Ahhhhhhhhh!

Here goes then, our very first attempt at a live Sidepodcast weekly audio show. It's all a bit new and scary, and we've spent most of the morning fiddling with wires and saying "Testing, 1-2" a lot.
However, things seem to be working, and amazingly it looks like we're going to be on time. You're very welcome to join us, get involved, have your say. We'll be checking the comments all the time for anyone who's out there, and it should be much more interactive than ever before.
The Live Commenting page has been tweaked slightly, but it's not perfect yet. I'm sure the man will let you know what he's done to it as we get going, and if you've got any suggestions we'd love to hear them. We're struggling to get the format to suit both live commenting and live streaming, so we're happy to hear your thoughts. Visit the page now if you want to join in the fun and you won't have to refresh the page as you comment.

Ahhhhhhhhh!
Is not that the name of the castle where the Holy Grail supposed to be, at least according to the Monty Python movie?
Is this thing on? ;)
hehe :)
lo peeps. minor issue with live commenting on IE7. reload and all should be well now (coulda done without that today!)
Yay! I made it! Liking the new commenting... thing.
Yes very swish
"not broadcasting"? have you started yet or not because that's what i'm getting
Wow I love the changes that have been made to the live commenting, live.... thing. 'me' have you had any sleep recently? :P
yay it worked :D
just testing the live commenting live thing
It works too! Is this really sidepodcast?
:D
The thing is not working. Getting Error on page. Think it has to do with numbers being in my email address.
I too am getting "Not broadcasting"
So I'm guessing they aren't... :)
Same
have you guys started yet?
Checking
couple of seconds.
the IE bug put us back 10 mins.
Fixed.
lol same.
I think they haven't started yet.
Ahh, ok
Alex. try restarting your page.
Also "me" (a very minor thing) you need to run the smiley code after the code that moves you to the bottom because that's putting us out of line slightly.
no problem :) thank you for fixing the IE thing :D
this is gonna transform our live commenting session on gp weekends :D
Would not Monty be a wonderful name for a pet python?
Seconded!
Hello, everyone! I'm getting "Not Broadcasting", but judging by the comments, that's because Sidepodcast is... ...er... ...not broadcasting yet.
It sure would. Now I just need a python...
Thirded!
Any thirds?
Hey Alianora :)
Thirded :D
Hello Alianora!
alright, forthed :D
Alianora La Canta:
Thanks, Murray!
hey ali :P
Any minute now...
Hi Scott :)
Greetings Earthlings!
Instead of the usual who will be the first to spin off. Should we have a guess at the first to fluff a line? or is that mean ;)
:D
THERE IT IS! :D
We are live!
Here or at the race?
Hello :D
HI GUYS! :D
Hi guys!
*waves* :D
Hi Christine and Me! :-) Looking forward to the show.
Hi!
Hey!
Hi *waves back*
:D I'm good.
Cool!
Hi guys. Looking forward o an intersting show
Nice top - and nice poster!
christine is the stig! :P I knew it! :D
nice photo on the wall :D
Yes it sounds good!
sounds great! :D
Yes it sounds good :)
The sound is good
No distortion, good treble and decent bass.
Sounds fine
ahahaha :D lol brilliant!
Good choice of music - thank you Jordan ;)
Awesome! So your under pressure!
Live is confusing
"Keeping Ourselves Amused?"
go go go! :D
Stuff, drivers and stuff? How can you tell it's the summer break? *waves*
you're confusing everyone by the looks of it :P
Here comes Queen and Bowie!
I thought "me" was the stig. Now I am confused....
good point jordan :P
Live is very confusing
Maybe they're both the Stig and they share the role out to make sure there's time for
"It all goes wrong from here..."
Whart dead air!
Southern Hemi? Queen moment there.
yay! :D good new for Honda! woo! :P
That's a Dodge, isn't it :P
:D I thought multiple windtunnels were meant to be banned...
"The new Southern Hemi" :P
There are no time zones based on souhtern hemi.
time zones are in a east to west direction.,
There's lots of product placement here... ING, Intel, Red Bull.. Has Sidepodcast sold out? :P
Product placement at sidepodcast?
Red Bull
Lewis needs my backpack! I'd like to see any would-be their try to make off with my (>30kg) bag without pulling several tendons out of their sockets...
Is that the big black slab from 2001 behind Christine?
Hey guys, thought I'd drop by and say a hello while checking out what you're up to. Looks great. re. Southern Hemi - it's just that their seasons are the other way round, I believe.
everyone in my family has been to monaco except me and it's not fair! :P
I'd go to spa as well
Yeah Ollie.. North / south dictates which season you're in, while east / west dictates your time zone.
Very true about the arguing about who goes where. I could see very few people going to Hungary if they had the choice, so that they get their summer holiday back!
Dead air.
What have I done now?
"The big black slab is a duvet"... ...classy duvet!
Go for it.
I meant the film 2001... sorry.
The other thing is... ...will McLaren rotate the drivers?
Maybe Ron Dennis just wants to rotate himself with Whitmarsh... After all, he was meant to be retiring before this Stepneygate nonsense kicked off.
It didn't take long for Rob Smedley to get a mention....again
2001: A space odessey :P
2001: A Space Odessy, presumably.
The monolith?
The monolith that's the thing!
He doesn't have different expressions, they're all the same :P
Does that make Chrisitne the Space Child?
hahaha!
I'm not sure many people would be able to tell the difference between the "happy" and "bemused" Kimi expression if the face is only the size of a stamp...
Depressing stamps?
Y key :)
That would be a good way to start teh show, use the theme to 2001!
2001: A Space Oddessy is Stanley Kubrick's most famous film. It's a space opera.
Yeah! It would be awesome!
"Winning didn't change anything"
Not even the amount of space on Heikki Kovalainen's mantlepiece or the amount of time it takes for him to dust his living room?
Thus spake Zapp... something...
HAHA!
They give copies out, though!
They make copies, I thought, and give those to the drivers.
McLaren will make copies of any trophy a driver wins
And of course, Martin Brundle also has a trophy he sneaked out from under Ron's nose at some point...
They let DC (or rather his then girlfriend) have one. :) I think it was after his plan crash.
Because Mika's all got melted innit?
Left turn?
To get from Hamilton to Webber go backwards
Hamilton to Webber, make a left at Heidfeld
lol at Alex. True.
Mika's copies all got melted. At that point, Ron's position on trophies suddenly looked very wise.
I wonder if Mika could request all his trophies be erm, re-made? Sucks for him.
He can't fire Coulthard if Red Bull finishes fifth...
I think Ron should also look after all drivers tortoises too...
There was a theory at one time that DC would replace Horner
I think Ron has already said he'll help get Mika new copies of the trophies. Can't remember where he said that, though.
Horner reminds me of Richards. Fairly down to earth and happy to speak to the media. He rarely sounds like he's reading from a script, unlike Domincali.
Domenicali
it's pronounced dom-en-i-car-li
DC was on the MotoGP today and said he's speaking to the BBC for commentating next year, but he didn't sound very certain about it.
I think Steven meant there was, at one point, a rumour about DC replacing Horner. I think it was back in 2005.
yay! well done, have an imaginary cookie :P
I am having real Danish Cookies
Jackie Stewart was a great team boss! :D
DC's quite good with business though - he co-owns a hotel in Monaco, or did at least.
JYS was okay as a team boss.
would DC want to be a team boss though? what with his son due at the end of the season.
True!
Worked for jack brabham :P
DC was on the MotoGP today and said he’s speaking to the BBC for commentating next year, but he didn’t sound very certain about it.
I'm probably in the minority here, but please no :(
I'd rather have Anthony Davidson. Sure he sounded like a hyper chpmunk when Jenson won, but he's fun :P
How about Chris Amon?
ran his team AND drove the car.
And if me says, "the best drivers don't make good team bosses"... perhaps as DC wasn't the best driver...
Maybe DC could take over the "Track Insight" stuff - do testing and use part of it to do pieces the BBC can use for explaining how the cars work and what they're like to drive.
Yeah, Stewart could have got bad, but Jaguar's problems were as a result of the endless changes at the top of the team and Ford's poor management..
jaguar were the ones who made it worse in the first place, stewart won a race in 1999, when did jaguar ever acheive anything like that!
Chris Amon the worst race drivres make the worst team bosses.
Good point Ali, Brundle's getting on a bit. How long can he keep driving the cars.
Yeah I'd definitely rather it was Anthony Davidson. But DC might be a good analyst (Blundell type) rather than a commentator I think.
"sidepodcast outtakes" :P
The Fittipaldis' team boss tenure was not spectacular either. So the worst team owners are combinations of the best AND worst drivers...
No. The foruth wall has bursted into the studio.
I would have though Ant may be still be wanting to race.
More DC? Damn.
Good point Ali, Brundle’s getting on a bit. How long can he keep driving the cars. {Ollie - 4 comments ago}
I don't know. He tries to keep fit but he does have time against him...
you usually found in the turbo era drivers running out of fuel due to using the boost too much
Worse would be Monaco without refuelling.
Brundle will be 50 next year (and that makes me feel reeealy old!)
wouldn't be with added rain :P
Hungary, if it had no pit stops, would probably have slightly more overtaking because there'd be more incentive. No amount of incentive would make Monaco overtakable...
Like that sample :)
TED NEWS!
Salo did the whole no-pitting thing at Monaco 97.
And yay Ted!
German GP would have been rubbish if Hamilton didn't have to refuel.
article in f1 racing says that "the high ambient temperatures, 30c, in hungary caused fuel to escape."
I think that pitting really shows the casual fans that it is a Team Sport not just one man out doing his thing.
that's a theory ^
OK, who's organising the Awnings For Hungary Fund?
I really think that Sidepodcast need to hire Ted for next year.
But presumably if fuelling was banned, tyre changes would still be allowed so you'd still get that team element.
HONDA!
No!
NO! Not Vanilla Ice!?!
are you going to be mean about honda?
Be mean to Honda. I was objecting Vanialla Ice.
F1 racing has a letter in the letters section about a street called rubens close :P
my letter about kimi's in there too, to remind anyone :P
One note? Your version sounded more different to the original tune than that...
Just thinking about Christine's shirt (sorry that sounds weird) maybe we should sell T-Shirts called "I am me" for the Ted Fighting Fund!
Na, "Under Pressure" is to cool to steal from....
:D An F1 car powered by a lawnmower? Now that is amusing...
It also lets them get round the testing restrictions, since it's not an F1 engine and therefore not bound by the 30km rule.
A real F1 engine would overheat and blow to bits if it just went round and round in a car park
Good point Alianora!
sneaky stuff from honda :P
I always thought they just rolled the car into the box and then pushed it away.
Typo - that should be 30,000km, not 30km!
I have seen video in the past of teams practising pit stops with a couple of mechanics pushing the car into the pit box
That would work as well, Ollie, but if they're going to have it nipping in and out of bushes and car park spaces, the testing restrictions have to be considered...
Bic - More product placement
Communication failure? I'm glad it's not just me who suffers from it at times...
Would not originally, they would use a mock-up of the car to prastice pit stips until the pit crew can get it under say 12 seconds?
bugatti can make the engine in the veyron last 20 years, so why can't the f1 teams?
Cosworth. You can add Asiatech.
Asiatech couldn't cope with restrictions on engines either (but that wasn't helped by their weird approach to F1 in the first place!)
Prost?
minardi and arrows
Arrows. Between 2000 and 2002.
Asiatech supplied prost, they were to Peugeot as Mechacrome is to Renault
That was the engine supplier...
they tried to run an f1 team but it never went up so they just did engines
You could call that series "Max's Misery"
asiatech also supplied arrows and minardi
Well, you are concentrating on recording an audio item. It's only fair that sometimes other people end up helping with the research side.
That won't be a problem. In theory, the engines shouldn't be improving during this freeze, but they patently are and nobody's getting punished for it!
don't diss force india! i'm racing with them in real life batracer :P
that was to steven btw
The Stephen Roy show is going well ;)
I'm not comfortable with Force India dissing either (since I support them) but I have to admit that a no-testing rule wouldn't limit them half as much as it would Ferrari or McLaren...
If nobody where to disss Force India, no one would ever hear of Farce India.
Everyone says something sensible occasionally, Christine, don't feel too bad about agreeing with Max.
yeah, where's all our ones! :D
If you develop technology until there is no return you Max-imise the expense
That's not fair, Jordan. Force India sometimes does interesting stuff...
like poker games :P
Crashing or DNF'ing does not count, Ali.
Fight Fight ;)
Nice to know you are only using my commnet because there is no content
If you develop technology until there is no return you Max-imise the expense {Steven Roy - 3 comments ago}
Very true, Steven!
Quick lets leave some more feedback!
bit of a latin feel to that music :P
If you stop technology in F1 you get Formula Ford!
either that or hawaii :P
formula ford is good racing, my dad did it back in the late 80s
Crashing or DNF’ing does not count, Ali. {Jordan Allen - 8 comments ago}
Nearly coming 4th and beating other teams despite having the smallest budget should
The picture on the wall - I recognise it. Did you guys get it enlarged and printed?
F1 should have the best drivers, the best cars and the best racing.
And how many cars where in the race at that point?
going great so far, love it :)
live commenting is brilliant :D kudos to 'me' he has done a great job :)
Live comments is awesome! A bit hectic trying to listen to Sidepodcast and read the comments at the same time... I'm not good at multi-tasking!
It's good :)
What you need is to drag all the boxes around like the BBC homepage ;)
it is in a nice column as it is, just need to change the layout for race live commenting
E sharp is F!
F1 should have pay drivers and Japanese Drivers and it would be best to have Japanese Pay drivers.....
It works OK for me, since the only part of the video I can't see is the top of the room. All the interesting stuff is visible.
E# is indeed F, doctorvee.
Thank goodness for the lack of swearing :)
Me should zoom in on Chrisitne to get rid of the ING product placement.
It is a great photograph!
How about a Sidepodcast logo?
Or maybe something illustrative of the theme of the podcast?
A projector and the tablet thing?
The picture is fine on this size of video
Brought to you by the letter H?
Good filling!
£15 a week might add up!
It's cheap compared to some F1 piccies. But you could get round it by using several bits of A4 paper, drawing/printing the design you want on them and using sticky tape behind the picture.
doing all that would be the entire sidepodcast budget :P
iti's cheaper from Jessops i think. :P
Listening, reading and writing is very complicated!
Whiteboard would be cool!
Yeah, that's a great idea Ollie. 'Me' could then introduce chalkboard sessions.
I did think I got my calendar wrong when the Sidepodcast Valencia preview appeared so early!
What about projecting an image?
hehe, same
Testing was postponed earlier in the year due to fog at Valencia, but that was in the winter.
the marshalls and divers have been practising for the event that a car goes into the water! just like old monaco! :P
There is a lot of concrete...
Sounds like my favourite BBC weather symbol -- hedging their bets! http://www.bbc...ls/fiveday_sym/17.gif
it's more montreal than monaco
What about the tunnelling effect of high buldings funnelling the wind down the gaps?
It's more like Long Beach was than Monaco
Good point!
3 is quite a few for F1
i have that issue in front of me :P
You'd want them to practice it though!
if it's windy the teams with the avril wing are gonna have fun. Well the teams with less experience running it will
and george lucas, who crashed
Very true, lou!
durban?
I might have to be stay at home on Friday just to watch Free Practice. Perhaps I'll be happy with the tube strike!
A1GP, China street circuit.
2006
The farce was with George!
There might be a lot of aerial shots around the back section. During the Spanish F3, they couldn't find any suitable places to mount cameras, so used overhead shots a lot. At some points during the race, they did attempt to film through the catch fenching, which looked a bit rubbish.
Video just froze and died
frankie muniz is his name and he does either formula atlantic or star mazda
The video still works for me.
Video fine here.
No video freeze from me!
Do not reset.
me says he's looking into it, Steven.
It came back after a minute or 2
Mine started buffering a bit, but now it's okay, though presumably a bit behind 'live' now.
formula mazda, you just said it :P
Do not adjust your set!
Spec touring car series with Mazdas in it.
basically
Isn't Formula Mazda like the american equivalent of F3 or something?
No I was wrong, Alianora's probably right
i think its kind of like formula palmer audi but without the boost buttons
That happened for me earlier
Mazda Mx-6's? in Formula Mazda?
Is Christine saying Formula 1 cars aren't proper cars?
http://www.starmazda.com/
Looks like single-seaters.
Star Mazda cars look like Formula Renaults
Yes - Spy Kids was the name of the film. Not the most imaginative one ever!
Some film executives are just really predictable...
my dad has the same shirt
I thought James Bond would be afilm about an Investment banker.
Snakes on a plane
It was canada.
"I am me" t-shirts!
I remember there being a joke at the time "Snakes on a Plane" came out, that the sequel should be "Snakes in a Library".
zzzzzzzzzz
Lightning in Sidepodcast towers?
I think Christine just swore!!!
wahey!
Thats crying out for some terrible pun.
Never mind, I can't throw stuff and hit targets either.
She said "Jesus" when Me flashed her!
;)
I can't believe Me was flashing - that's very rude
That did not sound right.
greedy!
Me did what now? Good job he's off-camera!
haha
We don't even know that me is dressed! That's what worries me (about me)
Aargh no, am I about to endure the sound of my own voice? :S
Live Vee!
yes you are!
Best to stay anon, then
yeah, my letter! i wrote about kimi's boredom in f1 racing!
Very sensible thinking, doctorvee. But it was 5 spins in Silverstone for Massa (2 others were Raikkonen's!)
Good comments, vee.
Thanks Ollie and Alianora :-)
Rob Smedley - World Driver Champion 2008 - :D
Good point. If Massa's working hard in the cockpit, how hard is Smedders working in the background!?
Kov does put in the effort until Ron tells him to park it.
Ron doesn't tell Heikki to park it, otherwise he'd have a much higher DNF rate than he does...
I don't think anyone tells Heikki what to do - I think Heikki's clever enough to work some things out on his own and makes a team decision.
Rob was a good race engineer at Jordan and he's still a good race engineer now.
doctorvee's comments support my f1 racing e-mail exactly :P
Am I the only person who doesn't like Smedley?
And when I say "clever", I mean "clever for the team".
Well, park it so that Ham can go by at least.
Interesting to hear what Mr Nobody says.
Scott, I'll have to read your letter after this Sidepodcast has finished!
it's in this month's f1 racing :)
have a look in the letters section, its down the bottom :P
Middle column.
That hurt my ears!
That one always scares me a little bit when I'm walking down the street or something and it comes on!
What?!?
We've only just got HD for any programming in the UK, let alone F1...
It helps that the BBC has two terrestrial channels and three/six "Red Button" sub-channels in Freeview.
Eurosport show the WTCC in high definition.
Scott I was wondering what your thoughts on Kimi are. Is there a place that I can read them that's been published recently?
Gary Anderson worked as a senior race engineer (and sometimes designer or technical director) at Jordan (and two years at Stewart/Jaguar).
I've seen that ESPN shows nascar and indycar in HD
The Beeb have more red button channels on FreeSat as well, so it might be worth getting FreeSat for the start of next season because hopefully they'll utilise it for F1.
I'll try and post a pic on facebook, or do a topic about it on facebook too. :)
Christine and Me should do the BBC magazine show. That's what this is isn't it?
Gary went to Stewart just before Belgium 1998 and was sacked by its successor, Jaguar, in mid-2000. After nearly joining Arrows, he went back to Jordan at the start of 2002.
This sequencing sounds complicated.
only probably much better :P
I'm still here! :D
I love it, planning on the fly.
1 hour and 26 minutes.
yeah me too, i like it :)
I'm still here. I had a telephone call for a bit.
4am? Now that's early!
So I missed the very loud thing. What was the loud thing?
Breakfast over 3 hours after waking up!...
Good to hear the marshalls take training seriously.
I have to get up at 5am every day :(
Glad to hear Keith enjoyed himself :)
Do they put extra staff on Druids anyway?
gomotorsport.net is really good. :D they had an infomation stall thing at the British motorshow and they were really helpful and answered all of my questions :D
I thought you had to do a couple of days training before you could marshall
You used to. Apparently not now.
Baptism of fire - what better way to learn than to do it.
haha
bless you
bless you :D
I like the second one better.
hahaha...
Bebo group? Did you know that Andy Stevenson's other half was one of the people who founded Bebo in the first place?
bless you!
Andy Stevenson?
I use bebo :)
Andy Stevenson is Force India's cheif mechanic.
i can give you some help if you wish
:)
I'm on Bebo, but nothing makes it good! :( Facebook is far better if you ask me.. Just joined the Sidepodcast group though. :D
We have a plane here too I think...
I worked at a company a couple of years ago and in the lab they had a CD permanently set up to play 'Another one bites the dust' every time some product failed testing.
It could be the next step after under pressure
facebook is better than bebo :P
Steven, now that's a nifty plan!
Waagh, being integrated? that sounds a bit scary!
I suggested it as a joke and they actually did it
yeah i actually agree lou, facebook is better to use.
hahah :)
Ah... Lovely comment :)
short but to the point
Excellent e-mail!
on the subject of the facebook group did you know sidepodcast is on of the first groups you come across when you search for formula 1 groups on facebook.
its always want want want with christine isnt it :P
RV! Good comment!
ooh that's low
Now that's a risky way of ending an e-mail...
Queen and Bowie!
complete the phrase
Great game answer!
It is chromatic scale
H would presumably be the A below whichever A was dominant...
Omnibus plural - Omnibi
:)
Oh no Me!
There it is!
Use "Merde".
Oops! That would be the grammatically correct morphological construction, but bus doesn't turn into bi either. You were right!
Sorry for the confusion...
ahahaha :D
I don't even know what that word means. :O
its all falling apart right at the end
The show has ended
So much under pressure that he didn't remember how to press under pressure
Under Pressure second version.
Omnibus - used to be a type of bus, but is now a collection of programmes on the same theme.
I think I have found the title 'I am not saying omnibi'
I think it is Omnibuses
Omnibus (English plural omnibuses)
get it right!
Thnat's from the wiki page though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omnibus
If bus is buses then ominibus is probably omnibuses
Oh no the live commenting has confused everything :)
Me idiot :(
No - I am an idiot, not "me"!
http://diction....com/browse/omnibuses
Interestingly on "Octopus": http://en.wiki...i/Octopus#Terminology
you recommend vuse to me and then say miro is better! waste of download space for me! :D
It was me...
It was in response to a bunch of other comments above that one which corrected my pluralisation of omnibus. When I realised how much extra work I'd made for you made me feel guilty.
That's me, me, not you, me. ;)
wow this me business is getting confusing :P
Everything is a source of confusion, here
ok, i'm going to try it now, so i can download btcc and wrc season reviews from [redacted] hopefully a bit faster :P
Steven spotted "I'm not saying Omnibi", if that helps.
Steven Roy found one i think
As it was Stephen Roy it really should be in!
I did suggest 'I am not saying omnibi' as a title
"The Live Show"?
I will not use "omnini".
"The Steven Roy Show"
I'm not going to live this one down, am I?
"Under Pressure" :P
Good thinking Jordan :)
is there anyway of getting the miro download onto my ipod as a podcast?
Thanks Scott!.
Under Pressure is perfect
"On The (Omni)buses". You're probably too young to remember that TV show though.
"And contributed a lot"
Including some of the shambles...
i should get something since steven roy's taken over the show :P
It's been quite entertaining but I don't think I could be bothered with sitting for over two hours every week to listen to Sidepodcast -- as much as I love the podcast!
I like that Ollie
You diidn't actually say it.
You have now!
Under Pressur and over-whelmed.
You have said it now
"There is no news"
That's good standing up from Christine!
Well, she has been standing for 1 hour and 43 minutes (possibly longer)...
oh just remembered, when can we do our interview? :)
"We must get more competent at this"
for the title!
Really good show guys.
Christine needs a stool
Is it me or did the wall wobble just then?
ok no problem, i'm free whenever, just give me a shout and i'll make sure i'm ready :)
hell yeah, i'll do live! i will try not to swear as well :P
Yay!!!!
Thank you very much for your generousity in sharing the experience :D
Why does the camera point upwards, kinda, showing lots of ceiling?
Fair enough, me. These things happen occasionally.
Cheap Special effect: Invert eh camera.
seconded
nice work guys, what are we likely to be talking about?
Ah, fair enough.
you can find the money for the LED lights from the swear box :P
The other advantage with pointing it at the ceiling is that Christine's head fits while I still have the message typing box.
Stuff!
"don't tell me we have to do the whole thing again"
would have been a good title
yeah go ahead! lol
I'd like you to ask Scott if he's ever had any letters published in any F1 magazines ;)
Q & A with Scott :P i look forward to it
Bye, Christine and me :)
Thanks guys! It's been good to watch the process. :)
bye! *waves* :D thank you that was great! :D
bye! I'll send a voicemail via my laptop so you can check the quality of my built-in mic.
Thanks Christe and 'me'. It was very entertaining
That was amazing. Once used the "panic" button once!
have you not been reading the comments earlier, i got one in f1 racing this month :P
Bye guys! I wouldn't have time to do that every week (if you ever do get up to that number). But it was a real blast!
One side effect is that the "Top Commenter" section is now ever-so-slightly skewed (as in, over 20% of my comments in the last month were provided in the last 2 hours).
HEHE
cheers all :)
christine has a show to edit now. any post podcast thoughts, ideas, complaints etc, please do let us know.
I guess if anyone has questions for Scott it would be best to e-mail them so that Scott has to answer them live. It would sound like a scripted show if he knew what was coming in advance and would probably be less fun for Scott.
wow i have really slipped down the top commenters thing haven't i...
502 comments on a live show. It didn't seem that many
oops!
agreed, sounds like a good plan.
you used to own that board lou.
Cheers me & Christine!
I don't know if you noticed in all the madness at the beginning of the show but it would be really cool if this could get fixed:
It's off by about a post now. The line height seems to be slightly higher for the images. I'm using Firefox on PC atm.
Not that I want to complain. It is awesome!
Comment numbers usually get skewed by live commenting on a race so this is like having a race with no Friday or Saturday
lol well there is a gp coming up next week so i stand a chance in climbing back up the board again :P
I may not be able to be in live commenting for the race this weekend so Lou you may well take my position...
can we get a drop.io screenshot pls? i’m not sure i’m seeing what your seeing. soz.
What looks like is happening is that it reloads the data, scrolls to the bottom so I can see the new post for a second. Then I can see the smileys turn from symbols into pictures which shifts everything down...
I will drop.io thouh...
Just realised something: How many comments do you guys get going to moderation, especially in the live-blogs that garner 1000+ responses? That must be a lot to go through?
I have dropped. It is actually 5 posts behind...
ahhh, am with ya.
will fix, no probs.
Seems to work fine in IE7. Which is interesting...
I didn't want to change midstream becuase of the video though.
Thanks Me!
just had a look and found 4, two of yours, one from scott d. and one from vee.
during races i monitor it the whole time, but i'm not yet on top of all that's going on and forgot to look. apologies for missing those 4 today.
No worries, I wasn't bothered about you checking, just curious about the amount. Seems manageable though - I had a thought of you having to go through hundreds!
nah, it's okay. during the past two hours approx 20 actual spam comments were caught, and we started with a clean sheet, so just two pages worth to scan.
Ah, that was fun.
I'm about to start editing, and thought you could join in this too, if you like. Usually, before I touch anything, we take a guess at how long the show will end up.
So, today, I'm gonna guess at 26 minutes.
I don't edit it to make it fit my guess or anything, it's just a bit of fun. As you guys were all party to how long it took to record, feel free to join in.
Me? What's your guess this week?
38 mins.
My guess is about 32 minutes :D
43 minutes.
29 minutes
Actually I might revise that. I reckon you might have only recorded 15 minutes of show!
34 minutes
@Alex: Surely doctorvee's voicemail was at least five minutes of audio!? :)
Considering that Me and Chrisitne have a basic idea of how much gets edited out I will split the differnece and say 29 minutes.
Those were the days :)
I am sticking with 29 minutes.
Right I have the solution to the problem of the picture on the wall...
I suggested earlier projecting a picture...
But surely you should have projecting live comments onto the wall!
That would really break the fourth wall! And allow Christine to see what was going on!
Gee, I forgot to make a wager to see if Chrisitne or Me would obtain a "pressure-related" injury while conducting a F1 podcast....
That might have been a first.
Nice T-shirt, by the way.
Yes, but that would require a flat-panel computer screen at teh very least and that would break the funding to Christine's Monaco Race dream-hopes. Not that there was not any funding in that cookie jar but I am sure that where all of Chrisitne's extra money goes.
I've just found this pretty cool f1 game.
http://www.ani...-1-simulator_324.html
The options are not in English but there is a translation just underneath. I think it's pretty good. Well it's keeping my occupied anyway... although I have the same problem I tend to have in all driving games - breaking :/
You can get projectors that take the image on the screen of your computer and project it on to a screen or white wall
Uh... Alex, are we still broadcasting cos we just had that EXACT conversation?
How freaky. Great minds, eh?
How funny!
Me did suggest that he didn't want it to end. Maybe he's broadcasting your whole life now!
that would be all kinds of awesome.
am thinking, we could also do the enhanced part of the show live that way too. at the moment we have no means of displaying photos sent in, back on to the live stream, but they could be beamed onto the wall too.
we don't own a projector of course, and we'd also be adding one more fan to an already noisy environment... food for thought though.
It would be a case of "F1 meets Star Trek" if you can hook up Scott's webcam to the projector.
No bonus points for Chrisitne saying "on screen" when me informs her that they have a connection.
oooh, nice one. we'll not have it ready in two weeks though :(
Perhpas it is just as well. Christine might start acting like William Shatner all the time.
Re: Miro - it was the fact that you guys introduced a torrent stream that made me take a second look at it. Like Christine, I'd installed the program some time ago but found that it was very unstable.
One of the things I'm liking most about Miro is that it seems excellent for organising media. As with iTunes, you can automatically delete files after so many days. This is particularly useful for me; someone who's spent the afternoon clearing off gigabytes worth of audio and video files that were scattered randomly around my hard drive.
You could stream Scott's webcam (picture-in-picture) and show user submitted photos/videos using CamTwist. And it could also be used for a chalkboard session. ;)
If we can continue with this idea, it might not be a good idea to dress Christine up in a red shirt if this "hook the projector up to the web cam" idea works.
very interesting, had not heard of this before. the only issue might be this line:
"CamTwist can be quite resource intensive, so the more CPU processing power, the better."
more power normally means more fan noise, which we're trying to avoid, but i'll download it and see what we can do. cheers.
Just wanted to point out that our efforts were wasted and he still can't say Domenicali. I thought we had a break through but apparently it was only temporary!!
Oh, the efforts are wasted?
the replay video is now live should anyone fancy watching again!
you know what's weird though? that picture on the wall is a straight as an arrow, but it looks completely wonky once the webcam lens distortion has gotten hold of it.
anyone have any ideas on how to make it look straight?
Get CHristine to stand at an angle to match it :)
Make the floor crooked to fix the problem with the picture.
You could always charge him 10p every time he says it wrong, even if he never learns how to say it at least you can raise the money for a projector or something :P
Get Christine to look at the picture on the webcam while you adjust it to make it look straight?
Remove the picutre?
It real answer is to lower teh camera but then it will not focus on Christine. Try having the picture at an angle.
hmmm. it'll look odd for the rest of the time though.
having played around with it a bit i think you're probably right. how annoying.
Surely now that you've got all of that equipment in the "studio" you can't use that room for anything else now though.
Yes all of this is leading up to the inevitable conclusion that you really need a projector there... :)
It's just affording that and hiring Ted next year that's going to be the problem.
we'll have to do a behind the scenes post about how everything is setup (at least once we've sorted it).
everything packs away nicely though and the machines that record the show are the same ones we blog with and the same ones we create video with etc.
having a picture hanging on the wall at a 30 degree angle might be a bit annoying after a week or so :)
Have three picture hooks. Two level and one at an angle and move the picture before and after each show.
It is better than having Christine lean backwards at a 30 degree angle.... :P
This might only happen if she's been drinking something other than Red Bull!
Why don't you get a round picture?
Genius :D
I know. I just can't help it.
erm, who prints round pictures?
Sorry, can't do practicalities when I am in genius mode. :)
Nice one Wally from Dilbert!!!
lol :D
you could always crop the photo so it's round and then get it blown up. With Photobox (which is who i use) and Jessops i think, you can adjust the photo so that it fits best on the paper.... so in theory you could end up with a round photo with a white border. Then all you need to do it cut it out :P
I apologise if that made no sense. I'm bad at describing things.
that made perfect sense lou, however the wall is magnolia (or similar) :(
colour matching that against a jessops print might not be much fun.
i have had another idea on-par with steven's earlier genius... why not just get a floor-to-ceiling print? that way the picture will bend along with the lens distortion.
pricey? yes. genius? i think so :)
ah yes, i can imagine that would take a while.
lol. That's a great idea. :D Not cheap as you say, but I imagine much cheaper than a projecter :) However I'm not sure I know of anywhere that would do that large a print.... there probably is somewhere....
damn, yeah that could be a tough one.
Ah now...
This sounds like a job for bespoke wallpaper:

I just randomly googled that company.
erm, who prints round pictures? {me - 9 comments ago}
You could:
1) Open a drawing program
2) Set the canvas width and height to the desired diameter of the poster
3) Draw a circle in the middle (use the circle tool to avoid unnecessary hair-pulling antics)
4) Insert whatever picture you wish (by copying-and-pasting an image you like - after checking copyright - or by drawing freehand)
5) Print (you will almost certainly need several pages)
6) Use the circle edge as a template for cutting poster out with scissors
7) Use sticky tape behind the A4 pages to reassemble desired image
8) Use preferred method of affixing poster to wall
