about, stuff that we know will get sorted out. That is exactly it. The normal inter-sport squabbling and bickering is fine, interesting even. But I can't find any reason to get excited about a sport that has no future, and that is the point they are very quickly getting to.

I like lots of other drivers but Mika was my first favourite driver, and then Kimi was, not because he was Finnish, but because I just liked his drive + attitude. It sort of grew from there.

I'm not getting married - my brother is. Family duty, however, requires that I turn up - even if I miss the end/all of (delete as appropriate) the second practise session.
Blowing up F1, as the current psuedopolitical mess threatens to do, is not a small issue.
Presumably he's a blank canvas on which any future can be painted. Sometimes the dream is sweeter than the reality.

not as much as he once did. He moves from favourite into 'soft spot because ONCE was at McLaren but now is at the enemy so can't actually like him' zone.
McLaren wanted Rosberg but he (or his father) thought that was a bad career move

He follows F1 in a casual sort of way, but his fiancé doesn't - and she did the organising of the wedding, from what I gather. They did at least compromise by having the wedding on Friday and not the weekend (which is more traditional).
