We've got three drivers gearing up for their home race, and all wanting to do well. Only two drivers are battling for the championship, but many others want to consolidate their positions or rise up if they can. Plus, David Coulthard and Sebastian Vettel will both be racing for the last time in their teams.

the last preview of the year? awww.
but this seemed like only yesterday:
http://www.sid...st-australia-preview/
To be fair, I wasn't there yesterday.
It actually does! How far we've come since then...
Really? It seems like years ago to me. So much amazing stuff has happened, both on track and on Sidepodcast :)
Special livery for DC?
just seems to have gone so quickly. felt like things were ticking along nicely until about silverstone, after which every fia press release was a controversial one, and it's been non-stop ever since.
oooh, nice.
It's the classic mix of fast and slow as far as I can tell. If I look back I think "gosh where has the year gone". And then I think what has happened this year and I start listing all of the things and I can't quite believe that all of them have happened in a year. It's been a bit crazy!
Flippin' season always ends too early! And just when we were starting to have fun.
I really really hope DC has a good race. And just to be controversial, GO Massa, cos you know he's all cute and stuff.
Dom, where'd you get that? I assume it was you that uploaded it. I'm very intrigued by this, damn tomorrow only being Thursday. v_v
I'm surprised with it being Red Bull, they didn't show all his crashes like they did with faces last year.
Remembering the season, first listened to the show at Turkey (when I first heard me, I thought he was some ravenous loony that only turned up when he could be bothered :D), came onto sidepodcast.com at Canada, sent my first e-mail before Valencia and aired my voice just last week.
It has flew.
hehe. never really thought about him like that. what's the attraction?
:D
damn shame they had to leave the pool in europe.
wha?
that's pretty cool. my vitals:
- first listened dec. 2006
- sent first email jan. 2007
- aired my voice on day one.
okay, may not work for me. anyone else?
Why on earth did you send yourself an e-mail?
Yeah, I was young(er)
I dropioed it. ;)
The piccy is from this blog, which i found courtesy of an F1 Fanatic comment.
This is going to end up in the mod queue, isn't it?
He's no Kimi or JV don't get me wrong, but he's just got one of those faces where you wanna grab his cheeks and give them a squeeze.
Other than that I do geniunely hope he somehow manages to walk away with the title. I guess you can put me in the I don't like Lewis camp.
Oooh, i escaped!
i didn't, i sent christine one.
:D
yippee :)
f1around is becken's site. quality blog.
Doesn't that revolve around to you reading it still?
jv? interesting.
is there a list per chance?
ooh, that reminds me... a quick plug for dan's latest article:
http://www.f1-...t/case-massa-champion
naah. as you can probably tell, when christine reads emails out on the show, it's news to me.
hence why i mistook scott speed for jeff :)
If Nick Heidfeld's on it, then go me, cos someone said I look like Heidfeld.
Without the beard obviously.
But you still listen to them live.
I'm getting myself into a little hole here aren't I.
Yes, that proves you are rubbish at improvisation.
give it time :)
even that is debatable.
Erm... okay.
- first listened apr. 2007
- sent first email in the future...
- aired my voice in the future...
Still not working, i'm afraid. Come back to me in a few weeks...
I love Nick! Not that I'm suggesting there is a list *coughs*ofcoursethereis*coughs* You guys have the pit girls we get to look at the drivers.
And yes JV, another guy who had a great rookie year. And he wears glasses.
How can you look like Nick without the beard?
It's like saying you look like DC without the chin...
hmm, i had no idea.
Its probably a lot easier to look like Nick without the beard than DC without the chin.
I'm sure its in the rule book.
i can't believe i overlooked it.
It seems thats happened alot lately. :p
ouch!
i have a feeling christine's going to enjoy this thread in the morning.
Looking like Nick without the beard is like looking like Nick in 2003 (look for photos of him at Sauber and you'll see what I mean). Perfectly feasible.
Looking like DC without the chin means looking generally rectangular.
- first listened jan 2007
- sent first email erm... May 2008
- aired my voice May 2008
yay, perfect :)
hold on a sec, jan 2007? that's mighty impressive lou, not sure i knew that?
yeah Jan 2007. took me almost a year to star visiting the blog and stuff. i was thinking about when i first listened and i remembered it was early Jan 2007 when i went for a weekend in France. It was a long journey and a friend had introduced me to podcasts. I listened to a bunch of f1 podcasts and decided that sidepodcast sounded better, promptly downloaded all that had been released up to then and listened to them on my journey :) have been subscribed ever since. so yeah jan 2007 :) not sure i've ever said when exactly cause i hadn't really thought about it till the other day.
Special shout out to Rubber Goat AKA Gavin Brown
Hope your birthday was kickin' and the hangover kind to you
Unfortunately, I was was working late shift for mine but enjoyed some Vino and treats at home afterwards
I pity the weekend, here I come :D
in january '07 we didn't even have 100 listeners, so you really were in there early.
did i miss something, or did i forget? sorry rubbergoat, hope you had a good one.
heck of a weekend to celebrate :)
aww that may have just made my day, being in the first 100 listeners :) you were actually the first podcast i subscribed too as well :)
Gavin and I shared a birthday yesterday. I'm not able to celebrate until Sat but raised a glass to a fellow Scorpio tonight.
Sunday will be a foggy day for me so I cannot be entirely responsible for my lack of lucidity from Saturday afternoon and until dawn Monday
You have been warned ;)
- first listened - Jan. 2007
- sent first email - Sept. 2008
- aired my voice - Sept. 2008
I'll add one more:
- first commented - Jul. 2007, thereabouts.
Not bad, not bad at all... :)
-first listened - end 2007/start 2008
-sent first email - mid year I guess. took me a while :)
-aired my voice - Sunday! sidepodpanel 2.
Happy Birthday guys :)
Good point Journeyer!
- first listened - September 2007
- sent first email - August, 2008
- aired my voice - August, 2008
- first commented - April, 2007
Am I going to be the only person to have commented before I listened to the podcast I wonder.
Looking back to find the first podcast I listened to I found it by looking on f1fanatic because I knew Keith had been on that episode. Both F1Fanatic and Sidepodcast only had only 4 comments each for the posts talking about the podcast. Neither site ever sees posts that quiet any more!
Yup happy birthday!
Amen to that. :) Goes to show that hard work from the Collantines and Blachfords of F1 DOES reap rewards. :)
Wow. That's weird. Why is my comment in the spammer? With not a link in sight? That's very odd, to say the list.
This typo made me laugh a lot just now!
i have a vague recollection that clive from f1insight also did that, cause he couldn't get itunes to work on his pc.
that was back in the days before we used to embed a little player on the page (how daft was that?).
i can see it?
another listener from jan 2007? blimey, how did you find the show journeyer?
(and by that i don't mean was it any good, we've already been down that route!)
I found it. Sorry, should have said.
ahhh, i gets so used to talking about you when you're asleep, i forget when you're awake :)
Y'know all this makes me want to go through the archives again.
:D
weather update:
http://drop.io...t/asset/brazilweather
According to windguru, Friday will be dry, Saturday practise will be somewhat wet, qualifying will be drizzly and the race will be moderately wet.
during a season defined by the weather, that seems only fitting :)
True. I'm particularly happy because I think Brazil is augmented more by wet weather than most tracks (OK, it augments Hungary more, but then Hungary's a dull track...)
Hmmm... I think it was through some searching. I did a bit of listening, but I only really started listening regularly when Keith guested on your show. Again, that January 2007 date is an estimate... give or take a couple of months. :)
you did well sir.
when i get time, i'll have to dig back through some old stats and see at what point we managed to jump past a 100 listeners. unless christine can remember? seemed to take a forever though.
fif1 ftw?
(there may be one to many abbreviations in that sentence).
Unfortunately, I'm not a stataholic like you are, and if I did know, the chances of me being able to remember are quite small.
However, I know that it seemed like we suddenly got more visitors at Christmas. I think we put it down to people giving the gift of the iPod.
it may have been shortly after this:
http://www.sid...2/03/new-and-notable/
Surely not. This is the sport of abbreviations!
I just saw the 3 review on the iTunes page. The two more recent ones are a bit harsh! I wondered how recent they are.
By "bit" I mean "extremely".
I'll go and sort them muppets out.
nah, it's ok. just click on one of the negative commenters names and see which other show's they've reviewed. then click on the name of the second negative commenter and see if you spot a pattern :)
uh-oh ;)
Ah... A bit of rivalry there perhaps!
i cant remember when i first saw them, but i think both were left in reasonably quick succession.
love to know what it was that triggered such a reaction though :)
What a jolly game. It’s a bit like working out who writes/edits their own entry on Wikipedia (TK to name but one!)
TK?
So should I admit this?
I haven't bought F1 Racing for ages (2 years?) But the first one I bought in ages was the current S-h-m-c-er issue.
I enjoyed it (but don't tell me).
ooops.
noo! how disappointing :(
A TV person who at the beginning of the year was the victim of a cruel FIA stunt (when he swiped through the barriers his real name rather than his nom de plume flashed up on the screen).
you're right though that is a fun game, are their any others we ought know about?
strictly off the record of course ;)
Surely JA too? He compliments himself in blog comments, you know. ;)
See what a fellow F1 fan mate of mine done on Photoshop:
http://i135.ph...Lukehmuse/brundle.jpg
Jason Cowley (former ed of the Observer Sports Monthly) for definite.
Also, for greater amusement, look through the history of T Rubython’s entry for the ‘edit war’ between someone who was obviously Rubython and someone who was… someone else.
he does what now?
wow, that really was someone else :)
The other thing that the person of that IP address added at the same time as his real name is on the liablous side!
TK did use his original name before Google tells me. He was interviewed by the telegrah under that name in 2004.
ooopps
babs playing allen? :D
:) :)
fixed :)
it's a rare old place that wikipedia isn't it?
If someone is writing that stuff about you, no wonder you'd wanna go in and change it!
ahaha :D
That's the best cast of all time. :)
that seems more than reasonable to me. are there rules for wikipedia, like you can't write your own profile, but you can correct it or something?
As I always say: you can’t please all of the people all of the time
i didn't mind the article. i didn't think he was front page material, but i guess alex has just proven me wrong.
you can't tell me there wasn't heaps of photoshop used after that shoot though ;)
It’s a free-for-all in that anyone can write or edit anything, but supposedly self-policing in that there are (a) algorithms that detect potentially malicious edits and flag them up; and (b) volunteer admins. But who watches the watchmen?
My favourite Wikipedia moment was when TV theme tune composer Ronnie Hazlehurst died and some enterprising prankster amended his entry to say he’d co-written an S Club 7 hit – a ‘fact’ which appeared in many newspaper obituaries the following day.
I’ll let you know when the photographer’s invoice arrives and I see how much he’s charged for “digital capture/postproduction”
It was just like the old days. Schumacher on the cover. An interview with JV! I felt I was in a time warp ;)
true enough.
we have exactly the same problem here:
http://sidepod...de+to+Hanging+Laundry
who's watching christine?
Well, you've already admitted that you're not.
damnit.
There was a huge stink on there when Jimbo Wales edited his own entry. The fact that everyone can change everything is why it works. Everyone is a watchmen.
The suggested action is to report it to the biographies noticeboard which generally results in an established wikipedia person taking a look. It tends to make the process of getting your article cleaned up much easier. But you don't have to. It's just the most efficient path.
Well to be fair to Christine the article is incredibly accurate! :)
I think it would be quite a challenge to write anything particularly malicious about laundry.
Actually it was just me. I finally got iTunes working, but with the stupid italian instructions, I probably subscribed lots of times :)
And by "stupid italian", i mean "italian being read by a stupid"....
I’ll use it to double-check DOBs, but there’s so much disinformation on there that it isn’t a great deal of use – not all of the disinformation is intentional or malicious, of course, but even if it is unintentional and well-meaning it is disinformation none the less.
you needed instructions for itunes?
I think it might have been the Queen's speech!
It's a great jumping off point but... You have to read the cited articles really. And if there aren't any cited articles then you shouldn't trust it.
Apropos of nothing at all (save that Mrs C has just sent me the link), I feel I must share this. Marina Hyde has rocketed in my estimation. The comments are a must!
www.guardian.c...9/lilyallen-celebrity
That would be my guess but maybe that is because it was the first thing I saw on sidepodcast. I think Clive linked to it but it could have been Alianora.
You'd be surprised what I need instructions for.
Hanging laundry? I've got just the thing...
:)
!!!
People hang laundry nowadays. I thought we put it into some sort of machine like everything else.
I think you're talking about a megablastic dryer there.
Ah yes, them
Also says it's not that he doesn't like hamilton. It's that he doesn't like Ron:
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/71832
That should say Alonso obv
funny, that's exactly how i feel :)
i'm just adding a couple of my own "Trulli Train-isms" onto the Wiki if anyone's interested :P
Maybe Al[on]so will win on Sunday?
blimey, you're asking before seeing fp1?
umm, no, i think it'll be lewis.
Why is everyone going Al[on]so?
Have I missed something?
I doubt it. This race is gonna be all about Ferrari and McLaren. Having said that, Al[on]so podium?
Me was trying to avoid confusion. It clearly hasn't worked...
Al[on]so did seem pretty confident in his preview quotes.
Alonso will most likely snatch 3rd, or accidently hit the back of Hamilton.
You'd think Al[on]so's team, Renualt, would be c[on]centrating on next year, by now.
Oh for the love of bracket.
Who?
Kimi could have a little 'accident' near Hamilton, too.
:D
maybe kovi will? it's not like he could he make his season much worse :)
Imagine Ron's face...
Imagine everyone elses faces.
Apart from those who support McLaren of course.
Oh wow. Another McLaren mutual parting of ways would become a good bet.
Honestly I go and do a days work and its like reading a small novel when I come back.
I think it would be very amusing if Alonso had an 'accident' with Lewis but then thats me.
it's been one of them days ;)
yeah. maybe we need a quiet end to the season?
Your going to still have to have one long season review.
Nah. Go out with a bang not a whimper. But not DC it is his last one after all.
:o
I'll pretend i didn't hear that, shall i?
hehe, that is true.
maybe dc with a flukey podium to finish with?
it was only a suggestion ;)
They should put go-faster stripes on his car to help him.
oooh, is that what they're for?
http://drop.io...dcast/asset/dcstripes
If they really wanted him to have a good last race, they'd put him in a Toro Rosso.
:D
Or maybe just a Mini.
I've just found this after a fruitless search for TK's real name:
http://www.fri...ex.php/Kimi_Raikkonen
"[Kimi] Hails from Finland. Although his birth is believed to have been due to mistake during a genetic experiment designed to extract the charisma out of a young Mika Hakkinen."
Brilliant
hehehe. one with a big can of the nameless energy drink attached to it's rear?
seriously, you don't wanna know.
genius :)
Still going to Alton Towers tomorrow, seem to be going a lot lately :D
I read a bit about BMW Sauber.
Apparantly under obligation to finish 85% of the races :D
I love Wiki its randomly amusing.
Yes, but this is Frickipedia.
My ex-colleagues and I wanted to set up a Wiki of a list of excuses for not coming to work - sickiepedia, but it's already in use for crude jokes.
i wish you hadn't said that. i want to know now...
Here's a clue: first name is shared with a now-defunct F1 team that was active in the early 80s (not Beatrice!)
Lou, just to add, it was run by the guy who's a key part of the Macau GP.
I think that's enough for you to figure it out. :)
