Free Practice 1 and 2 took place today at the Shanghai International Circuit and Hamilton had the edge. However, it looks like it will be a real battle. Find out all the happened in today's F1 Digest.

Free Practice 1

Hamilton led the way from the Ferrari boys, although the Free Practice session played out as they always do. An installation lap, a pause in the action, and then hard tyres all the way.

Free Practice 2

Once more McLaren took the lead, although not for the want of the Renaults trying. Alonso found some last minute speed to see off his team mate for second place. Oh, and Bourdais got stuck in the gravel.

Conclusions

Quite a few of the teams seem to think this track is not suited to their car at all, and even those who are feeling relatively comfortable say they will be studying the data long and hard overnight to try and increase their speed. Looks like this weekend means a lot to everyone.

kimi must be nuts if he thinks he saw loads of fans. unless he thinks f1 fans regularly spell the words EXPO in the grandstands?

here's a conspiracy theory for ya. did flav specifically ask piquet to drive through that gravel trap in order to ignite further recollections of 2007, or maybe to show that his rookie driver can get in and out of that trap all by himself?

Just checking the weather for FP3 and qualifying later, looks like we've got another dry day of running for Saturday, but autosport.com, weather.com and bbc.co.uk/weather all have rain predicted for shanghai in varying degrees on Sunday.

    Autosport - showers
    Weather.com - Scattered thunderstorms
    BBC.co.uk/weather - heavy rain

I think we can expect some rain for the race. Perfect for my wet weather FR team :D

so... quiet fp3, predictable qualifying and a spectacular race?

i think i can live with that :)

If my wet weather team fills the first 4 places, and Hamilton wins the WC on sunday, I will quite literally explode with happiness. :D

also might hear about whether I become a lucky son of a gun in the form of a christmas temp at GAME over the weekend. I just want it to be the phonecall, which means i've got it, rather than the letter, which means i haven't. :P

that's weird. it's possible to link to weather.com pages, but only if you delete the http :// first. wordpress then adds that back in for you.

i cannot begin to explain how that works?

Regarding the Kubica / cooling fan incident in the pit lane: I'm pretty sure the BMW mechanic crossed the white line when he got rid of the fan... If so, they're gonna be in trouble...

Good luck. :D Assuming it's one of the Norwich ones - St Stephens or Orford Place? ;)

Could give me someone else to heckle next time I'm in Norwich. :D Have fun. ;)

I would be most disapointed in him if he is.
