Episode 81 - I Guess the FIA did the Right Thing

Published

Sidepodcast logo

The post-China race podcast in which we discuss all the track happenings, including Hamilton's flawless performance, and the Ferrari switch. We also delve into the mysteries of the FIA, once again.

Intro

It was just a shout out or two on Radio 5live, I'm not moonlighting really.

Good Week / Bad Week

A good week for drivers with Force India's confirmations, and Ferrari's young programme. A bad week for us as we have to contemplate yet another feeder series.

News and Views

France have pulled out of the calendar as well, but it doesn't look like Canada will be returning, and what timely news alongside the Abu Dhabi complex. There just aren't enough pages. Also, we debate the standard engine tender.

Qualifying

Hamilton was super fast, Webber was super smokey, Coulthard was super grumpy, and BMW were super slow.

The Race

Ted News! Plus more about Hamilton's flawless performance, the Ferrari "overtake", and why do Renault think they are now best friends forever with the Italian team? Also Trulli vs Bourdais and Kovalainen's tough day, plus a Fantasy Racers update.

Feedback

One particular email giving us an update on how good Mark Webber really is at karting, plus asking for your feedback on the Fantasy Racers competition.

live was quite terrible wasn't it? my only objection after listening back, was the pace was a little speedy, mostly because we were filled with panic.

it wasn't the worlds most chilled-out podcast. however, we were keeping it real.

so, friday's standardised engine tender is out of the window already then?

    http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/71638

"A raft of cost-cutting measures has been agreed between the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) in a landmark meeting in Geneva, it was announced in a joint statement on Tuesday."

a standard kers unit for 2010/11 would probably mean working on them for '09 is a waste of time right?

  • 21/10/2008 at 18:32:52#41 - Steven Roy said:

This is insane and it sounds like a stitch up. When was anything ever agreed this quickly in F1? The justification for KERS was that the F1 teams would develop it fast due to their natural competitiveness. Now they are going to have a standard KERS what is the point. Williams just bought a KERS company. Are they happy with this? Or are they hoping to get the contract to supply the grid? All we have as a result is push to pass which should be abhorrent to any race fan.

i love the bit at the end that says:

"One source added that the meeting had "historical" significance because it "was the first time the teams had enjoyed such unanimity" in their discussions over the sport's future direction."

yet only two people from two teams attended? what a load of tosh.

Williams just bought a KERS company. Are they happy with this?

maybe the kers system will come from williams?

    -

As for the Ted News piece, nice to hear a bit of honesty. I have to admit with every press conference and interview, I dislike Hamilton more and more.

    -

So with Flavio going againist McLaren, how much would Ferrari give Alonso or Piquet to run Hamilton off the road? If I was in Vegas I would start a pool of who is going to knock Hamilton out of the race. Starting odds: Alonso: 1-5, Kimi: 1-4, Piquet: 1-10.

Great! Loved it. It's the first time I have actually gone to England, Scotland, and Ireland as an adult and spent some time exploring. Loved: Southern Ireland, all of Scotland, the whiskey trail (I still don't know how I got 11 bottles of scotch through customs), Northumberland, Southwest England, central London, and the liberal drinking laws of England compared to the states. I went out two nights in London with a bunch of my American friends who work in London and according to my receipts, I drank 13 pints of beer in two nights.

The things that I didn't enjoy was the oblivious money making speed traps (which I have a feeling that AVIS is sending me a few tickets). Also, how is everyone in the country not wildly obese? I cannot believe how much Crisco and butter is in all of your restaurant cooking.

All and all great trip. If you know anyone who is willing to hire an American designer/illustrator/photographer/writer/editor/web administrator/ communication strategist/ lobbyist, let me know.

I flew into Edinburgh and spent the day. An absolutely beautiful city. Then went up to the Spey River valley and went through a few distilleries; then went to Invertness. Drove over the Isle of Skye (jaw droppingly beautiful!) and spent the night in Portree and watched the Japanese Grand Prix with a few people at the hotel. Then went down to Sterling and explored Loch Lomond area. After which, went down to Melrose and crossed the boarder.

No insult the English on this site or my dead relatives in Ireland, but Scotland was by far the highlight of my trip.

I went there mainly to spend a day and a half hiking along Hadrian's Wall and the nation forest. Nice area, reminds me of a lot warmer version of central Alaska with hilly barren terrian, pockets of forests, and stoney ground.

We didn't get up to Holy Island. I made a steadfast rule of only one castle/church a day for the group of friends I was with. By this point, I was castled out.

I made it through alive, no slips while on stage although I nearly fell over just before. No sadly we didn't win :( we are all a little gutted tbh. Although we were leading up until the last round (house song) where we lost 6 points to our main rival because the judge was old fashioned and didn't like our bright costumes, he preferred the smart black and white most other houses were wearing. We argue that they should have been listening to the music, it being a house music competition and all.
