With both Goodwood and Wimbledon over and done with, it's time to regroup and turn our attention back to Formula 1. Sadly, there is little going on at the moment, but things should be ramping up towards the German Grand Prix as the week progresses. Meanwhile, here are some things we're talking about (and it's all self promotion today):

  • We're in the midst of my latest mini series now, with five episodes under our belts. Yesterday's episode focused on the process of how an accident is dealt with, including notes on the Safety Car and on the different types of flags.
  • We also spent some time yesterday rehearsing things and improving some of the technology we use to produce live shows. We went live for some of the process, and it can be replayed here, but don't panic, there is nothing major in there if you missed it. If you've got a spare two hours, though, feel free to listen to us muddle our way through.
  • During yesterday's show, to pass some of the time, we came up with a game where you simply have to sum up each driver in three words. A good example from Steven about Vettel: "Ain’t no Schumi." And I came up with "Dangerous Whilst Pitting" for Nakajima. Have a think and see what you can come up with you.

That'll do it for now. Please feel free to discuss your adventures, if you were out and about this weekend, and discuss anything on your mind if you weren't. I'll see you in the comments.

it doesn't make any sense though? renault have had an upgrade and they're clearly as competitive as the mercedes.

unless renault are planning to pull their engines from the grid, i can't seem what the advantage is?

Well originally it was all to do with Renault looking likely to pull out of F1 and leaving Red Bull with little option. At the time (back in April), KERS looked to be mandatory for 2010 and Mercedes seems to have produced the best recovery system on the grid at the moment.

But things have changed since the news first picked up momentum. I doubt Renault are going to pull the plug on F1 so the only thing I can see benefiting Mercedes is a tie-in with Vettel. There's probably a technical advantage as well, but from what I can gather, the Renault engine's fuel comsumption is the lowest of all the engines at the moment - so good for next season's fuel ban?

Very true. Besides your pictures, in fact is even scary when you see Bruno´s mother talking — and even the look — is like Ayrton´s. Leonardo Senna — the other Ayrton´s brother — is a good clue of how Ayrton would look if alive:

In the extremely unlikely event that you are still stuck to the chair (and haven't, for instance, loaded it and yourself onto a lorry to go home) I'd kneel down, trace the path of the elastic ring and lift whichever corner of the chair is causing the problem. Use leverage if necessary and if queried, claim the chair is faulty.

In the more likely event that you have solved the problem a very long time ago, feel free to laugh.

Relentless, I've found, is Red Bull with a slightly fruity twist. Plus it's in a bigger quantity than the biggest RB and even then still cheaper.

Yeah, noone could run them though because of the testing ban,

and the fact the other teams personnel are very nosey in the batching paddock was probably a deterrent before that!

I can't believe they'd do that, surely they'd have a chassis that isn't down for more races. I think normally the first chassis or two of the year are 'retired' about now.

depends on how wealthy the team is. they keep as many parts on the car as they can, and seeing as they haven't crashed or damaged it badly... it's surely possible?

    WOW!

Why such a small engine? And why Le Mans coupes?

1 thing i did lean this weekend is that the Pug 908 was a lot tinyer than i expected!

I'm guessing he's thinking of fuel efficiency going forward into a future with not as much oil as now, and LM coupes just look cool.

Yes, bernie, with the German GP approaching it was most definitely a smart choice of words, yeeeesh... the man would be perfect with NASCAR, what with never doing things right...

Nope. I was there with the 'company' ;)

Murray also said he was disappointed with the weight of the McLaren F1. BMW's engine was much heavier than the spec was for, but produced 100bhp more than the spec required - so there was a small compromise.

    Superb, sir :-)

not necessarily the formula... although I can see it would work

    Certainly sounded interesting.

Why such a small engine? And why Le Mans coupes?

Small engines for maximum efficiency. He was even suggesting that 4 pots could be used but that V6's would be likely.

The Coupe's for maximum aero efficiency and survivability - You'd be looking at 200mph + up Eau Rouge! Look at Villeneuve and Zonta for what can go wrong there

You managed to bear that thing with only fingers in your ears?!? I barely managed with ear defenders (and that was after I had to put them on very hurridly because I arrived back at the stand just as the Typhoon went over the stand behind me and went into full reheat!)

I suspect the small turbo engine are a given. Coupes? nup, can't see it, but I agree with ground effect. Murray is one smart guy, Just look at the MP4.

To give it a date - look at the Toyota GT1 Le Mans racer - that era.

What a car that was anyway. Always wanted the road car version of it.

Show cars - Most likely missing major components
Life expired parts for the remainder
Not exactly exemplary race histories ;)
    Not exactly classic racing cars...

Sounds a little on the low side, but pretty close.

Only one I'd be interested in is the second one. Most interesting history - 14 races and a podium in the hands of a former world champion.

Don't have the one I'd want though. The original Lucky Strike/555 colourscheme. I think I'm the only one who liked that one. :D

I am determined to use one of the Judds one day and put it in a Mk1 Transit. ;)
