Fantasy Racing 2009

Published

By Mr. C.

After the unbelievable job everyone in the Fantasy Racers league did last year, we're doing it again in 2009.

This time out we're defending champions. No longer will the rookie tag wash, we're professionals now and we know what we're doing... unless you didn't enter last year, in which case, you may be excused.

Signup

As before, the details you need to sign in to the league are as follows:

Website Fantasy Racers
League Number 6
Password franck

Yup, that's Franck with a 'c', and because it caused no confusion whatsoever last year, so why should it this time around?

If you haven't done so already you'll need to create an account, which can be done so by selecting the Register option. It's free to join, but a donation will see you upgraded to Preferential status allowing you to hide your strategies from other players.

Rule Changes

As if to mimic Formula 1 yet further, the rules have been slightly tweaked in '09 in order to provide closer racing. Of note, you begin with a 40m starting budget, but drivers prices fluctuate based on popularity amongst all competitors in the game. The challenge will be to buy low and sell high and this should add an extra dimension to proceedings.

While Away the Hours

As mentioned, last year the Sidepodcast community brought home the award for Top Private League, and Jordan led us home with string of fantastic point hauls.

The game provided endless hours of entertainment, and we're hoping to spend even more time on it this year. We highly recommend everybody signs up as early as possible and as ever, please let us know your teams in the comments and we look forward to racing against you all season.

speaking of other things i don't like... over christmas i'd forgotten how bad the cars looked, seeing this pic on FR reminded me.

Fantasy Sports must be pessimistic about the ex-Honda team's chances of finding a buyer, because there's not even a TBC for Jenson's team-mate either...

The money doesn't get replenished, but you do get to keep your drivers for the whole year.

If you want to change a driver, you'll get the 'current market value' back when you get rid of them. So if they do badly, you're not likely to get back as much as you originally paid for them.

They're in the database, just not showing right now. It wouldn't be right to let people pick drivers for a team that don't currently have the means to get on the grid.

I think Danny did an excellent job with running FR last year. Results were processed as quickly and as efficiently as possible after each race and any queries I had were answered almost immediately.

So with that in mind, I reckon it would be good if any of us could donate whatever amount in appreciation. To put it into context, Autosport charge £10 for their rubbish effort. I'm not saying donate that much (sure Danny would be happy if you did!!!) but even if it's a quid I think that's great value for money for the entertainment value over the course of the season.

Yep. You get whatever the driver's value is at that time. So last season if you picked Vettel at the start of the season and 'sold' him after Monza you could have made a million or two in profit.

    Hi All!

New to sidepodcast but liking the look of what I see! Thought I'd give this fantasy racers a go! Called my team Rookie Racers which is more indicative of my experience than the drivers I've picked!

Hopefully pick up some points for the sidepodcast league, apparently we've got a title to defend?!?!

    Later, Chris

How could I resist something like this? :D I can't wait for it all to begin again, I miss the excitement of it all and this league is a big bonus to that. Look out for Dobar Racing, it'll be coming up in your mirrors quite quickly, I hope!

Well, I was forced to change my Team's name from Jordan F1 to what is is currently....

Sort of the virtual online equalivalent of peeling of the Number "2" of a 1979 Ferrrari #12 that should have happened has the two ferrari actually raced each other at Monza that year...

    Stupid Gentlemen's agreements....

2008 Sidepodcastland Champ(ions) Jordan F1 does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

    Hi sidepodcasters,

I loved Ross Brawn's decision of creating his own (Brawn GP) team. I went to Fantasy Racers and did the same -- "Kobito Racing" has joined Sidepodcast league.

Looking forward to an exciting season,

    best regards,

    Kobito
