Ahhhhhhhhh!

Here goes then, our very first attempt at a live Sidepodcast weekly audio show. It's all a bit new and scary, and we've spent most of the morning fiddling with wires and saying "Testing, 1-2" a lot.

However, things seem to be working, and amazingly it looks like we're going to be on time. You're very welcome to join us, get involved, have your say. We'll be checking the comments all the time for anyone who's out there, and it should be much more interactive than ever before.

The Live Commenting page has been tweaked slightly, but it's not perfect yet. I'm sure the man will let you know what he's done to it as we get going, and if you've got any suggestions we'd love to hear them. We're struggling to get the format to suit both live commenting and live streaming, so we're happy to hear your thoughts. Visit the page now if you want to join in the fun and you won't have to refresh the page as you comment.

Yes, but that would require a flat-panel computer screen at teh very least and that would break the funding to Christine's Monaco Race dream-hopes. Not that there was not any funding in that cookie jar but I am sure that where all of Chrisitne's extra money goes.

am thinking, we could also do the enhanced part of the show live that way too. at the moment we have no means of displaying photos sent in, back on to the live stream, but they could be beamed onto the wall too.

we don't own a projector of course, and we'd also be adding one more fan to an already noisy environment... food for thought though.

Re: Miro - it was the fact that you guys introduced a torrent stream that made me take a second look at it. Like Christine, I'd installed the program some time ago but found that it was very unstable.

One of the things I'm liking most about Miro is that it seems excellent for organising media. As with iTunes, you can automatically delete files after so many days. This is particularly useful for me; someone who's spent the afternoon clearing off gigabytes worth of audio and video files that were scattered randomly around my hard drive.

If we can continue with this idea, it might not be a good idea to dress Christine up in a red shirt if this "hook the projector up to the web cam" idea works.

very interesting, had not heard of this before. the only issue might be this line:

"CamTwist can be quite resource intensive, so the more CPU processing power, the better."

more power normally means more fan noise, which we're trying to avoid, but i'll download it and see what we can do. cheers.

hmmm. it'll look odd for the rest of the time though.

having played around with it a bit i think you're probably right. how annoying.

Surely now that you've got all of that equipment in the "studio" you can't use that room for anything else now though.

    Remove the picutre?

Yes all of this is leading up to the inevitable conclusion that you really need a projector there... :)

It's just affording that and hiring Ted next year that's going to be the problem.

we'll have to do a behind the scenes post about how everything is setup (at least once we've sorted it).

everything packs away nicely though and the machines that record the show are the same ones we blog with and the same ones we create video with etc.

having a picture hanging on the wall at a 30 degree angle might be a bit annoying after a week or so :)

Have three picture hooks. Two level and one at an angle and move the picture before and after each show.

It is better than having Christine lean backwards at a 30 degree angle.... :P

This might only happen if she's been drinking something other than Red Bull!

you could always crop the photo so it's round and then get it blown up. With Photobox (which is who i use) and Jessops i think, you can adjust the photo so that it fits best on the paper.... so in theory you could end up with a round photo with a white border. Then all you need to do it cut it out :P

I apologise if that made no sense. I'm bad at describing things.

that made perfect sense lou, however the wall is magnolia (or similar) :(

colour matching that against a jessops print might not be much fun.

i have had another idea on-par with steven's earlier genius... why not just get a floor-to-ceiling print? that way the picture will bend along with the lens distortion.

pricey? yes. genius? i think so :)

ah yes, i can imagine that would take a while.

lol. That's a great idea. :D Not cheap as you say, but I imagine much cheaper than a projecter :) However I'm not sure I know of anywhere that would do that large a print.... there probably is somewhere....

    You could:

    1) Open a drawing program
    2) Set the canvas width and height to the desired diameter of the poster
    3) Draw a circle in the middle (use the circle tool to avoid unnecessary hair-pulling antics)
    4) Insert whatever picture you wish (by copying-and-pasting an image you like - after checking copyright - or by drawing freehand)
    5) Print (you will almost certainly need several pages)
    6) Use the circle edge as a template for cutting poster out with scissors
    7) Use sticky tape behind the A4 pages to reassemble desired image
    8) Use preferred method of affixing poster to wall
