The post-China race podcast in which we discuss all the track happenings, including Hamilton's flawless performance, and the Ferrari switch. We also delve into the mysteries of the FIA, once again.
Intro
It was just a shout out or two on Radio 5live, I'm not moonlighting really.
Good Week / Bad Week
A good week for drivers with Force India's confirmations, and Ferrari's young programme. A bad week for us as we have to contemplate yet another feeder series.
News and Views
France have pulled out of the calendar as well, but it doesn't look like Canada will be returning, and what timely news alongside the Abu Dhabi complex. There just aren't enough pages. Also, we debate the standard engine tender.
Qualifying
Hamilton was super fast, Webber was super smokey, Coulthard was super grumpy, and BMW were super slow.
The Race
Ted News! Plus more about Hamilton's flawless performance, the Ferrari "overtake", and why do Renault think they are now best friends forever with the Italian team? Also Trulli vs Bourdais and Kovalainen's tough day, plus a Fantasy Racers update.
Feedback
One particular email giving us an update on how good Mark Webber really is at karting, plus asking for your feedback on the Fantasy Racers competition.

Remember when I said 29 minutes.
:D

hush you. I've only done 2. Close battle for the title there as well :D
Can we expect the Podpanel thing to be out tonight, if not, then I'll go to bed.
How did Christine get 41 minutes of material out of that?
how rude!
;)
I'd consider it excellent editing and presenting of the show.
I've got to get a free mug for that.
Either that or they put the podpanel in with it.
podpanel will be ready tomorrow, methinks. so feel free to sleep, although this show is worth a listen too.
Cheers for that.
And I know this show is worth a listen, otherwise I wouldn't have downloaded it :D
although technically you've already heard it once.

ITV are asking us to send our questions to Ted K.
Do you think they'd let us ask him to come and work for us??
lol it's always worth a try ;)
If we all send in the same question, maybe Ted's curiosity will get the better of him and he will!?
he'd make a great panel show host.
You could be a bit more generic and ask him his views on sites like for example sidepodcast
I am amazed with everything that went on last night there was enough recorded to make a 40 minute show. But the show sounded really good and nothing in it could have been cut. Grea editing to make what actually happened sound that good.
live was quite terrible wasn't it? my only objection after listening back, was the pace was a little speedy, mostly because we were filled with panic.
it wasn't the worlds most chilled-out podcast. however, we were keeping it real.
What about being "down wit da kidz"?
It was fast. So not only did you get 40 minutes from it you got 40 fast minutes.
that may be pushing it.
i am confused... is this james allen's blog:
http://allenon...10/11/friday-in-fuji/
the james allen? i guess the comments are heavily moderated.
And as said on Identi.ca, who on earth are the post authors? speedmerchant and luca? Doesn't sound very James Allen to me! Luca has a nice fabrics business though. :D
i found the url mentioned at the base of his latest itv column:
http://www.itv...s_Allen&id=44357
i know nothing more :)
Maybe this is the future of Allen; he's going online. Well, he ain't gettin' no job at the Beeb, is he!
janitor?
Maybe, just maybe, Bernie has hired Allen to infiltrate the online world of Formula One blogging. He's scoping out the territory, sussing out the movers and shakers, and reporting to Mr E in shady bars (and Mr M in seedy bars), reporting the comings and goings of the F1-blogosphere.
Ron Dennis on maclaren.com says that Kovie had:
"mismatched" front tyres fitted for his first stint, then he had the puncture in the second and loss of air pressure...
I wonder what mismatched tyres means - different tyre pressure perhaps?
I have on old bike pump I could lend them
Could explain not the best qualifying as well.
michael
- if its a maclaren it must be good
- did you ever do a history of this team?
Heikki's qualy is explained by a ton more fuel on board given that Macca had a huge track advantage....
Just too much which affected the balance....
Heikki must be totally mad that his strategy is always a mile away from Lewis's optimal one....
Me, you haven't accidently contacted James Allen instead of Ted Kravitz have you?
To be fair me (as yorkshire F1) didnt know you could pick more than 2 drivers in Fantasy F1 lol :|
Ted Kravitz cant do America accents for Toffee lol
Me neither :)
I gasped upon hearing in the podcast that the other-half was above me on Fantasy Racers! Thankfully she's not though as I'm in 24th place and she's 33rd. Hoorah my male pride is still intact! :-D
Rats. ;)
ooops.
phew. she was ahead for a couple of weeks though?
hmm, one race still to go.
I've kept a spreadsheet and said spreadsheet tells me she was in front of me between Hungary and Italy. Not that I'm taking this too seriously or anything!
I'll just have the same line-up as her going into Brazil and will remain above her in the league ;-)
right :D
nooo. that's totally unfair (although quite sneaky) :(
It's Schumacher-esque
Yay! I'm Mystic again :)
so, friday's standardised engine tender is out of the window already then?
http://www.aut...s/report.php/id/71638
"A raft of cost-cutting measures has been agreed between the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) in a landmark meeting in Geneva, it was announced in a joint statement on Tuesday."
a standard kers unit for 2010/11 would probably mean working on them for '09 is a waste of time right?
This is insane and it sounds like a stitch up. When was anything ever agreed this quickly in F1? The justification for KERS was that the F1 teams would develop it fast due to their natural competitiveness. Now they are going to have a standard KERS what is the point. Williams just bought a KERS company. Are they happy with this? Or are they hoping to get the contract to supply the grid? All we have as a result is push to pass which should be abhorrent to any race fan.
i love the bit at the end that says:
"One source added that the meeting had "historical" significance because it "was the first time the teams had enjoyed such unanimity" in their discussions over the sport's future direction."
yet only two people from two teams attended? what a load of tosh.
maybe the kers system will come from williams?
I think hearing your go at an American accent may be my favorite moment this year =)
Oh dear. The Lewis Hamilton one was bad, the Joss Stone one was better, but I don't know why I even tried!! :)
What comments? lol
If I had to put my finger on it, your American accent sounds like a drunken Western Texan.
-
As for the Ted News piece, nice to hear a bit of honesty. I have to admit with every press conference and interview, I dislike Hamilton more and more.
-
So with Flavio going againist McLaren, how much would Ferrari give Alonso or Piquet to run Hamilton off the road? If I was in Vegas I would start a pool of who is going to knock Hamilton out of the race. Starting odds: Alonso: 1-5, Kimi: 1-4, Piquet: 1-10.
hee hee, ahh that's too much :)
how was your holiday dan?
Great! Loved it. It's the first time I have actually gone to England, Scotland, and Ireland as an adult and spent some time exploring. Loved: Southern Ireland, all of Scotland, the whiskey trail (I still don't know how I got 11 bottles of scotch through customs), Northumberland, Southwest England, central London, and the liberal drinking laws of England compared to the states. I went out two nights in London with a bunch of my American friends who work in London and according to my receipts, I drank 13 pints of beer in two nights.
The things that I didn't enjoy was the oblivious money making speed traps (which I have a feeling that AVIS is sending me a few tickets). Also, how is everyone in the country not wildly obese? I cannot believe how much Crisco and butter is in all of your restaurant cooking.
All and all great trip. If you know anyone who is willing to hire an American designer/illustrator/photographer/writer/editor/web administrator/ communication strategist/ lobbyist, let me know.
Which parts of Scotland did you ge to Dan?
I flew into Edinburgh and spent the day. An absolutely beautiful city. Then went up to the Spey River valley and went through a few distilleries; then went to Invertness. Drove over the Isle of Skye (jaw droppingly beautiful!) and spent the night in Portree and watched the Japanese Grand Prix with a few people at the hotel. Then went down to Sterling and explored Loch Lomond area. After which, went down to Melrose and crossed the boarder.
No insult the English on this site or my dead relatives in Ireland, but Scotland was by far the highlight of my trip.
Glad you enjoyed your trip, Dan. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to recruit anyone at the moment :(
stuart... what is that man doing on the cover of your magazine?
mind you, that's almost a smile.
that is a smile on page 16...
okay, i'll stop live commenting the reading of a magazine now.
hey, there's someone in here with sillier glasses than button.
Button doesn't have silly glasses. Their cool :D well i like them :)
the pink ones?
anyhow, jacques are worse. so much worse.
Looks like you managed to see a fair bit of the country Dan. Glad you enjoyed it. You are right though it is soooooooo much better than England.
Where about did you go in Northumberland. Without asking I'm betting money on you going to Holy Island.
I went there mainly to spend a day and a half hiking along Hadrian's Wall and the nation forest. Nice area, reminds me of a lot warmer version of central Alaska with hilly barren terrian, pockets of forests, and stoney ground.
We didn't get up to Holy Island. I made a steadfast rule of only one castle/church a day for the group of friends I was with. By this point, I was castled out.
Not to ask a possibly stupid question, but you are talking about F1 Racing Magazine correct?
yeah, there's someone on the cover who, quite honestly isn't front page material any more. well, at least in my opinion :)
BTW me, I did a little work on Christine's crushes page on the wiki, enjoy.
quality.
you guys are too funny :D
I read this comment this morning and thought Lewis must be on the cover. But it is not Lewis it's him. Anyone would have been better than him. Stuart doing Kate Bush would be preferable to him on the cover. Villeneuve would have been better. I cannot imagine the thought process that ended up with him on the cover.
ugh, i'd forgotten :(
I'm scared to ask, but who is on the front?
I will give you a subtle clue. The cover is a load of cobblers.
Don't give me any darn clues, just tell me. Now.
Ah, I only just got it. :D
What do cobblers make?
Silverstone?
the white ones....he has pink sun glasses? O.o
i think the pink ones followed the white ones.
Nice to see Lou commentating. I assume this means your legs are still in working order. Did you win?
Has identica died? I can't get it to load either on its own or through twirl
weren't they red?
I made it through alive, no slips while on stage although I nearly fell over just before. No sadly we didn't win :( we are all a little gutted tbh. Although we were leading up until the last round (house song) where we lost 6 points to our main rival because the judge was old fashioned and didn't like our bright costumes, he preferred the smart black and white most other houses were wearing. We argue that they should have been listening to the music, it being a house music competition and all.
i can't get on it on my laptop, but can on our desktop comp...
Jacques should be on the cover, just for me. :D
Enjoyed the podcast as per usual. And Ted was wonderful, but when isn't he.
Well if the FIA had their way Michael could still be in with a chance at world champion this year. So I think the cover is appropriate :)
